EXODUS: Better-Quality Video Footage Of GRASPOP METAL MEETING Three-Guitar Attack - July 22, 2012
San Francisco Bay Area metallers EXODUS inaugurated their summer festival season with a performance on June 2 at the Scion Rock Fest in Tampa, Florida. With Gary Holt still handling guitar duties for Jeff Hanneman on SLAYER's North American and European tours, EXODUS invited out none other than former bandmember Rick Hunolt to fill in for Scion and other shows.

Longtime EXODUS fans will recall that Hunolt — the other half of the famed EXODUS "H-Team" who is on every studio recording from 1985 through 2004 and co-wrote some of the band's best-known songs such as "A Lesson In Violence" and "Deliver Us To Evil" — left EXODUS after the band's highly-acclaimed 2004 reunion album, "Tempo Of The Damned". "Murder In The Front Row", the recent photo book documenting the pinnacle of the Bay Area thrash scene, aptly documents Hunolt's tenure in the band.

Following his departure, Hunolt was replaced by HEATHEN guitarist Lee Altus.

Holt joined his EXODUS bandmates for their Graspop Metal Meeting performance in Desel, Belgium on June 23 for a special lesson in violence with a three-guitar attack! Check out fan-filmed video footage of the performance below.

Hunolt previously rejoined his former bandmates at a special concert in celebration of Holt and Lisa Perticone's wedding on September 24, 2011 at Avalon in Santa Clara, California. He also performed with them at "Bonded By Baloff: A Decade Of Remembrance", a special concert which marked the 10-year anniversary of former EXODUS singer Paul Baloff's passing. The event took place February 4 at the Oakland Metro Operahouse in Oakland, California.

Totally hit the nail on the head why I can't get into newer Exodus.

I've been a big Exodus fan for 25 years, but the last two albums have been pretty poor. I hope that playing with Slayer gives Gary Holt the kick in the ass that he's needing when the time comes to write the next Exodus album, or they are in danger of becoming nothing but a nostalgia act.

Baloff Died. Zetro quit and and thinks he's the Trash Metal Bon Scott. Dukes is here to stay and is doing a damn fine job. Hunoltis great, but Altus is AMAZING! You're going to say the last 2 albums have been poor? Go listen to Class Dismissed off of Exhibit B or Children of a Worthless God off of Exhibit A. Gary's writing has never been better. If you think otherwise, perhaps it's time to reevaluate your life.

couldn't disagree more. I love their last two records and I've been a fan since day one (I remember buying Bonded on cassette when they were with Combat). I'd love to see Rick become a permanent member again, too. They'd be the Iron Mainden of thrash! I love how Gary has matured as a writer and the songs have become more progressive and longer. Keep up the great work, Gary. Some of you fuckers will always be stuck in the past.

I can't see any damn reason why this shouldn't go on full time if/when Gary comes back. btw, Subterfuge71, I see it the other way, hopefully Gary is a kick in the ass for Slayer, at least live it looks like that, the band sounds tighter with him than with Jeff and I really like Jeff, but this is just a fact.

to see Rick up there having some good, violent fun.

I don't see why they can't have Rick, Gary and Lee all up on stage having fun, all the time. The triple guitar thrash attack looks pretty damn cool. So fucking nasty and intense. You gotta love it.

Damn those camera phones take good video.

Gotta admit I wasn't too keen on Dukes for awhile either but I think he really is starting to fit in well and has found a good niche lately in sounding like a cross between Zetro and Baloff. And don't forget it isn't his fault that Holt writes heavier and tuned down stuff now......

while it would be cool, I don't see it happening. These guys don't make shit for money as it is, I can't see them wanting to split the pay 6 ways instead of 5. If there was any justice at all, bands like Exodus, Testament, and Overkill would be as popular as those bands (excluding Metallica) in the "Big 4".

Fuck yeah...

Exodus could be the Iron Maiden of thrash metal if they kept all three singers.

And get Souza back. I'll been trying to give Dukes a chance for 7 years. He's not terrible, and he works his ass off, but I just don't like his voice in Exodus.

Fucking awesome seeing Rick and Gary together. The best part is you know damn well Gary wouldn't let Rick do this if he was still killing himself with Meth. So fuckin' kudos to Rick for getting healthy again. That fuckin' rules!
