DEEP PURPLE, DREAM THEATER, Ex-RAINBOW Members Featured On SUPERTRAMP Tribute Album - Aug. 1, 2012
Some of the biggest names in rock contribute to a very special collection being released by Cleopatra Records on August 14, "Songs Of The Century: An All-Star Tribute To Supertramp". The record features members of ASIA, YES, KING CRIMSON, THE DOORS, DEEP PURPLE, XTC, TOTO, MR. MISTER, DREAM THEATER, NEKTAR, PORCUPINE TREE, GENTLE GIANT, RENAISSANCE, and RAINBOW.

SUPERTRAMP formed in 1970 in the U.K. While initially considered a progressive rock outfit, the incredible songwriting of Roger Hodgson and Rick Davies, coupled with Hodgson's unmistakable voice, moved the group into the pop and rock stratosphere by the 1980s. They amazingly straddled the line between expansive prog and commercial radio with unforgettable melodies, sing-along lyrics, a wizard-like Wurlizer, and the accent of the saxophone. They sold more than 60 million records, and hit singles from "Crime Of The Century", "Even In The Quietest Moments" and "Breakfast In America" are still played on radio stations, used in advertising, and etched in minds.

The recognizable and beloved SUPERTRAMP hit songs are reenvisioned on "Songs Of The Century", including "The Logical Song", "Take The Long Way Home", and "Goodbye Stranger", plus takes on gems like "Rudy" and "It's Raining Again". Producer Billy Sherwood enthuses, "There are some cool, unique moments like Annie Haslam singing 'Dreamer' and one of the other highlights for me is Rick Wakeman's piano playing on 'Crime Of The Century'. And Joe Lynn Turner singing 'Bloody Well Right' is just killer." Richard Page offers a delightful version of "Give A Little Bit" that exudes all the sweet charm of the original. The bonus track is a new piece from Chris Squire and Tony Kaye of YES.

The studio guest list also included John Wetton, Tony Levin, Robby Krieger, Colin Moulding, Steve Morse, Steve Porcaro, Roye Albrighton, Peter Banks, David Sancious, Gary Green, John Wesley, Geoff Downes, Jordan Rudess, Rod Argent, Mickey Thomas and more.

Explains Brian Perera, President of Cleopatra Records, "SUPERTRAMP is pretty inactive, and there's a fan base out there that is just hungry for more SUPERTRAMP, and nobody can give it to them".

Sherwood (the producer of the groundbreaking PINK FLOYD tribute albums "Back Against The Wall" and "Return To The Dark Side Of The Moon", as well as supergroup THE PROG COLLECTIVE) was very pleased to be asked to oversee the task of celebrating SUPERTRAMP. He says, "SUPERTRAMP is a great band. They've written so many hits that you can't even count them all."

The song "Give A Little Bit" from "Songs Of The Century: An All-Star Tribute To Supertramp" is available for streaming at this location.

I completely agree. I've worn out several copies of that album. Luckily the digital version doesn't wear out! It isn't metal, but there is something about it.. it's heavy in other ways.

To many of us who grew up in the 70's, Supertramp was definitely on the turntable next to UFO, Cheap Trick, Ted, Yes and the Priest. Supertramp is a band I wish would end their differences and give us one last go around. I miss Supertramp.

Why, O'Why, does Supertramp need a tribute album. Godawful syrupy lame ol' song and dance.

"Don't you look at my girlfriend...she's the only one I got..." I mean, come on, really??

Only cool thing they ever did was have tits on their album cover.

What an amazing tribute by so many legends!! Can't wait to hear the renditions of the songs Roger Hodgson composed, like Breakfast in America, Take the Long Way Home, Logical Song, Give A Little Bit, It's Raining Again, Dreamer & School. Saw him play all of these songs live in addition to his prog favorites like Hide In Your Shell & Child of Vision at his sold out show in California and he was spot-on, actually even better than the originals. His band is out-of-this-world...Aaron McDonald is an amazing sax player! Roger will be all over the US this summer & fall, there's a good chance he'll be playing near you.. dates are @ RogerHodgson.com.

