New QUEENSRŸCHE Lineup's First Official Live Performance: More Video Footage Posted Online - July 31, 2012
The new QUEENSRŸCHE lineup made its official live debut as the headliner of the last day of this year's Halfway Jam, which took place July 26-28 in Royalton, Minnesota. Also appearing on the bill at the three-day event were ENUFF Z'NUFF, LYNCH MOB, STRYPER, BANG TANGO, TRIXTER, JACKYL, BLACKFOOT, MOLLY HATCHET and .38 SPECIAL.

QUEENSRŸCHE's setlist was as follows:

01. Queen Of The Reich
02. Speak
03. Neue Regel
04. Walk In The Shadows
05. En Force
06. I Don't Believe In Love
07. Child Of Fire
08. The Whisper
09. Warning
10. Spreading The Disease
11. The Needle Lies
12. Prophecy
13. Take Hold Of The Flame
14. My Empty Room
15. Eyes Of A Stranger
16. Empire
--------------
17. Wrathchild (IRON MAIDEN cover)
18. Jet City Woman
19. Roads To Madness

Newly released video footage of QUEENSRŸCHE's performance can be seen below.

QUEENSRŸCHE members Michael Wilton (guitar), Eddie Jackson (bass), Scott Rockenfield (drums) and Parker Lundgren (guitar) announced on June 20 that they were parting ways with singer Geoff Tate and recruiting powerhouse vocalist Todd La Torre of CRIMSON GLORY as his replacement. The new QUEENSRŸCHE lineup previously played two shows in their home city of Seattle under the name RISING WEST.

Wilton, Jackson and Rockenfield defeated Tate's motion for a preliminary injunction on July 13 that would have kept them from touring and operating under the band name,

Tate and his wife, Susan, QUEENSRŸCHE's former manager, filed a lawsuit against Geoff's ex-bandmates on June 22 in King County Superior Court over whether he should be awarded the QUEENSRŸCHE name after being dismissed from the group in June. Their complaint states Rockenfield, Wilton and Jackson wrongfully fired the singer and are tarnishing the group's brand by attempting to move forward without him.

If the case goes to trial, the date is set for November 18, 2013.

In the meantime, Wilton, Jackson and Rockenfield, along with Lundgren and La Torre have launched a new web site at QueensrycheOfficial.com.

Lundgren was briefly married to Geoff's stepdaughter Miranda; they have since divorced.

I would like to see some professional footage so I can hear him sing and not the crowd, but mainly I want new music...that will prove if this version has a future or not.

I agree, but one thing I noticed is like with Empire there is no vocals on track like they did with Tate, if you can catch footage from M3 or ROCKLAHOMA, Tate lipsynced part of these songs

I sounds to me like they are still using the Tate vocal with the effect in the background during ther chorus. I'm surprised they would still do that now.

Watch the videos above....this new guy blew the signature scream in Queen of the Ryche and Take Hold. He is fine compared to Geoff Tate now, but that is not the bill of goods they are selling us. This is supposed to be the QR of the first 5 records, and truth be told this guy couldn't hold a 1985 Geoff Tates jock! No Tate/DeGarmo = cover band.

What I am extremely interested in is the future output from this newly refreshed, talented group of musicians!

Never was into this band much, but have a friend who loves them so I have seen and heard them more than I really want to. But I will say that is a much better set list than the shit fest show I saw them last time. They played three songs from Empire back, and the show was a snoozer. Opening now with Queen of the Ryche had to better than the whole show I saw.

I always thought Tate looked like a dick, so who knows they might be better off without him.

Just watched the vids.. Too bad I couldn't make it there.

Few points:

1. Much better than some people were thinking. a solid 7 out of ten vocally...but he has the potential to push it into the 9 out of ten quality rating. You can tell he had some trouble with his vocals in parts, and was losing his voice (maybe sick, maybe strained from practice?).
He did a decent job for sure. I think he can work on some of his phrasing and pitch hitting, but you have to remember he was a DRUMMER. He only started singing recently. He is supposedly a good guitarist and songwriter as well. We'll have to see.

2. Todd may have to strengthen his voice through professional coaching as he may be winging it at this point. He needs to make it through a full show without blowing it. Once he does this, and gets it under control....I think we will be in for some amazing new queensrcyhe shows that rival the better Tate ones from 20 plus years ago.

