ANTHRAX Guitarist Doesn't Understand Why U.S. Government Doesn't Step In To Help RANDY BLYTHE - July 31, 2012
On July 27, Artisan News spoke to members of SLIPKNOT, ANTHRAX and ASKING ALEXANDRIA at the Camden, New Jersey stop of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival about LAMB OF GOD singer's incarceration in the Czech Republic in connection with the death of a fan more than two years ago. You can now watch the footage below.

Blythe, 41, is accused of causing the fatal injury that occurred at LAMB OF GOD's May 24, 2010 show in Prague. The singer allegedly either pushed or struck a 19-year-old fan named Daniel N. — a guitarist in a local metal band — and that person died almost a month later of bleeding in the brain.

Randy has been charged with causing "bodily harm of the fourth degree, resulting in the death of a fan" and faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

Shawn M. Crahan (a.k.a. Clown; SLIPKNOT): "Number one, I'd say, Randy, hang in there, man. All your friends back home are totally thinking about you. There's not a day that doesn't go by that his name doesn't come up. Even the [rest of the LAMB OF GOD] band; they are family. I really don't know what's going on, and I choose not to try and listen, because you can never get the straight facts. If I can hang out with my bros in LAMB OF GOD and hear it from them directly, then I'm gonna have a straight answer. But there's so much… there's so much [confusing information being put out in the media], and I just don't buy into all that crap. I don't know what's going on, but I wish him a safe return. I know that I watched a video [of the concert in question], but from what I saw in the video — if that is the actual video [of the incident] — I don't get it. I don't know why he's being punished or what's going on. It didn't seem like anything."

Frank Bello (ANTHRAX): "[It's] unbelievable — just wrong in every way. We're praying for him. There's nothing to say. Nobody's got any control over that. [All we can offer him is] just support; that's all we can do at this point."

Scott Ian (ANTHRAX): "I just don't really understand a system that, basically, has already found him guilty without even him having a day in court, because they're keeping him in jail. It's insane to me that that's allowed to happen. And it's really disturbing, also, the fact that the U.S. government doesn't step in to help one of its citizens that's being treated extremely unfairly in a foreign country. It's pretty amazing to me that the government doesn't step in and say, 'Hey, motherfuckers. What's going on?'"

It's simple, you break the law while in another country, you are subject to the law of that country.

Do I expect someone who is on vacation from Saudi Arabia to cut his wifes head off while in the US and people say "it's OK, it is custom in his country"? NO!

It's NOT that simple. We have foreign embassies in other countries (and they have their own here) in large part for things just like this - to pretect the rights of citizens abroad. This looks more like extortion than justice.

"to pretect the rights of citizens abroad. "
Yes, to protect rights, not law. If a US citizen breaks the law in another country, the embassy will not get involved. Why? because they broke the law, even if it's not US law. The embassy protects the rights. If the embassy got every American out of jail, we would all be bringing back kilos of hash back from Turkey and gold from Napal. Please finish bashing your head in, you are already brain damaged.

Hey, last time I talked to you, you said the Colorado shooter was on wealfare. The government gave him money, you are correct, but if was for a research grant douchebag.

You are flat out wrong. You need to go read up. We have treaties in place that are designed to ensure certain rights are extended to citizens who travel abroad. The very first course of action when lawyers are not enough is via the embassy.

you're an idiot. no idea where you live, but just because things work one way in whatever part of the world you live in, doesn't mean it works that way for everyone. unemployment requires you WORKED for a certain number of hours before you receive any money back, welfare you can apply for but doesn't mean you will recieve... You're an idiot. Fact.

Unemployment benefits is insurance that you pay into when you work. You must have established a base year and X amount of weeks to be eligible to recieve benefits, also you must be put out of work through no fault of your own.

By any and all means, its not welfare. Get your facts straight.

Read this:
After declaring during a recent interview that “I know [President Barack Obama] was born somewhere else than America,” the Megadeth main man first got an earful from GWAR’s Oderus Urungus; now President Obama himself has spoken out against Mustaine, making some pretty damning accusations of his own.

