DISTURBED Singer Clarifies His 'Bad-Parenting' Comments - July 22, 2012
DISTURBED frontman David Draiman has elaborated on his previous Twitter rant regarding parents who would take young children to see a midnight screening of the new Batman film, "The Dark Night Rises".

After it was revealed that a 6-year old girl, Veronica Moser-Sullivan, was one of the victims of last week's Colorado movie theater massacre, and a 3-month-old was among the injured, there has been some online criticism of parents who would bring a baby to such a film.

Draiman, who apparently received a number of negative responses to his earlier comments on this topic, took to Twitlonger.com (a related Twitter site that allows one to send tweets that require more than 140 characters) earlier tonight to clarify his views on the matter, stating, "OK, since apparently my rant is 'news' to some people, and since the braindead tend to pull what they want from whatever is said, let me be crystal clear.

"I have nothing but the deepest condolences for the families of the Denver Batman massacre. It is shocking beyond belief, and may the perpetrator of the crime be forced to toss Hitler's salad in hell for eternity.

"However, separate from the catastrophic event is the notion that somehow it is alright to take a three-month old infant (not a six-year-old child, although that is still questionable) to a showing of any movie is preposterous. Forget the fact that a three-month-old should be safe in bed at midnight, forget the fact their fragile immune systems shouldn't be subjected to the bacterial petri dish that is a movie theatre. The primary issue is the effect that movie theatre sound often at dangerous levels of [decibels] can do permanent damage to a three-month-old infant's still-developing hearing.

"This is separate from the massacre, and it is and will remain my opinion that those who would subject a three-month-old child to it are not only irresponsible, shitty parents, but they should also be charged with child endagerment.

"As Chris Rock said, 'You can drive a car with your feet if you want to. That don't make it a good fuckin idea.'"

Veronica was named on Saturday as one of the 12 victims of the Aurora cinema shooting. Another 58 people were injured when suspect James Holmes opened fire during a screening of "The Dark Knight Rises".

Draiman revealed in a December 2011 interview that his plans during DISTURBED's current hiatus included an attempt to "impregnate my wife and have a baby."

The singer married Lena Yada — a Japanese-American model, actress, professional tandem surfer and professional wrestler — on September 25, 2011 in Texas.

Fuck this douchebag

People take their kids to the movies to enjoy life
since when is it their falt a psycho comes in with a gun killing kids..

Mosyt parents have to take their kids everywhere because they can not afford or can even find a safe, dependable sitter to watch them..

It is also summer vacation! 6 year olds can go to a late movie with their family..

It was batman!! Kids wanted to see it and I took my 4 year old to a 9pm showing already.. Come lock me up mother fucker..

You say kids shouldn't see batman, but you think it is ok for them to listen to Disturbed?

Fuck your band for life from my family!

I'm sorry but this remake series of Batman is nothing along the lines of the old Batman series or the cartoons or the original TV show.

This series is borderline R-rated and features some disturbing concepts, sights and characters study. No single-digit aged child should be dragged/encouraged to sit through such a movie just because mom & dad can't afford a babysitter.

And yes, for practically an infant, David's clarification is very sound.

He makes more sense here, but still overdramatic.

If your child's best interest isn't priority #1, you have no business parenting that child.
Of course you'd avoid harmful surroundings, but movie theatres aren't hazardous waste dumps w/blasting jet engines at ear level.
Chuck E Cheese probably louder & more germ ridden, but I'm sure he'll outfit his kid in suit of armor w/respirator and ear protection.

Bottom line? He DOES mean well.

1. a three month old is not going to enjoy the movie, much less remember it

2. a three month old is only going to hinder other people from enjoying a movie

3. a three month old should not be out in public at midnight under ANY circumstances.

batman=satan archetype for msm (dark,horned,outsider)
--
so they always maintain media image of "batman" for social conditioning of the masses

as "satan" he controls the subconcious reality--to be manipulated by the television---
---
the devil they represent has all the psychological qualities of "the shadow"--but then is shown in harmless behavior/and or self destruction

he is a nonsexual---non gun owning---spends all energy in frivolous activites--fake super hero--castrated
---
then the shadow of the masses will follow suit---having been hypnotized to worship this impotent satan mind control cult by the msm
---
they gotta keep upping the ante--to try to keep the public interested---first by modernization, then they killed heath ledger, now they do false flag attacks at his movie premiers
---
the cult of batman is vital for them to uphold---in order to keep the citizens at bay---during the war for america

I'm no Disturbed fan, but I'm in full agreement with this guy.