3. He is currently singing still better than Tate has sung in easily 15 years..maybe longer. And minimal or nearly no back up fake vocals like Tate had been using extensively. Cheers to that Todd!

I just heard the Queensryche version of Neon Nights on Eddie Truck's show last night, and I couldn't believe that was Geoff Taint singing. My god, his voice is shot. Combine that with his astonishing asshole behavior, and you have the biggest career suicide in many a year in our preferred musical genre.

So then, welcome back Queensryche, and Geoff Taint, go smoke a pole at your local wine bar.

I know G.Tate's head is messed up and he's not into metal anymore. They surely had to make a change BUT so far, after all this hype and excitement about Todd, I am not sure this new singer fits the bill. Oh, he can hit some of the notes in the old tunes but this guy has know stage presence at all. He looks like he belong to a band like Death Angel with his constant head banging...this is probably the only move he knows. Hope he can write good music. Only time will tell.

on Todd's lack of stage presence should go back and look at that footage of Geoff Taint from his Brazil performance. You know, the one with the spitting. Watch Geoff Taint wiggle those hips like a Village People member, and tell me you'd prefer to see that. Dude will come out as a homosexual in the near future, or get outed when his wife divorces him over the falling income in their household.

This won't work. As screwed up Geoff Tate is, his absence equates to the final demise of 'Queensryche', even though we all know their demise hit many years ago. All of you grew up listening to Geoff perform with Queensryche - and was loving it.

The remaining members should carry on with another name for the band - I'm sure the music will be good. The fans are so fed up with Tate, they would welcome almost any decent singer to fill the void.

No Geoff Tate = No Queensryche

Still think this is the best move for them. He's still new and will develop his presence with the band. Even with Tate being a douche with no voice left, it's still big shoes to fill. But his voice is solid and sounded better than Tate did in the last few years.

Also pulling up some of the more recent Tate live footage, didn't realize how much lip syncing he did. He's not even very good at it, Anything with a major high note, he's pulling the mic away long before the note drops.

already with the "Taint" remarks. It's really annoying. Yes, he is one and a jerk, bully and pretentous ass. I think we're all ecstatic he's finally gone - I'd like to think everyone believes there WILL be a new record that crushes all their output since the early 90's. Let's just all try (myself included) to be patient. Hell, I'd buy a new live concert featuring Todd in a heartbeat. That would be a very cool starting point - a professionally recorded concert in Seattle and release that bitch on CD/DVD!!! That would be awesome!!!

Yes...you finally see what I've been saying. Lip synching from a once legendary and masterful artist. I could almost still have a touch of respect for the guy If he could still sing well and be honest with his fans. Just the fact that he piped in fake recorded vocals and was on stage doing something so deceptive and fake shows what kind of lying douche he became. Nearly every higher note and every chorus a tad high, like empire were faked. How can a singer think he can get away with that shit???
Just watch recent performances of the rocklahoma hd show on empire. His mike is too loud and you hear where he comes back in after the chorus..disgusting. Or the fake live vocals on the bing live shows. It blows my fucking mind that fans didnt throw shit at him!!!

Good to see Ryche with a frontman who's not afraid or ashamed of being METAL.

I love Tate's vocals and his contributions on those classic Ryche albums, but he lost the metal heart long ago and has since become a wine-sipping yuppie just masquerading as a metalhead.

I absolutely LOVE Queensryche, but this is really sad. The new vocalist is trying to fill some mighty big shoes, and I tip my hat to him for giving it a go, but his vocals are flat and off key. Occasionally he nails it, but with a catalog of amazing songs like Queensryche has, you really need to be able to nail it vocally or the song loses its power and impact. I think the band should relinquish or retire the name and begin anew with fresh material. There is so much talent in this band that it makes it tough to watch. I wish them all the best of luck with their endeavors, including Geoff.

Given all the BS that has happened, Tate has poisoned the personnal and professional relationships with his former band mates. Wanting the band to continue with Tate as he was 20 or 30 years ago is pointless. That singer doesn't exist anymore in voice and mentality. More power to the band in choosing to move forward if they have decided that they aren't done and have more to create together. Hell, they are just starting to work with the new guy. Chill out and let's see what they create and develop over time. I saw them last year, and am more stoked now to hopefully see them in Texas in 2012 or 2013. Tate on the otherhand, won't get any of my cash in the future.

