TESTAMENT: 'Dark Roots Of Earth' Projected To Sell 15K-18K First Week - Aug. 1, 2012
"Dark Roots Of Earth", the new album from San Francisco Bay Area metal veterans TESTAMENT, is likely to sell between 15,000 and 18,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to industry web site Hits Daily Double. The estimate was based on one-day sales reports compiled after the record arrived in stores on July 31 via Nuclear Blast Records.

TESTAMENT's previous studio CD, "The Formation of Damnation", opened with 11,400 units back in May 2008 to debut at position No. 59 on The Billboard 200 chart.

"Dark Roots Of Earth" was produced, mixed and mastered by acclaimed British producer Andy Sneap (ARCH ENEMY, NEVERMORE, ACCEPT, EXODUS). Special bonus tracks were recorded, mixed and mastered by Juan Urteaga (MACHINE HEAD, EXODUS, TED NUGENT, NIGHT RANGER) at his Trident Studios. The cover artwork for the effort (see below) was painted by Eliran Kantor, who has previously worked with ATHEIST, SIGH, ANACRUSIS and GWAR, among others.

The "Native Blood" video can be seen below.

TESTAMENT vocalist Chuck Billy collaborated with seasoned director Mike Sloat to put together a clip that is universal in message while bringing the spotlight to Billy's Native American heritage — The Pomo Indians.

The performance portion of the video was shot on the Billy Ranch in Hopland, California, where the flames were huge and the temperatures were high.

The "Native Blood" clip is about the growth a Native American youth throughout the years. When faced with hatred, racism, bullying, and harassment, he uses nature's sanctuary to recharge and meditate on the lessons he learned from his grandfather to handle these very tough situations in a way to honor and dignify himself and his people.

Billy previously stated about "Native Blood", "It's almost like a protest song, that the Native Americans have a voice that needs to be heard — that's the chorus of the song."

I am a big Testament fan, but I have to admit I was totally surprised by this one. They totally exceeded my expectations. This album is defintely better than TFOD, and like all great bands do they gave us something different and unique this time. So far it is album of the year for me ( in any genre!). Excellent picks for the covers of Queen, Scorps, and Maiden!

love the album, but i kinda hate the drumming

it seems way too aggressive in some spots, especially the blast beats...i think the songs would have benefited greatly from less of a death metal approach to the drums

This is an awesome record. For me its about equal with Formation of Damnation. I really don't understand why some people don't like that album. Songs like The Persecuted Won't Forget, Evil has Landed, Dangers of The Faithless, Henchmen Ride etc are all bad ass in your face brutal thrash metal.

This new album is a bit different but equally as good. Testament never disappoints. They are my favorite pure thrash metal band of all time.

Another classic from Testament. A more consistent band than Anthrax. Definately is better than The Formation of Damnation. Even the name is better.

Testament rule. Awesome song. The video's a little on the nose but very cool none the less. Here in Northern Canada I had the opportunity to see how much pride and self respect the teachings of native elders, presumably about their way of life pre european settlement, could instill in men who had been dealt a pretty crappy hand in life. It was inspirational and made feel more than a little guilty about the raw deal the natives received at the hands of my ancestors. Hopefully equality can be reached in the near future.

Rob Casket, There's a little more to blasting then pounding as fast as you can. I assume your "Lars can blast" comment is trolling. Lars probably can.... it's just that like the rest of his drum technique, it would be merely mediocre.

I can't say the new album is ENTIRELY great. There are 4 songs I thoroughly enjoy, the rest are skipped every time.

Rise up
Native blood
True American hate
Throne of thorns

Funny how some people whine that it's nothing new, that they're doing the same old thing. They would be the first to whine if they'd change their style.

I think the solos here are impressive, good drumming, good songs, really a decent new album with something new in places, like Anthrax did a good new CD too.

But I like this one even better! More variety great song writing and the inclusion of another classic Testament ballad in Cold Embrace is just epic! Chuck singing sounds great! This was probably my most anticipated album of the year and it has actually exceeded my expectations! For me it melds heaviness and melody together in perfect balance. Much respect Testament!
