MORBID ANGEL Frontman: 'There Is No Better Feeling Than Going Out And Entertaining People' - July 18, 2012
Noisography conducted an interview with bassist/vocalist David Vincent of Florida death metal legends MORBID ANGEL at the first annual charity metal event Spread The Metal Festival, which took place July 5-6 in Halifax, Canada. You can now watch the chat below.

"I live to do what I do. I don't think that it's a choice to do it, I think it's a calling, it's like a vocation," Vincent said during the interview. "There is no better feeling than going out and entertaining people and being able to take their minds off the doldrum day-to-day for just even a moment and putting a smile on their face. Now having said that, what we do, it's difficult, it's a lot of work, and we attack it tirelessly and with great effort, because it's what we do, it's who we are as people. So we get up there and it's always important, to me, to stand on that stage and give 100 percent of what I have, all the time."

He continued, "How I define a good time is when we play music and people appreciate it. It's not how big of a venue it is, it's not where the venue is located necessarily, it's how many friends we have in the audience and how much we're able to give them MORBID ANGEL."

MORBID ANGEL recently announced that it will play a set of "all-time classic songs" on it upcoming European tour with KREATOR, NILE and FUELED BY FIRE, which kicks off on November 1 in Antwerp, Belgium.

On February 24 (February 28 in North America), Season of Mist released a compilation of remixed tracks from MORBID ANGEL's latest album, "Illud Divinum Insanus". Far from being just revamped versions of the seminal extreme metal band's newest songs, this collection presents the work of 39 artists from the electro / industrial, techno and club scene.

MORBID ANGEL's latest album, "Illud Divinum Insanus", sold around 3,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release to enter The Billboard 200 chart at position No. 141. The effort marks MORBID ANGEL's first CD to feature bassist/vocalist David Vincent since 1995's "Domination".

Well, actually, it's the second best feeling. The first is when you can rinse the dye residue off your hair after 20 minutes.

Earlier today I jammed on guitar to Kreator's Pleasure to Kill, then Blessed Are The Sick.

The first, though still tremendously enjoyable, felt to me as very dated and sort of cheesy. The latter, on the other hand, is still pure genius after all those years. This album will never age, the guitars are just unbelievable, so much feeling and subtlety to them, and brutal at the same time. BATS for ever!

No better way to say "sorry everyone, we really fucked up with that last album" then this right here. Also, playing with Nile and Kreator... if they were to bust into "Radikult", people would start throwing bottles.

What are you guys talking about?

The last Morbid Angel album ROCKED !!

Now I'm going to have to listen to it today...

I was thinking the other day though, that 'Radikult' song sounds like something that could have been on Marilyn Manson's 'Mechanical Animals' album. I find it easy to imagine MM performing that song.

But apart from that, screw you bitches.

That's exactly what the problem is with music these days. They become entertainers instead of being artists, first. They ask for popularity, exposure, fame and money... oh and some music along the way, somewhere.

entertaining people.

The problem we have is that you're trying to do it with shitty music!

Stop the bullshit right here and now and write some good songs that your audience might like. Otherwise, go back to having sex with your pathetic blow up dolls.

Check it out genius, the minute you step on the stage which is sacred ground, and people are paying to see you perform, YOU BECOME AN ENTERTAINER!

Get a fucking life!

jesus fucking christ, you guys are real fucking pricks. I'm skipping a couple of tracks off the new record, but that's it. There's some very good tracks on it. I loved Heretic, I don't see why people bash this one as well. After a career that long a band has the right to drop the ball a little once in a while. About the Pete situation, as much as I like him and wish he'd come back, well you guys don't know shit and talk out of your asses a lot, we don't really know what happened and honestly it's not of our fucking business. At least they got an amazing drummer in the band to replace an other amazing drummer.

Why people bitch on te last record? Because we know they can do better. They've proven that in the past.