I'm sure Draiman recognizes the magnitude of horror that the shooting involved. His bad parenting comments were a valid sidebar that doesn't have to be specific to this theater shooting. His comments can apply to parents anywhere who take infants to late-night film screenings.

No way my wife and I would have our 9-month-old daughter in a movie theater with us, especially at midnight. Any good parent knows that infants should be in bed long before that time, and should never exposed to such loud audio. Furthermore, it's pretty inconsiderate to the other viewers, who want to enjoy the movie without having to listen to an infant crying.

The noise level isn't good for small baby at a movie, and the parents, while being selfish (shocking, I know), apparently don't know any better.

Not to mention, if the baby wakes up and cries, I'm sure those in the theatre wouldn't like it either.

I have two small boys, and I stayed home and watched movies... saving my kids, and the public, from little crying ones. These "parents" should have done the same!

The fact is, he's right. A newborn child shouldn't be out that late. Not necessarily just at a movie theatre, but anywhere really. They should be in bed.

Unfortunately though, it's not against the law, and although ideally every patent would be smart enough to have their kid in bed by that time, that's not always possible.

There's also two sides to every story; and it's possible those parents had a valid reason they went that late and took their kid. Maybe their babysitter fell through and they already had tickets they couldn't refund. Who knows?

As a parent with common sense, I really didn't think that David's comment needed clarification.

What he said in no way said that the parent's were at fault for what happened, but more a question as to why a six month old and a six year old were at the theater in the first place.

The new Batman film is hardly the kind of film you would take a six year old to, let alone a six month old.

Some of you posters really need to wake up to yourselves, read between the lines and understand what's being said before commenting.

It's sad they were in the line of fire, but it does beg the question why they were there in the first place.

Too late man.

Every sane person in the world already knows not to take a 3 month old to the movies. Unfortunately as a result of this idiot's soap box ranting I'm sure the already tortured parents of this poor child have already read his irrelevant remarks and been scarred by them.

This guy is a real class act. Hey that mourning couple is on fire. Good thing i have a fresh bale of dry hay to chuck on them.

I don't hate this man or his horrible band but he needs to learn a time and place to open such a widely listened to jackass of a mouth.

And trying to come up with clever Hitler metaphors in so many people's time of grief also doesn't help his case. And that was in the "clarifying post."

What a fucking poor excuse for a human. I mean really. Such an odd thing to go off about. I'm sure the 6 people per year that are stupid enough to bring their infants to the movies have learned their lesson. Hope you feel like a big man.

yes it's quite obvious that parents shouldn't take their infant to an action movie (firstly because of the loud audio and secondly because it might start to cry annoying the other viewers or it might need sonething that it can't be found inside a cinema etc.). Then again one should's generalise everything - who knows why they decided to take this decision...
But on the other side must this Draiman guy refer and pinpoint this subject NOW? After a horrible incident that has occured, where the main point is how can a deluded guy obtain heavy machinery, get inside a cinema and shoot every one in sight? Must he refer to this parenting subject NOW that there are some parents who - even if they made the mistake of bringing their child to see a movie couldn't have imagined what would happen - are in a devastating condition?
It's all a matter of TIMING my friends (bad or good it depends) and this douche here who is so complelled to comment on everything - should have commented upon the subject of gun posseession first and foremost...

of course it's a tragedy, i'm sure he was not implying anything otherwise. but a 6-year old at a midnight showing of a VERY dark, VERY adult movie is bad parenting plain and simple. The fact that in this case it ended in an absolutely horrific fashion doesn't make him wrong. I have a 7-year old and a 4-year old, and I wouldn't allow either to see that movie, let alone TAKE them, at MIDNIGHT, to see it...

He's right any good parent would not bring a young child or infant to a movie such as this. The infant shouldn't be brought to any movie, its bad for the infants ears and is disrespectful to the other movie goers. That infant will cry sooner or later.

The 6 year old should not be brought to a violent movie, The dark night is a very violent movie. In addition the 6 year old should be up at midnight. God forbid you have a child and you life is inconvenienced in anyways. Some people should just not have children.

Someone said there babysitter may have fell through. Well that's just too bad. IN that case things happen and you just don't get to go to the movie. It shouldn't be the end of the world. But for some parents there own fun outways that of what is best for their own child.