Brian's comment in this article, that people are hungry for Supertramp, is absolutely fact. However, the part about having no way to get it is wrong. The heart and soul of Supertramp, Roger Hodgson, is absolutely still touring...and selling out everywhere he goes. He's just back in North America and selling out here after a very successful South American and European tour. No disrespect to this event, I'm sure it's outstanding and anyone who pays tribute to Supertramp is aces with me, however, there is no substitute for the real thing and that VERY REAL thing is Roger Hodgson and he is better than he ever was and wowing fans world-wide. He's the show to see!

Hello Mr. Brian Perera, maybe say "pretty inactive" is an expression a lot short. Maybe you must say " I don't know..." but internet is an excellent place for information. Roger Hodgson, the voice and soul of Supertramp is in tour now... recently finished his tour for South America and Europe, in the Breakfast in America Tour, and tomorrow begins the North America Tour. Roger Hodgson is the songrighter of a lot of Supertramp songs, and he is performing really well, he connects with people in a different way, with sensibility, with pasion... The Roger Hodgson's band has an incredible level, all of them are great musicians, the sound is perfect, really is a show in the top of the brilliant shows.
Roger conect, expand, walks you through your emotions, your story, laugh, cry, share with others, everything is magical, beautiful, and very high. Musically premium, without a doubt 5 stars. Roger Hodgson is the essence of Supertramp.
So friends, if you have any doubts, do not miss it, really worth a lot, is a unique experience. Enjoy!!

Mr. Brian Perera allow me to “refresh your search engine”, Roger Hodgson; the voice of Supertramp is currently on tour! As a loyal fan of Roger Hodgson (and there are many more of us at his sold out shows)he has been touring worldwide for years and has been “satisfying” that hunger all over the globe. I must say that although some may not recognize Roger's name but they sure know his voice and songs; my favourites areBreakfast in America, Take the Long Way Home, Give A Little Bit, Logical Song,It's Raining Again, Dreamer & School. Although your show may entertaining; do yourself a favour and satisfy your hunger and see “the real deal” Roger Hodgson!

COMMENT | Hey!! The Supertramp's voice is still active: ROGER HODGSON!!!

Hello, I would like to make some clarifications please.
Supertramp is theoretically inactive but one of the two founders of Supertramp, Roger Hodgson, is in active and doing lots of shows, and 7 songs on this tribute album were written by Roger Hodgson: ‘Breakfast In America’, ‘Take The Long Way Home’, ‘The Logical Song’, ‘Give A Little Bit’, ‘It’s Raining Again’, ‘Dreamer’, and ‘School’.
In fact, the songs of this band, Supertramp, were not composed in partnership (except the first album). Roger Hodgson wrote their own songs, and Rick Davies wrote his.

Another point that should be made clear: Roger Hodgson after leaving the band in 1983, began a solo career and had a break in 1987, but since 1996 he returned to recording solo albums and playing shows around the world! I live in Brasil, and since 1998, Roger Hodgson has come four times in my country; in fact, this year Roger played in 9 cities in Brasil!
Tomorrow Roger will continue his current tour of 2012 and will do 2 concerts in Canada and 12 concerts in the USA in less than 30 days!

So if you like this ‘’Supertramp tribute album’’, and these 7 hits (‘Breakfast In America’, ‘Take The Long Way Home’, ‘The Logical Song’, ‘Give A Little Bit’, ‘It’s Raining Again’, ‘Dreamer’, and ‘School’), go to the Roger Hodgson’s concerts, because all those 7 hits & much more are played and sung by him! Supertramp may have ended, but the man who brought fortune, recognition and hits for the band, in fact the popular voice of the band is still active and very well! By the way, Roger's voice is still better than before and his band is also fantastic.
So friends, do not waste your time, see the schedule below, and go to the Hodgson’s concerts:

