AEROSMITH Frontman Talks 'Music From Another Dimension' - July 20, 2012
AEROSMITH's 15th studio album, titled "Music From Another Dimension", will arrive on November 6 via Columbia Records. The CD was helmed by producer Jack Douglas, who previously worked with AEROSMITH on classic early albums like "Toys In The Attic" and "Rocks" as well as on 2004's "Honkin' On Bobo".

When asked if the new album is full of rockers, AEROSMITH frontman Steven Tyler told RollingStone.com, "No. I wrote a song called 'Beautiful', and it was looked upon by the other guys as not AEROSMITH. It's off the beaten path. But anything that I question these days, I just go, 'Fuck it, let's do it.' And there's another full-bodied melody song called 'It Could Have Been Love'. I can't get away from it. My dad went to Juilliard and played a Steinway, and when you've been given the gift of music, you've got to play to your muse. Otherwise it's gonna bite you in the ass. [laughs]"

On the topic of whether all of AEROSMITH's members contributed to the songwriting process for the new CD, Tyler said, "Yeah! The band has really come to the table, and I'm so fucking proud of that. Joe Perry brought astounding stuff. [Drummer] Joey Kramer wrote one. [Guitarist] Brad Whitford plays some fantastic leads. [Bassist] Tom Hamilton wrote a couple of great songs that we put on the album, where in the past his songs have been shunned."

This guy's hilarious. Every other rock guy in the world when asked if the new album rocks or how powerful it is or whatever, says, Yeah man, it's the heaviest thing we ever did, people are gonna be blown away, etc. etc.
"Is the new album full of rockers, Steven?"
"No."
" . . . . . . . . wait, what?"

Can see that this album will NOT be a return to the Aerosmith that we once knew even IF Jack Douglas is at the helm. Now, instead of buying the album on Nov. 6th, I will pick and choose which songs to download. That is if there are gong to be any songs Worth downloading. So far, there isn't.

I agree. Jack helped produce Honking on Bobo and that was nothing special. These guys are gonna do what the record company tells them to do and release a bunch of shitty power ballads and anthems that make young girls wet their pants!

I'll probably pass...

But they always put ballads and "soft" songs on their albums. They have a special feeling for this kind of stuff. The only one I really can't stand anymore is "I Don't Wanna A Miss A Thing"... awful of this shit!

But I still enjoy songs like "Angel", "Amazing", "Cryn'", "Crazy"...

if you like your ballads, its the 70's ones that are their best, and unfortunately the blue print for the power ballads. But You See me CRyin', Home Tonight, Mia, those are well written. Angel, Don't wanna miss a thing, fluff.

Jack Douglas will not transport them in a time machine to 1976 btw. Did you hear Legendary Child? More of the same. An overproduced "rocker" with the wanton song riff and Eat the Rich Verse.

My good friend took classical piano lessons from Steven Tyler's dad, Victor Tallarico, in the Bronx back in the '70s.

He said he was an old-school Italian type who didn't like rock'n'roll but generally supported Steven.

Pretty cool story...he died last September at the age of 95.

...Steven Tyler once said a long time ago that he is a "sucker for a slow song". For some reason i always remembered that line. I guess he is a man of his word. I'm still hopefull new Aerosmith cd will be a good one!!

I think this interview/article is a bit misleading, as if Steven is saying there aren't rockers on the album, rather than they're not ALL rockers. He was asked if it was "full of rockers" and since a few tracks are slower, he said "No", but I don't think that has to mean this album won't have its share of great rock tracks.

Like BSlash said though, the ballads of the earlier days were the great ones. Songs like "Seasons of Wither" and "You See Me Cryin'" were not made for the sake of putting out a ballad or reaching chart positions.

I really wish Tyler would listen more to the guys, and when they say a song "isn't Aerosmith", he should save it for when they're over and he can throw it out there with that "Feels So Good" garbage. Sad to hear him say that a lot of Tom's songs are shunned, because I think of "Sweet Emotion" and wonder just how amazing this album could be if Tom and Brad or Tom, Brad and Joey wrote the whole album.

Well, you can take shits as much as you want in Aerosmith's direction, truth be told - This new song is pretty cool. Best Ive heard from them since Get a Grip.
I'm not expecting "Toys in The Attic", Nor "Rocks" - But I am expecting something far superior to "Just push play" and "Nine Lives"

there are actually much heavier tunes on Just Push Play then Legendary Child. Check out Drop Dead Gorgeous(joe sings), rippin' riff. Light inside, Under My skin...to me better than anything since...Pump. If they were the radio songs, people would say "they are rockin' again". but amongst those songs are Jaded, and other rubbish. (though I did like Sunshine).

its subjective, but I hear nothing new, or rockin' about Legendary Child. A watered down Joe Perry, major over production.
