IRON MAIDEN Lands On BILLBOARD's 'Hot Tours' Chart - July 30, 2012
British heavy metal legends IRON MAIDEN have landed at position No. 3 on Billboard.com's "Hot Tours" list of top-grossing tours this week with $4.8 million in ticket sales from seven performances on their 2012 tour through North America.

Although the majority of IRON MAIDEN's tour dates this summer are outdoor shed performances, arenas are also included on the itinerary. Three of those indoor events are part of this week's "Hot Tours" totals.

* Artist/Event: IRON MAIDEN
* Total Gross: $4,829,686
* Show Dates: June 29-July 13
* Show Venue/City:
- Susquehanna Bank Center, Camden, New Jersey
- Jiffy Lube Live, Bristow, Virginia
- Prudential Center, Newark, New Jersey
- Marcus Amphitheatre, Milwaukee, Wisconsin
- Colisée Pepsi, Quebec City, Canada
- Bell Centre, Montreal, Canada
- Molson Canadian Amphitheatre, Toronto, Canada
* Total Attendance: 77,750
* Capacity: 114,897

Multi-camera video footage of IRON MAIDEN July 2 performance at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey can be seen below.

The band's setlist was as follows:

01. Moonchild
02. Can I Play With Madness
03. The Prisoner
04. 2 Minutes To Midnight
05. Afraid To Shoot Strangers
06. The Trooper
07. The Number Of The Beast
08. Phantom Of The Opera
09. Run To The Hills
10. Wasted Years
11. Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son
12. The Clairvoyant
13. Fear Of The Dark
14. Iron Maiden

Encore:

15. Aces High
16. The Evil That Men Do
17. Running Free

The 34-date "Maiden England" tour is IRON MAIDEN's most extensive visit to North America for many years and includes a number of other cities the band have not played in a very long time such as Atlanta, Milwaukee, Buffalo, Indianapolis, Salt Lake City and Sacramento, and places like Sarnia (Ontario, Canada) and Cadott, Wisconsin where they have never visited before. The tour is based on the band's "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son Tour", with a setlist almost exclusively from the 1980s featuring all the classic songs and hits. The same spectacular stage set as was used on the original 1988 tour has been recreated, complete with a magnificent light show, pyro and a newly reincarnated Eddie!

When asked by The Aquarian Weekly what the reason was behind choosing a setlist like that of the famous 1988 excursion, 7th Tour Of A 7th Tour, IRON MAIDEN guitarist Adrian Smith said, "Well, we just thought it'd be fun to revisit that period in time — there were some good songs there. It's just great revisiting some of the songs we haven't played for a long while. It keeps us fresh and it's just, you know, we got a lot of new fans coming on board now, a lot of younger fans who probably never saw or were around when we did that tour. That's one factor of it for us revisiting that time and I think there's some good songs from that period, so it's fun to do."

On the topic of how this tour differs from those in the recent years, Adrian said, "Well, this is a new set; we haven't taken the stage set out, for example, so it's a new stage set. We got new effects. I think it's going to be actually more spectacular than the original tour and probably, technically, you got more stuff now to put into a live show in terms of lighting and that, which will make it quite spectacular, so I think this is going to be pretty special, this tour. What with the songs, we love playing these songs, and with the stage set and effects and of course we got Eddie, he's back, so it should be fun."

The extraordinary and legendary ALICE COOPER was IRON MAIDEN's very special guest on all shows up to July 21. After that date, special guest is COHEED AND CAMBRIA, the inspiring, cutting-edge band from New York.

I don't think there will ever be another metal/rock band as big and as adored as Iron Maiden.

I think you are dreaming! If Maiden are the biggest metal band in your own little world it?s ok. But if you look at reality and record sales concert attendance Metallica and AC/DC is way bigger.

Iron Maiden 1980-1988 great band!

Who adores No Prayer For The Dying, X- Factor,Virtual XI, Dance of Death, A Matter of Life and Death and The Final Frontier?

Metal band? Yes indeedy.
Steve Harris is the main reason why.
The man is incorruptible.

Almost $5 mil for 7 shows? Wow.
I bought scalped Priest/Maiden floor seats for $20.00 @ MSG back in '82.
Typing this made me feel f'n old.

Alice Cooper puts on an incredible show, but the vast majority of this crowd would show up if Raffi were the opener. Iron Maiden are a genre onto themselves. They have zero hit songs and zero casual fans, but they can fill any arena in America – and any stadium outside of America. Promoters need to do nothing but let Iron Maiden announce the gig, and then watch it sell out.

"They have zero hit songs and zero casual fans,"
I think why they are big again in the US is because of casual fans. They couldn't give tickets away in the early 2000's, now they sellout any place they play, but Iron Maiden was become trendy, not Iron Maiden themselvs, but trendy for the weekend metal fans.

that makes no sense "weekend metal fans"?