August 3: Vancouver, BC, Canada
August 4: Vancouver, BC, Canada
August 5: Park City, UT, USA
August 9: Snoqualmie, WA, USA
August 10: Portland, OR, USA
August 11: Brooks, CA, USA
August 12: Saratoga, CA, USA
August 16: Hampton Beach, NH, USA
August 17: Lincoln, RI, USA
August 18: Atlantic City, NJ, USA
August 21: Lewistown, NY, USA
August 23: Chicago (Highland Park), IL, USA
August 24: Cincinnati (Blue Ash), OH, USA
August 25: Chautauqua, NY, USA

I still would like to inform that Roger Hodgson will be playing in France, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, and a lot of shows again in USA & Canada in the next November!

One would think that before releasing a cover CD of some of the most beautiful songs of the Century with the excuse that "Supertramp is dead and fans need more Supertramp" one had the decency to at least use GOOGLE to see what's actually happening to the composers of such songs. ROGER HODGSON, the composer and voice of the vast majority of the Supertramp songs listed in this CD above, is actually on a huge World Tour! All you need to do is to Google ROGER HODGSON and his website comes up as the first result! www.rogerhodgson.com how long does it take? 20, maybe 30 seconds with a normal ADSL connection, I give you up to a minute if you have a 56k connection. Roger Hodgson has been touring incessantly for the last three years, he is very much alive and his voice is BETTER than ever. He is accompanied by a fantastic band made of 4 of the finest musicians out there, they are "more Supertramp than Supertramp" as someone told me at one of his concerts that I was lucky to attend a couple of weeks ago. Go on YouTube and search Roger Hodgson and see what comes up. Why on earth should one settle for a COVER CD of Roger Hodgson's songs when you can have the Original? I will never understand this. If you don't know what I mean I'd suggest you listened to the Album "Classics Live" by Roger Hodgson, available on Apple iTunes or downloadable from his website (I'll save you the googling job again, www.rogerhodgson.com). If you are still not convinced, pop over to facebook.com/rogerhodgsonofficial to see what's hapoenjng in real time. Disinformation, at the time of Internet, Google, Wikipedia, Facebook and YouTube, is really unforgivable and could lead to people doubting the good intentions of whoever wrote this article above and, moreover, of whoever released the CD in question.

Good idea to release a ST tribute album, but you, Mr. Perera mustn't forget that Supertramp is alive, very alive thanks to Roger Hodgson, who is the former Supertramp who wrote seven of the tracks of this CD, the most popular ones.
(Breakfast in America, Take the Long Way Home,Logical Song,It's Raining Again,Dreamer and School)
If you want to see the soul and spirit of Supertramp, it's easy, just check Roger Hodgson Tour dates posted before me, and enjoy.
Roger Hodgson is involved in a world wide tour since many years, one after other, with a great success, and with most of them sold out, only what you have to do is taking a look at his website and you can see all the info
and you can also visit his channel on You Tube: http://www.youtube.com/user/MrRogerHodgson?feature=g-user-u, and you will see how the spirit of ST is more alive than ever
Roger, in solo shows, with orchestras or with his astonishing band offers all the magic you can imagine, he is better than ever, no doubt!
Who needs the old ST if we can enjoy these brand new and fresh shows that Roger performs all around the world?
Don't hesitate and if Roger plays near your area, get a ticket and live an unique experience. Roger on stage is the best gift you can give to yourself.
The real man, the writer and composer of these gems and many more, the real voice that nobody can replace, we are so fortunate to can enjoy him!!
Trust on me, go and see him,you won't regret at all

A tribute album is always a good idea. what really annoyed me is the use of the excuse that "Supertramp is dead". It is not dead! Ok they may not have released any new songs for a while, but Roger Hodgson is touring and taking the voice, sund and spirit of Supertramp with him around the world Believe me, if you want to LIVE Supertramp again there's no cover album that can do that miracle! But if you attended one of Roger Hodgson's concert you would probably feel you're back at the time when Supertramp were famous and popular. The sound of Roger's voice and of his guitar have't changed in 40 years, in fact if they have they have definitely got better, stronger and more passionate than ever. It takes a couple of notes to realise that HE IS THE REAL supertramp. Mr Perera, please do some homework, or use another excuse to promote your latest release. Thank you.