It’s no secret that Obama is a metalhead; a couple of years ago, he weighed in on the state of The Dillinger Escape Plan, too. Still, the Prez so rarely talks about metal in public, it’s always still kind of surprising when he does.

When asked during a press conference earlier today if he’d heard about Mustaine’s comments, here’s what President Obama had to say:

“Dave Mustaine has a lot of questions about me? Well I have a lot of questions about him! How do we know he really had anything to do with those songs on [Metallica’s] Kill ‘Em All and Ride the Lightning? I didn’t see him write them, did you? I’m not questioning it, I just… I know he didn’t write any of those riffs. How come he was invisible until he became whatever he was in Megadeth?”

Well, let's examine your logic:

The government isn't helping Blythe. So you blame the guy who's trying to replace the current head of our federal government, but you don't blame the incumbent. Do you realize how that makes you look? You have to be either incredibly ignorant or incredibly biased. I'm not sure which it is, but both are wrong.

If you don't like what's happening now, that's your first clue that you should give a long hard look to voting for someone new.

The US government doesn't give a flying fuck about a heavy metal musician trapped in the Czech Republic because the US government doesn't even give a shit about people right here in the US.

Did they care when they were authorizing the sale of guns to Mexican drug cartels in Fast and Furious that led to the murder of one US citizen and over 300 Mexicans? Sure they did. They cared so much that when bodies started piling up they tried to use it as 'proof' that we needed to restrict 2nd amendment rights -- before whistleblowers blew the lid on the story.

Do they care about farmers in California being bankrupted because the government won't let them access water they've always used now that they've discovered some species of fish they want to save?

Does is matter that under the Obama administration there have have been 19 murders and 142 sex crimes committed against US citizens by illegal aliens that were apprehended here only to be released on US soil without deportation hearings?

Any of you that think the government gives a shit about you are sadly mistaken. The government takes your tax dollars and gives you back a disproportionately small list of benefits, usually offered in exchange for a vote. Small government is better, and that's why liberals have it all wrong.

Britney Spears became popular in 1999, thats 13 years ago. If her fan base was 12 at the time, her fans would be 25 now. Sure she gained fans over the years, but they grew up, making them voting age.

Spears does not retain past a certain age. People who listened to her when she came out are embarassed to adit it now. Her current fanbase is a fraction of what it used to be, and comprised of mostly younger people. go find me a Britney Spears fan 25 or older. Good fucking luck.

A report about the concert at issue released on May 26, 2010 by topzine.cz stated that "one of the things that were unexpected was the behavior of the singer Randall Blythe, who on a few occasions struck some fans in a relatively brutal way off the stage." The article also contains pictures; on one of them Blythe is holding a fan down on the ground. Meanwhile another report released two days after the concert at Abaton by metalopolis.net alleged that "Randy in a totally uncompromising way took down an impertinent fan, who has climbed the podium several times. The front-man clearly showed that it is his territory, he struck the intruder down, punched him a couple of times and sent him through the air off the podium.

Locking up someone who cares for his fans doesn't really solve anything. Burying living energy - it'll eventually find it's way out. Right now, it's being released by the Metal community. We're not dirtbags - we are a band of intellects who see beyond forcefed commercialism. Even the most simpleminded Metalhead has a view far beyond what is. My point is....politicians don't get it but at this point, I'd really like them to understand the harmlessness of the Metal culture. Sporting events are more violent. When we go to see a show, we all hold that common bond with an open mind for the openers. The pit isn't violent....it's a release of energy. To the outsiders, it looks dangerous but to the insiders, it's a total positive blast. Damn someone hear us & release Randy & on behalf of the extended LOG family. Nothing will being the boy back & for the record...when he died, we all in the Metal community lost a brother. Now to lock/ bury our other brother does "Nobody" any good. \m/Randy\m/