His meaning was crystal-clear to begin with. And he was right. On vacation a couple weeks ago in Key West, I saw several little kids running around on Duval Street at 11:00 or 12:00 at night, in amongst the bars and drunks roaming around. I'm talking LITTLE kids, like six or seven, with no supervision. It's not like Ocean City, MD, where there're things for kids to do, arcades and rides and stuff, open late.

Kevin Cellar, the shooting incident has been beat into the ground, so it is time to bring up and discuss what these absent minded parents did.

- An infant has no business in a movie theater no matter the time of day or night. Yes, there are risks to their hearing and yes, they are not the cleanest places in the world. Not only that, it's rude and inconsiderate to others.

- A toddler or young child have no business in a midnight showing of any movie, let alone Batman. Period.

I'm sorry, but these "parents" deserve to be called out. Also, someone mentioned they had no choice, as in the sitter cancelled and they already bought tickets. Sorry, that is not an excuse. Not one damn bit. if you can't find a sitter, you don't go, period. Tough titties if you already bought tickets.

I can't stand Disturbed, but their singer is 100% correct.

Anybody that would go to a midnight showing of a superhero movie is a douchebag anyway. If they want to see it so bad that they drag their 3 month old baby, they are a complete and utter retard.

You can't wait a few hours and get a baby sitter the next day? Is a Batman movie really that important to you? If you aren't ready to sacrifice your stupid interests, then don't have a fucking baby!

You don't have to be a parent to know that taking a 3 month old baby or a 6 year old to a midnight screening of ANY movie is just plain wrong. I'm a parent, and I have been for 20 years, but even before I became a parent and was a pretty reckless person, I still had the common sense to know that taking a child to a midnight showing of any movie is seriously bad parenting. It's an utterly selfish act.

Sometimes it's best to keep one's opinion to ones self. . . . This being one of those instances.

I don't really like his music but he's right about this. those "parents" should have gotten a baby sitter. that being said.....we need a meteor the size or alaska to hit this planet and take out about 2/3 of the idiots that live here.

i agree with him on his point, and understood him the first time... heck, even the 6 year old shouldn't have been out at the midnight showing

but back to that couple: unmarried with two kids (both with them at the theater, the infant being the new addition)... the "father" was holding the infant during the movie, and when the shooting started, he put the baby down and "lost" him in the chaos... the "father" was found outside "looking" for his girlfriend and kids... ANOTHER man who was in the same theater showing helped the woman and two children to safety... incredibly, later at the hospital, the "father" proposed and the woman said yes

i think draiman's point is that you have knuckleheads like this making babies who don't show an ounce of responsibility, let alone sacrificing for their children... besides the arguments that are now made after the fact about the effect of the loud speakers on young children and infants (p.s., musicians who bring along their children on tour usually have noise-reducing headphones plopped on their kids' heads), was it absolutely necessary that they catch the midnight opening of a movie? or, GASP, wait to watch the movie at home in a few months if you can't find a babysitter or a matinee showing? granted, i'll give you that it's not the same to watch a movie in the theater vs. at home, no matter what a great tv and sound system you may have at home, but i know when our kids were young, we hardly, if ever, went to the movies, and we NEVER took them as infants/toddlers...

kudos to draiman for having the gumption to say what reporters are choosing to look the other way for the sake of being PC...

The dude is right.

And he didn't backpedal, he reiterated his (totally sensible) opinion.

You don't take a baby to a midnight movie showing, regardless of whether a lunatic shows up. It's called responsibility (which, unfortuately, not enough people exercise).

Just as a general rule, if you want to go out on town late at night and party it up and can't find a sitter, then too bad, stay the hell home, or go another time. Or better yet, hold off on having kids if you're real young and want to party with friends at night.

or go to a Drive In Movie Theater .... if they still exist where you live.

The baby can sleep in the car.. My wife and I used to do that quite a bit.

BEING A PARENT REQUIRES A LOT OF COMMON SENSE!! Parents that bring baby's to movies and even sporting events have NO common sense!!! I was recently at a baseball game and two clueless so-called parents had their baby(i'd say 2 months old) dressed in home team garb with the logo painted on his/her face. I'm sure the parents thought it was funny and cute. It really wasn't at all. They were sitting in a high percentage foul ball area near the dugout!! God forbid. Get a baby sitter or better yet, stay home watch the game and be a parent.

It's good he clarified his comments.

I was pretty pissed when it seemed like he was going after the 6 year old girls parents..

But still, it's really none of his business.

There's still way too much pain from this tragedy for him to be throwing gas on the fire with his comments.
