MÖTLEY CRÜE Performs 'Sex' Live For First Time; Video Available - July 22, 2012
MÖTLEY CRÜE played its new single, "Sex", live for the first time at the opening show of the band's North American co-headlining tour with KISS — simply dubbed "The Tour" — this past Friday, July 20 at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, Virginia. Fan-filmed video footage of the performance can be seen below.

Written when the band was together during their residency in Las Vegas last February, "Sex" is the first studio track from the CRÜE since their June 2008 release of "Saints Of Los Angeles". The song was recorded at MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee's studio called The Atrium in Calabasas, California.

Speaking to VH1 Radio Network's Dave Basner in March, MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist and main songwriter Nikki Sixx stated about the band's new track, "It sounds very much like it's off of the first record [1981's 'Too Fast For Love']. And that was definitely on purpose. I've been writing very simple riffs for the last year and focusing on how these riffs would work for Vince [Neil, vocals], basically, and took it in the studio with Tommy and Mick [Mars, guitar] and the thing just came alive."

In an interview with AOL's Noisecreep, Tommy stated about "Sex", "I think Nikki is partially right. It's got a retro CRÜE kind of vibe to it — a simplistic riff. But I also think the song has a modern sound to it. There's some cool analog synths in it and a beat that is really funky and modern. So I guess you can say that it has a retro yet modern sound."

He added, "Overall, I think that 'Sex' sounds like 2012 and that makes me really happy. It turned out killer! Not that I'm not into some retro-sounding stuff, but it is 2012 kids — let's keep it moving. At the end of the day, it's a great summertime song that's going to have everybody screaming along to it on this tour."

I thought they always performed sex at every show..... Backstage with the groupies. You cannot perform sex on you tube. It'll get pulled.

"Vince Neil, looking bloated and barrel-bodied, nevertheless sounded upbeat and on key. His last appearance marred by vocal difficulties, he seemed determined to go for the high notes and hit them. He may not have done many sit-ups lately, but he’s clearly been conditioning his vocal cords"

Do not care for the studio song, and playing it live did nothing to beef it up. Kiss slam dunks them comparing the new singles.

Motley Crue has a new song called "Sex" out. Forgive me, but the thought of a botoxed old Vince Neil having sex makes me want to vomit.

He doesn't sound like ol' Mickey Mouse and his Guns N' Roses cover band, also featuring Bumbleface. Motley Crue rules, they even have all the original members. Admittedly the new song is not my favorite, but so what. Also saw that they didn't play their best song "Live Wire" in the set. THAT SUCKS!! Not worth it if they don't play Live Wire. Alright, i'm done.

Is SEX a recently unearthed track that never made its way to Too Fast For Love?? I'm glad Nikki Sixx pointed out how it sounds like something off of the first record. It's uncanny.

I still don't know why people hate so much on hair bands. Sure, their style was a bit questionable during their hey days, but some of those bands wrote some catchy rockin' songs and still play today. I think music is all about the mood you're in. If I'm in the mood for some sleazy party hard rock music, I'll crank some Crue, Guns, Poison, W.A.S.P., etc....now, if I'm in the mood for some evil, heavy ass shit, I'll crank some Slayer, Deicide, Sepultura, etc...and so forth. It's all good in the neighborhood! \m/

"So I guess you can say that it has a retro yet modern sound."

Seriously......in 2012, are bands still trying to convince their fans that they are both "close to their roots" and ALSO "moving forward"????? A retro yet modern sound.....WTF is he talking about? Typical old-style PR bullshit.

After reading some of the really nasty negative comments about MC, I feel something should be said. Out of ALL popular metal/hard rock bands Motley Crue was/is the only band that had the balls to stand up against the Machine that controlled the music industry! Not Metallica (I'm a huge fan) none of them. Don't forget that for the time MC had one of the largest record deals that any hard rock band has ever had. When told that the label was going to control there music they left the label. That's ballsy. They've played a huge part to the current freedom that bands have today. And not to mention they ROCK!!

i still like motley, but ive grown over the years to not like vince at all!! his voice sucks and he just kinda sucks as a person. its to bad everyone had to look down on john corbi, he was a great singer and that motley crue album with him was awsome!! i would rather have him in the band than vince any day.

fines song but not their best. but when are people gonna learn that sounding modern whatever that is usually means the songs sound worse, at least if you are comparing what sounds modern on the radio today, if that is sounding modern then i hope Motley Crue and most other bands just keep sounding like themselfs instead of trying to sound like that

For a free download from here the other day. I'm glad they put something out, I'd take another album that's at least as good as the 'Passable' S.O.L.A., but better would be better. I do like that song o.k. / not great but it's o.k. to hear now and then.