That is a statement i have been hearing way too much when "friends" of Randy and LOG are asked about this situation. That is such bullshit. If my friend were locked up at the station around the corner from my house, I would like to know the details behind it let alone if he were locked up in Prague. I hear a lot of bullshit like "if it were Justin Bieber the mainstream would be all over this story." Bullshit. His colleagues don't even seemed to be that outraged. He has been locked up for over a month now and a lot of his piers don't even know the story. I am very surprised at how metal fans and musicians have such a lack of knowledge about this situation. Shame on you. Whether you think he is innocent or guilty you should have knowledge of this tragedy. A kid is dead and your "friend" is locked up. Randy put his hands on someone and that someone died.
That someone ( the fan ) didn't threaten or touch Randy.
The fan wasn't a nut case like the guy who shot Dime so STFU with that bullshit.

He was just some excited fan jumping around at a concert. He was not throwing bottles or hurting anybody.
Randy didn't think twice about shoving a fan down and he and so many musicians have made that clear on this site.

Just because you are on a stage ( that didn't have signs clearly posted to not jump around or on the stage ) does not give ANYBODY the right to shove others around. I don't give a fuck if Randy rots in jail. He should serve prison time. He had a part in killing a dude. Somebodys son, brother, a person, a fan.

RANDY IS A FAN KILLER. Let that be a lesson to all you ego'd out fucks. Fans come with the package of the business you're in. Learn how to treat them.

Another American xenophobe who thinks the US government has jurisdiction across the whole world and that the Czech Rep. is some backwards hole whose justice system isn't fit for purpose.

Manslaughter in the 4th degre... it's a perfectly fair charge to bring to trial.

... shame that so many in Gitmo don't even get a trial... Shame that so many foreigners get "disappeared" from their own countries by the US Govt. and have no recourse to justice.

But then, if America takes foreigners and bundles them away from their home as it sees fit and without any proper charge, it's "for freedom and justice". Witness how the Americans have bundled off the likes of Kim Dotcom and Gary McKinnon for "crimes" that aren't even crimes in their own country, which is where these "crimes" were committed.

...but if another country perfectly legitimately arrests an American on suspicion of a crime there, then OH NOO WHAT BARBARIANS HOW DARE THEY!

Fuck the US Government and all the retarded Americans commenting on these stories. Did I see some dumb Yank suggest that American women were hotter than European girls? Is he freaking blind? American women are a load of creepy, obese, plastic-stuffed hookers. European chicks (Brits excepted) are HOT.

Someone died because of his irresponsible act. Think before you act dumb ass! I agree with Therecanonlybeone's post. Randy had no right to lay a hand on that fan. He should have just like backed away and let the fool fall on his face on his own, or perhaps the security could throw him off the stage. Too bad Mr. Rockstar tried to be Mr. Badass and facked himself over! LO FUCKING L!

My apologies to intelligent Americans but boy you have some dumb fuck, red neck, there's only one country in the world that matters, we are the world, elected Bush TWICE, Muslim hating, narrow minded, fuckwits.

Yes I agree that this has been handled badly but if it were in reverse and a foreign citizen is in the states and he is suspected of committing a crime he would be held on remand as it would be feared that he was a flight risk and refused bail. No trial, held until trial.

They are doing the same thing as would happen in the states. Deal with it.

"ANTHRAX Guitarist Doesn't Understand Why U.S. Government Doesn't Step In To Help RANDY BLYTHE." It's because he is an idiot who doesn't understand international law.

If this tour was used as a platform to get signatures for petition instead of just whining, then something could be done. Ever hear the squeaky wheel gets the grease? Playing the "he's being persecuted because he's a metal musician" card is fucking lame and narrow minded. He's an American citizen and last time I checked $200,000 put a person in that special bracket to pay more taxes.

....tha's probably because the "Anthrax guitarist" is uninformed, ignorant and living in his little rock star bubble.
Th US government does not care about anyone in this country who is not part of the so called "elite".