I am really impressed by what I read in the article.
As you can write an article without informed before?

Roger Hodgson takes many, many years performing live show around the world enjoy making and giving happiness to thousands people who have seen him live, or listen to him everyday ....

Everyone knows quen wrote and composed the greatest hits of Supertramp when was in this band, and the great songs he wrote in his solo career. Roger Hodgson is the very essence of that sound which takes us in his most successful, as the great voice present today, I'd much improved over earlier times. Now it sounds better, more sound quality and voice features not previously exisitían nuances.

Who does not know "Dreamer", "Breakfast in America"??, "Fool's Overture", "Take the long way home", "Give a Little Bit" and many more hit songs from his extensive repertoire make for not list them all. .....

So, please correct the article and expose a more real now ..

Roger Hodgson is now in its World Tour 2012 "Breakfast in America"??, touring North America .. Come to one of them and check that has been wrong in the writing of this article.“Roger Hodgson, the essence of your harmony”.

I can only say at least once in That Their life has to Attend a live concert by Roger Hodgson. It is a unique experience, where unify all your best feelings of your heart and your soul.

Roger connects with his audience in an extraordinary manner, creating a magical relationship that few artists achieve the level of today in his live concerts.

Here are other examples of the best of their repertoire available on iTunes.

Now we can enjoy His last great work in iTunes “Live Classics”, the songs Were Recorded In Different Countries of Their live shows, Brazil, Norway, Venezuela, France and Germany. Great Successes That we enjoy in your new Tour 2012 “Breakfast in America”, Which will visit Different country clubs worldwide, do not miss it!

It's a shame that Brian Perera didn't realize that Supertramp's co-founder and songwriter Roger Hodgson has been keeping the spirit & magic of their songs alive for many years with extensive touring, not to mention his current "Breakfast In America" 2012 World Tour which so far has included the US, Canada, Spain, Germany, France, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Ecuador, Chile & the Netherlands. I think it is a pretty far-fetched statement to say "Supertramp is dead".... :)

There are so many songs that Roger has given to all of us all around the world: Hide In Your Shell, Child of Vision, School.. also he is truly a friend to all of his fans!!

I hope that before resorting to a tribute album you would at least see Roger live once this year... it's a treat for the ears, mind and soul!!

Just want to say that in reply to Mr Brian Perera about the comment that Supertramp is inactive and no one can give anything to Supertramp fans. Is he forgetting Roger Hodgson who tours the world constantly playing all the Supertramp greats. I was so so lucky to be able to catch one of these shows recently and he sure is keeping the Supertramp dream alive and kicking. He not only keeps the dream alive but meets and greets as many fans as he can at shows. Roger has a very large and loyal fan base and we all still love and admire him so much. We all owe him so much, so keep it going Roger because you to me and a lot of fans are Supertramp..

Many amazing artists offering their talent to an album of ageless songs....... Enjoy these versions and also the opportunity to feel and experience the songs by the original composer "Roger Hodgson" the voice of Supertramp, live. For he has been actively touring to many, many sold out venues for the better part of last ten years. Fans can feel "Dreamer, Logical Song, Breakfast in America, Take the Long Way Home, Give a Little Bit in person, played by the original composer, there is no better way.

He collects more and more fans everyday and with his talented band truly sounds better then ever. So please strike out and experience the music, with Roger and his band. He is offering many US dates as he just launched his first US tour in 30 years!! So excited check out his website for upcoming concert dates:

is just one of the reasons Blabbermouth needs to be more heavily moderated. Fucking ridiculous.

And the various commenters are right - not metal. I love me some Supertramp as well as many Prog rockers but really I don't think it's all that appropriate here. Nice to see Squire and Kaye working together again though and I like the line up for the album but other than Turner there's no real connection to metal here.
