DREAM THEATER Singer Is 'Rooting For' LAMB OF GOD's RANDY BLYTHE - July 20, 2012
Vocalist James LaBrie (pictured below) of progressive metal giants DREAM THEATER is one of a number of musicians who have come out in support of LAMB OF GOD frontman Randy Blythe, who is facing manslaughter charges in the Czech Republic.

Blythe, 41, is accused of causing the fatal injury that occurred at LAMB OF GOD's May 24, 2010 show in Prague. The singer allegedly either pushed or struck a 19-year-old fan named Daniel N. — a guitarist in a local metal band — and that person died almost a month later of bleeding in the brain.

Randy has been charged with causing "bodily harm of the fourth degree, resulting in the death of a fan" and faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

Speaking to Tri-State Rock, LaBrie said, "I've done that several times in the past, where someone's gotten on stage and you just, you know, eventually… In fact, you can go on YouTube and you can see where one time I literally [got hold] of the guy and [threw] him offstage and the guy went flying. And he hit the barricade and he was lucky enough to have somebody pretty much catch him to cushion the fall a bit. But, I mean, it happens, and you get caught up in the moment. And first and foremost, as cool as it might seem, jumping around with the band… You're caught up in the moment, you're into the music, your adrenalin is pumping, [but at] some point, it's like, 'Hey, man, get off the stage, this is our thing.' And it's not even meant as a vindictive or a menacing act, like, 'You know what?! I'm gonna knock you out.' It's more like, 'Goodbye. Get out of here.' So I think it's really unfortunate that [Randy's] gonna be held liable for this, for something that, absolutely those were not his intentions. It was a freak accident, and the guy [alleged victim], getting up three times… You'd think after the first time he'd get the message. The first time, that's cool, it's fun. Now let the band do their thing. I really can't see this going through. I can't see [Randy] being charged, and if he is charged, I think that's completely wrong. So what does that mean now? Does that mean we've gotta put up a 15-foot gate in front of the fans now so that there's no risk of that? Because they're gonna have to do something. If Mr. Blythe gets charged, then what are you gonna do to insure that we're not put into a situation like that that we have to answer for, just because someone else got a little too excited? I don't know. I hope that this is taken care of. I'm sure… There's no doubt that they would have legal representation at this point and they're discussing the matter. But I don't think this is right. This is gonna open up a whole can of worms. Like I said, what are you gonna do to insure us that it will never happen again in the future? And then what's the sense? Then [it's gonna] become more like a freakshow as far as I'm concerned. . . I'm rooting for him. I seriously can't see that charge being followed through."

fuck man, I just don't see the point of holding an innocent person responsible for a death of another innocent person. LOG is a successful band I don't think the singer decided to kill a fan in the midst of their success. fuck.

Enough about Randy effing Blythe. He's some grunting dick in some band who pushed a guy offstage and is being held for what basically amounts to, in Western terms, negligence charges (4th degree m/s, that's not even a thing in the US or UK) as a result. He's not Nelson fucking Mandela. Kind of sad if this is the sort of TMZ "celeb n00z" crap that gets metalheads excited and interested in politics.

Cue xenophobe Americans going on about how "backwards" Prague is. Lol.

What this guy had to say is irresponsible. He just admitted to throwing a fan off the stage. Why would he do that? Wouldn't the right thing to happen be to have security grab the individual, and remove them from the venue? Why throw the person back into the audience, risking the person's life, and giving them another chance to try and get back on the stage - for what - to have a band member throw them back into the crowd, risking potential death (at a concert?), only to give them a chance to try to get back on the stage again? James' statement is irresponsible.

its funny how this guy seems to be proud of throwing a 100lbs kid to the fence... very irresponsible action Mr. Labrie;
as said above, no one said it was RB´s intention to kill the guy, but non intentional injuries or death are punishible in many countries, you should learn its the security guy´s job to get rid of stagedivers, plus you have to respect the laws of the countries you travel to;
BTW, LoG sucks

The security guy DID get rid of the kid... he's the one that fucking launched the dude off the stage, not Randy. If you watch the video, the security guard was 99.9% of the force behind the push. WHY IN THE FUCK IS NOBODY ARRESTING AND CHARGING HIM!? ...oh yeah, there's no money to be made from a security guard earning just above minimum wage. Regardless of our feelings for the the family for their loss, this is a bullshit shakedown. Period.

James is right.
The naysayers on this site amaze me. So what if he confessed throwing someone off the stage. He explained clearly how some fans behave. That's why there's securities there, so fans don't come on stage. If you do, you're trespassing. If by any chance you were pushed off stage, it's your problem. You shouldn't have been there in the first place. Look what happened to Dime, that's a risk, having morons coming on the stage.

A day doesn't go by without a couple stories about other musicians being asked to comment on Blythe's situation. We're already running out of musicians to voice their opinion. Pretty soon it's going to be "Randy Rhoad's ghost asked for comment on Blythe during seance." "LA Guns Version 6.2's roadie asked about Randy, etc."

that assault and manslaughter just happens?

I agree with him that fan should never climb on stage. But that never gives you the right to physically throw that fan off of the stage into a barricade, or onto his head as he falls to the ground.

I just lost every bit of respect I had for you man. It's pretty meaningful to even feel some kind of respect for someone when you're talking about BB.net. Your posts usually sound intelligent and well-thought. This one, on the other hand, makes me think of you as a fat, oily, jobless and stupid redneck. Sorry.

haven't any of you guys ever been to a metal concert...about 75% of the time there is a dumb-ass fan who constantly tries to get on stage and get attention. They're basically asking to get throw of the stage and the security cant always be there to do it, so the singer has to...I fully support Randy and everything James said

Lets say that Randy actually shoved the kid off the stage out of pure rage, and the kid dies of a brain hemmorage a month later, there is still inconclusive evidence that the two incidents were related.

he's so right, people shouldn't go up on stage unless the bands asks them too, there was a metal festival in my 1600 people town here in iceland last weekend and people are moshing all the time and sometimes get invited to come up on stage and stagedive and the pit usually try to catch them but sometimes it doesn't happen and they fall on the floor and get hurt. people should just enjoy the bands and push each other and have some fun and get each other up, but there are always some assholes that destroys everything for others.

im very sorry for the family but the singer shouldnt be hold responsible for this.