Maiden has the most loyal fan base.....if you have gone to a Maiden show you can see they adopted younger fans

"weekend metal fans"
Well people like to dress up. Iron Maiden is popular now, so it's cool to know two songs, get a Killers T-shirt and go to a show for the hell of it. Maiden has some of the most hardcore fans, but do really think 100% of the crowd are hardcore Maiden fans? When I see 1/4 of the crowd made up of teenagers, I tend to think not.

I was on a flight seated next to a kid with a Powerslave T on and I asked what he thought of Final Front, he had no clue about Iron Maiden and only had Run to the Hills, Number of the Beat and another song on his MP3 player

THAT is what I mean by "weekend metal fans"

Yeah right. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brave_New_World_Tour Madison Sq Gardens no less.

Maiden are fucking class. They reaping the benefits of hard fucking work, commitment to their craft, and the respect they treat their fans. And we, the fans, are right there to celebrate all these things with them. Maiden have made my life far, far better for being here and doing what they do. I have nothing but admiration and respect for them.

Many cities did not sell. I remember going to Ozzfest and if you brought your ticket stub to Iron Maiden, they gave you a free lawn seat. The arena tour with Dio and Motorhead did not do well also, then they stopped touring the US for a few years.

P.S: I'm not knocking them, I love Iron Maiden, but i'm stating fact. Their tour numbers are not steady in the US, they have been very vocal about this over the years.

with "The final frontier" tour . They are really a phenomenon , a unique case. They never clicked with the casuals like metallica , they never had publicity stunts like ozzy ,their entire audience is diehard metal fans and yet they seem to get every metal fan on every city they go on their concerts so they continue to have these monstrous tours worldwide, that no other metal band can rival .

It doesn't even matter if it's a retro tour or a new record tour , the metal fans are always there in tens of thousands each night and the band has really done it all , like no other band, since their reunion when it comes to touring : retro tours , a tour playing their entire latest album, a tour with songs only from their post reunion albums in adittionto the usual new alnum tours and the fans are ALWAYS there no matter the setlist .

Well Up the Irons, i guess .

Stop being such a fan boy "that no other metal band can rival" yeah right give me a break!

Try to be a little objective! All bands with long careers have had ups and downs even Maiden. Look at No Prayer For The Dying, X- Factor,Virtual XI, Dance of Death, A Matter of Life and Death and The Final Frontier? and their mascot Eddie is a great gimmick to sell a ton of merchandise e.t.c.

Iron Maidens Final Frontier only made it to number 4# on billboard.

I would go see this nostalgia tour I love Maiden 1980-1988

If it?s important for you which metal band is the biggest in record sales and concert attendance you can look at Metallica and AC/DC.

For me the music is always the most important not how many records a band sell or how big their audience is. If a band sell a lot of records and draw a big crowd and can put on a great show cool. If not the bands music is still great.

Lady Gaga also wishes one of the Maiden guys would get behind her. Unfortunately he would be in for a shock when he found something extra under there.

I saw Maiden at Alpine Valley in East Troy, Wisconsin back in 1992 on the farewell to Bruce tour. Alpine at the time was one of the largest venues in the country . The turnout was abysmal. Where were all those Maiden fans. And now there setting the world on fire. Perplexing. Rod Smallwood is an amazing manager. Take him away and all that merchandising and what do you have. Maiden fans let me have it. AC/DC is the greatest hard rock band in the world. Metallica is the greatest metal band in the world.

So Maiden have steadily rebuilt their fan base in the US over the last decade, that is all you are saying. Sure, in 2003 they didn't have the attendance's they would have in 2008, 2010, 2012.

That is what is great about Maiden: did they resort to gimmicks, change their sound, try an MTV show? No. They just toured and toured and built up again.

The only palliative to the US market was Ozzfest 05, I'll give you that, but supporting Sabbath is hardly selling out. Especially when you go out each night and remind the world why Maiden will never be the basket case of reality TV....

Maiden is simply the best. I wish you "fans" would support the new stuff more. Give it a chance, it will grow on you and will start to appreciate it. The first six songs on BNW, songs 2,3,5,8 & 11 from DOD, the whole AMOLAD album -epic, songs 2,4,7,8,9,10 from FF. Songs 7-10 from FF are fantastic!! If you don't like those, I'm afraid you are a lost cause. It is 2012 people, soon to be 2013!!! You are dwelling on songs that are 30 years old!! Question- Are you still the same person from 30 yrs ago? I know I'm not, neither are you(if you were born) & neither are Maiden. Hey, it's no sweat off my back (though I do think they would tour here more if the new stuff was better received), Maiden is only going to be around for another 10 - 15 years at best. I will continue to appreciate what they do and look foward to any new music. You can stay stuck in the past!

I read so many shit about iron maiden in this page...i really don't know what to say. They sold 100 millions cd's all over the world and i have to read they are not a big band. So, what have they to do for being considered for their real greatness? Does Bruce have to give his wife to all of us? It's almost 5 years that iron maiden's gigs are sold out everywhere in the world. So what's the matter guys? They sold 2-3 millions cd's of Final Frontier....Do you prefer metallica? Ok, that's not my problem...go to listen to that st. anger album. I know you love it...
