RUDY SARZO: 'I Owe My Career To SHARON, OZZY And RANDY RHOADS' - Aug. 2, 2012
Amelia Waters of GuitarWorld.com recently conducted an interview with legendary bassist Rudy Sarzo (OZZY OSBOURNE, QUIET RIOT, WHITESNAKE, DIO, ANIMETAL USA). An excerpt from the chat follows below.

GuitarWorld.com: You were good friends with Randy Rhoads [late OZZY OSBOURNE/QUIET RIOT guitarist], who died in 1982. Do you still see his influence today — and do you still think about him?

I think about him enough to have to sit down and write a book to answer the No. 1 question I get asked around the world: What was it like to play with Randy Rhoads? He's such an influential musician even today, 30 years after his passing. The way I put it is, in any post-Randy Rhoads guitar player, I always hear some kind of influence in their performance, even in their compositional style. Every time I receive an email or a message on Facebook or whatever, from kids, young guitar players, 10, 14 years old, they say, "Man, I discovered Randy Rhoads. He's my favorite guitar player." That really touches me because it's great to hear a new generation giving Randy the credit he deserves for being the well where most guitar players drink from. He has influenced generations and still does. So do I think of Randy every day? Of course I do. We all do. All of us that got to know him and perform with him. We have that common. We'll never lose that bond, that thread, our admiration toward Randy as a musician and as a friend.

GuitarWorld.com: A long time ago, you were feuding with Ozzy and a few other people. Is all that in the past now?

Yes, yes. Silly things happen. If you look at the big picture, you look more at what we have in common than what we have not. At the end of the day, that's what always takes precedence. As a matter of fact, I'll be doing a lot of interviews on behalf of Ozzy and Sharon for the latest release of the "Speak Of The Devil" DVD. Everything is really wonderful between the Osbournes and me, which is the way it should be. Because if you ask me what the most significant group in my career was, it has to be being a member of the Ozzy Osbourne band. They gave me my first break, they took a chance on me, a complete unknown, just based on Randy's recommendation. If it wasn't for them we would probably not be having this conversation. I owe my career to Sharon, Ozzy and Randy Rhoads.

Which album did Rudy Sarzo appear on? Please can you point out which Ozzy studio album he played on? How can Sharon erase him from an album he never appeared on? You dipshits need to get over your hatred of Sharon Osbourne, especially when you make statements about things you know nothing about.

"Rudy never played on a studio album by Ozzy, dumbass!"

Actually, Rudy played on the Speak of the Devil "live" album which really IS a studio album. The musical performance on the original live recordings for this album was so bad that the band went into the studio and re-recorded almost everything. Then they mixed the audience voices into it to make it sound "live". Back in the 1980s I read an old Tony Iommi interview where he revealed these facts.

So yes, technically, Rudy DID play on an Ozzy studio album. The problem with calling someone a "dumbass" is the possibility that you might make yourself look like a "dumbass" in the process!

Calling it a studio album is a comeplete stretch. Just because it had a lot of work done to it in the studio...something which is done with EVERY live album released, doesn't make it a studio album. I second the dumbass comments...

I don't think Rudy plays on Metal Health either, I believe that was Carlos's brother Tony Cavazo and Chuck Wright. If he did, he definitely doesn't play on the entire album.

Chuck Wright was the other guy who played on 'Metal Health'. I think he had already recorded the title track and "Don't Wanna Let You Go" prior to Rudy coming in to finish off of the rest of the album. At least half of the album Rudy recorded, if not more, and the rest was Chuck Wright.

I guess things are better now than when, on The Ozzman Cometh complilation cd, he was credited as Trudy Sarzo. Then again, Bob Daisley was Bob Daisy and Phil Soussan was Bill Susan. Just Sharon being a d-bag again.

Yeh it seems to me i became aware of who Rudy was through QUIET RIOT and he seemed to have a much larger profile as part of the growing L.A. metal scene as opposed to part of OZZY's backing band.

The first 2 QR albums are pretty damn classic and Rudy was part of something pretty damn cool .

I would much rather hear Rudy lay props on the QR years than continue to blow OZZY and Sharon.

There is a lesson in there , folks: Licking your own instrument is a career killer.

I always thought that Sharon and Ozzy owe THEIR careers to all the brilliant musicians that made them wealthy. Randy Rhoads, Jake E Lee, Zakk Wylde, Brad Gillis, Rudy Sarzo, Tony Iommi, Bob Daisley, Lee Kerslake, Geezer, etc, etc,...

Rudy didn't play on the first two Quiet Riot albums either, even though he is pictured on Quiet Riot 2, it was Kelli Garni that played all the bass.
