JUDAS PRIEST: 'Screaming For Vengeance – Special 30th Anniversary Edition' Due In September - July 20, 2012
A vital part of rock history, British heavy metal legends JUDAS PRIEST have spent four decades writing classic songs and putting on spectacular live shows. During this period, the band has sold in excess of 30 million albums, and played to countless millions of fans across the globe. In 1982, they released their eighth studio album, "Screaming For Vengeance", containing their hugely successful "You've Got Another Thing Comin'", the single which proved that metal could get mainstream radio airplay in the U.S. — leading the way for a whole generation of new metal bands.

To celebrate the 30-year anniversary of this epic release, JUDAS PRIEST present you with "Screaming For Vengeance – Special 30th Anniversary Edition", containing not only the remastered original album plus bonus tracks, but also a live DVD from the 1983 US Festival show, filmed in San Bernadino CA on May 29, 1983.

The US Festival was intended to be a celebration of evolving technologies; a marriage of music, computers, television and people — organized by Steve Wozniak, formerly of Apple.

The "Screaming For Vengeance – Special 30th Anniversary Edition" live DVD was filmed at the second, and what turned out to be last, US Festival in 1983. The Sunday was the Heavy Metal Day. "It was the day new wave died and rock 'n' roll took over." It set the single-day concert attendance record for the U.S. with an estimated 375,000 people.

JUDAS PRIEST had this to say about this memorable day in metal history: "On the day that we performed, we flew in by helicopter — and the first sight we saw was that of thousands of abandoned cars piled up around the crests of the hills that surrounded the festival arena, which as we went over took our breath away. For there below us, spread throughout hundreds of acres was a massive crowd — over three hundred thousand strong! The summer heat was raging and combined with the hot Santa Ana winds made for a scorching metal furnace on stage."

who the hell would thumbs down a day called Heavy Metal Sunday? like it or not that was metal and it kicked all the other music they had during that festval ass! I remember they were trying to make excuses as to why they had more people that day than in others combined. it really did help kill all the new wave bullshit out at the time and brought metal to the mainstream. great day for music and metal in general. you could not get that many people in one place for all the top acts today if you let them in free.

Fucking badass album.

Condolences to all the people in Colorado. Another random act of senseless violence.

Gonna go see TDKR IMAX tomorrow with a bud...definitely gonna put a damper on what should be a fun occasion.

cash grab by the at one time all mighty Priest. Priest used to be my favorite band but now they are just another cash grab. Whats next another remastered Defenders? Both SVF and Defenders are awesome albums but either put out new music or fade away already and stop tarnishing the legacy.

Nah. Not a cash grab.

Not this time.

I don't think that the entire footage of the US Festival performance is available anywhere.

That alone will be well worth the purchase.

RiotAss666 and I will buy on that day.

Totally agree, METAL 'CUSE.

Sometimes, yeah, reissues are cash grabs if they don't add any extra value...plus a lot of old bands aren't even in control of their entire catalogs sometimes.

For instance, the record label that controls Motorhead's old music continually puts out half-assed compilations, and Lemmy can't do anything to stop them. He probably barely receives any money from them either.

But in THIS case, the SFV reissue is giving die-hard Priest fans their money's worth.

Instead of just a handful of live tracks, it would be incredible if the bonus CD contained a live show of this tour from start to finish.

The 2001 Priest Jon Astley remasters are AWFUL!! I get ear fatigue when I listen to those discs.

I hope the 30th anniversary edition of Screaming for Vengeance will be a fresh remaster by an experienced engineer who understands proper dynamics. I'd rather have a reissue of the flat sounding original 80s master Judas Priest CDs, than another round of ear drum shattering Jon Astley reissues.

BTW, where is the Blu-Ray option for the US Festival release?
DVD is an obsolete technology!!

A reissue that gets it right! I have been saying this for several years now - include a DVD (all live material - not any 'making of....' bullshit) with your album and chances are good that sales will be good.

In case someone doesn't know it yet:

SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE is A LANDMARK IN ALL OF HEAVY METAL.

As this magnificent album is reaching its 30th anniversary, I've reached the 20th anniversary of knowing and listening to Judas Priest, the first old school heavy metal band that really started my heavy metal enthusiasm two decades ago. Before Judas Priest, I was a casual listener of metal, from the radio, from my friends' cassettes...but when I heard Judas Priest for the first time, my life was changed forever. Thus far, I've managed to see Judas Priest live for a total of four times, that's two times with KK and two times with Richie, both guitarist knocked me out.

nice but how many times do they expect me to buy this? I bought the record when it first came out and the remastered cd when it came out. I do not need any live recordings to make it any more special. I am assuming that is why they put 1 unreleased studio track on it so people like me would get it,but they are wrong in my case.

but as some people have already noted, if you are going to do these, at least do them right, ie, DVD's like this. the record industry is dying, and people are buying these anniversary type things, so they'll keep putting them out. i don't fault Priest, if you don't want to buy it, then don't. I don't feel drawn enough to pick this up, but if ppl do, more power to 'em!

AHHHH - HAHAHAHAHA! Funniest thing I've read here in months.

Actually pleasantly surprised Priest didn't re-use the '82 Live DVD from the SFV tour that has a much better and longer set than the US Fest show. I was at all 3 days of the '83 US Fest - imagine seeing The Clash, Motley Crue, Scorpions, Ozzy, Priest, U2, David Bowie and Van Halen and a lot of other bands all at their peak in one weekend.

What is with all the retards on here talking about cash grabs? Every time something is released they want money, if you don't think it has any value, don't buy it! You really don't have to enlighten us with your opinion that it has so little value you have now deemed it a {GASP!} "Cash Grab"!

Can't beat SFV, it has the songs, the sound, the attitude, and the originality that all other metal bands wish they had. Priest at their peak of songwriting and performance, with an untouchable wall of sound production by Tom Allom. Crank up remastered Electric Eye on a good system and feel the punishment.

I can't understand all the hating some are doing on the Priest and others do it on Motorhead or Maiden or whatever. See, maybe it's because I'm older. i remember the disco era and then Michael Jackson and when anyone who seriously played a guitar that wasn't hooked up to some synthesizer crap was getting no love. Bands like priest and the rest of the old school made it possible for record companies to turn their attention to the music i assume we all love. Many of the bands today credit their style, dress, delivery or whatever to these bands. You know how the Greateful Dead folk and Stones fan stay loyal despite the changes in the band and the fact they aren't 20 anymore. I do the same. So I thank priest for their work and I support them. Like me they have grown older, but they made by young adulthood way more fun and interesting and this album completely changed my musical repertoire. So I'm buying it and if they get some cash, more power to them. I will never be able to repay them for the years of shows and other experiences in which they shared their lives with me. I am too a musician, not metal, but every time I hit a stage I give it all. That's why i respect those who did it for me. priest fan yesterday..priest fan today..priest fan tomorrow..and the hell patrol is coming to get all the hatas