First, I want to say as an almost 30 year fan of metal and a QR fan ever since I saw them at one of the greatest shows when they opened for Metallica And Justice For All tour when they just released their masterpiece Operation Mindcrime, for Todd to come in and do what he does is not only ballsy, but an insurmountable challenge given fans' views of this band are so rigid. I don't blame them. Was it any different when Hagar came into Van Halen? That said, look how happy this band is playing these songs the fans have been dying to hear. Todd is never going to be Tate, nor should he. Do we want some American Idol douche to fill in? Hell no. I'd rather see them with a singer the band loves and enjoying themselves than to watch them punch a clock and deliver another heartless show with Geoffrey Fartwind. Geoff forced their hand. He clearly has more in common with David Bowie than Ronnie James Dio. It's sad to see a guy who was a metal icon reject his past, his fans, and just about everything we thought he stood for. But he did and we have to accept it. So if this is the direction they wish to go, we should at least be open minded about it before we right them off. Only a new album will validate the change one way or the other. Can you imagine the pressure to fill both Tate's and Midnight's shoes?

Anyway, this is just a hypothetical since I fully support QR's endeavors with Todd. But if the choice were still up in the air, here's an idea. I would suggest getting Pagan's Mind singer Nils, and maybe even their guitarist too who would complement Wilton extremely well. The reason I suggest Nils is that he is amazing singer in his own right, he can hit amazing high notes, he has great stage presence, but maybe most importantly, he's not so similar to Tate that fans would regard him as a Tate knockoff. When bands have successfully transitioned to new singers, most recently Nightwish has done this, they took a smart route and went with somebody who has a distinctly different voice and offers something different, especially on older tunes. Dio didn't do this all that well on old Sabbath tunes nor did Hagar on Roth tunes, but I think Nils could deliver the goods, and whatever new material they did, it would be a new and maybe better Queensryche. Think how good Sabbath was on Heaven and Hell w/Dio after languishing with Ozzy. And if they got Jorn, the Pagan's Mind guitarist too, what a powerhouse that would be. If that didn't work, Rory from Conception and Kamelot would be a good second choice, and maybe the original Helloween singer would be a good alternative as well.

you're hatred for Geoff has blinded you to the reality that this guy is not that good. he was all over the place both vocally and with his stage presence. this guy is nowhere near the same league as Geoff. they should just pack it up and call it a day.

and exactly what was it that geoff did to you personally that you hate him so much? did he come to your home & screw your mom, sister, girlfriend????? the guy at one time gave us some incredible music & concert performances. so what that his musical tastes has changed. we are all entitled to change. be thankful for the great music that this once great band gave us. instead you act like bunch of ungrateful, snot nosed brats. boo fuckin hoo.

Everybody who knows anything about singing knows that Queensryche's got some of the most difficult vocal lines in the business.

This obviously wasn't a perfect night for Todd, some songs didn't sound good at all (he would probably admit it himself), but we gotta keep in mind that this was the the very first official gig and he was probably both excited and nervous as hell. And that's two things that absolutely kills the vocal chords.

So in other words, don't judge him until QR goes on a proper tour. Then we will see if he handles the job or not. I think he will. His last 2 gigs, under the name of Rising West, sounded much better. And I hope and believe that those gigs represent better the future sound of QR live.

The fact that he hits the high notes on these clips (but unfortunately without power) shows that his range is there, he just needs to get rid of some of the cobwebs. Tate couldn't hit those notes anymore, not even in the studio.

Yes, it was your comment that got me digging around on youtube! I'm really surprised that they never dragged that out in the mud slinging recently. If they did I missed it. But it's really badly done. You can tell by his throat and chest when he's singing but on those high notes he just opens his mouth really wide. Also like you mentioned the vocal sound changes to a different mix.

It's fucking Milli Vanillia metal.

The new guy's got some work to do but hope it all works out.

Great handle btw..mine was from 2002, before i found out there was a band that named themselves that after the Uli album (i dont dig firewind btw, the band that is)..

It would be cool to have singer X from X band, but at least we can be thankful they didnt pick some nu metal guy, or some core guy, or some grunge guy for that matter (of course Degarmo may be tempted by that though :P)..For those who want Degarmo back, just have Todd wear a lot of flannel hahaha.

I think its just the guy met wilton at namm and they got along really well and one thing led to another..no nnot that type of one thing led to another lol

Should get their own airplane with flannel interior and a plaid paint design on the side, then maybe Degarmo would come back lol
