LAMB OF GOD Frontman Gives First Jailhouse Interview: I Can't Wait To See My Family And Friends - July 17, 2012
Czech tabloid Blesk.cz has published what it claims is an exclusive jailhouse interview with LAMB OF GOD frontman Randy Blythe, conducted via his attorney. (In case you are skeptical, the band's reps has confirmed to SPIN that the interview is indeed legit.)

Blythe was arrested in the Czech Republic on June 27 and is facing manslaughter charges in connection with a 2010 Prague concert at which he allegedly shoved a local fan off the stage. The man, who is said to have stormed the stage three times during the show, reportedly suffered a brain hemorrhage that resulted in his death nearly a month later.

Blythe's next Czech court appearance is scheduled for Thursday, July 19.

A rough BLABBERMOUTH.NET translation of Blesk.cz's interview with Blythe follows below.

Blesk.cz: What is your recollection of the incident that happened at club Abaton in Prague during LAMB OF GOD's concert in May 2010?

Randy: "I don't know anything about any sort of incident [that allegedly took place during the concert]. I remember very few details about the show, mainly because I have played a lot of concerts [before and after the gig in question]. I just remember that the stage at the club was very small, and we barely managed to fit our equipment on there. Also, apparently there was a security guard there because many people climbed onto the stage — including one small boy, in particular, but I could be mixing up details with what happened at other clubs. Since I don't wear my glasses while performing, I see little more than blurry outlines. In any case, I did not attack anyone. The only way I could have come into contact with anyone from the audience was if I was protecting myself from [people bumping into me when climbing on the stage]."

Blesk.cz: How are you spending time in custody and with your fellow inmates?

Randy: "I read, I write letters to friends, family, and I also keep a diary. I get along very well with [my Mongol cellmate], and I am even trying to learn a bit of Mongolian. I'm starting to write a book about my time in the Pankrác prison and come up with lyrical ideas."

Blesk.cz: Do you have reservations about cooperating with the Czech police and getting justice in your case?

Randy: "As far as the police is concerned, I believe that they have acted very professionally and followed the principles of good conduct. But in terms of justice, I honestly do not know what to expect because it is different than the U.S. I thought that if I made bail, I would be released."

Blesk.cz: On Wednesday (July 11), you received a visit from your wife. Are you getting a lot of support from your family and your fans?

Randy: "My meeting with my gorgeous wife was beautiful and encouraging. I have received messages and support from family, my friends and my bandmates, who all missing me, and I cannot wait to see them all."

Blesk.cz: You have made bail, and it appears that you will soon be released from prison. What are your future plans?

Randy: "If I go back to the U.S., I will mow the lawn, spend some time with family and plunge right back into performing, so that I can pay for my legal fees. I have to help my friends earn some money so that we can live decently. If I had to stay in the Czech Republic, I would look at the sights, especially in Prague. I would follow Kafka's footprints and I would eat dumplings."

Randy has been charged with causing "bodily harm of the fourth degree, resulting in the death of a fan" and faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

Blythe, who has already posted bail of 4 millionCzech Koruna (approximately $200,000), will have been imprisoned for three weeks by the time he gets his next day in court.

This week's hearing will reportedly involve a panel of judges that meet to review the prosecutors bail challenge; they can approve the bail or annul the bail.

I do not find it surprising at all the Randy is staying positive throughout this ordeal. That he still has his sense of humor (as evidenced by his "eat dumplings" comment) speaks volumes about his true character.

I do not, but I know my rights here and can usually count on them to work. Other countries, even the so-called enlightened ones you all seem to tout, are mired in corruption and suffocated by red tape.

Why is everyone defending this guy? I never even listened to Lamb of God so I don't really care either way, but this dude killed somebody. Accident or not, a young man died because of his actions. If that happened to someone in my family I'd want who did it held responsible.

I thought he handled the questions pretty well. I don't know that I'd have been able to keep my cool by this point....if it was me in there. So.....after the way he's been done.....with paying bail.....and then STILL BEING INCARCERATED....I would have been flipping the fuck out.

Nice, very nice.

Oh and by the way, someone died.

Just a detail, I know, and I don't mean Blythe has brutally murdered this person.

But someone died, nevertheless. I just thought it was worth mentioning, since apparently, the way it goes, it is just about Blythe being made the poster boy for an entire generation of left-aside and misunderstood society's rejects, who feel so hurt in their little hearts that their "brother in arms" they never met is going through such a predicament.

Just leave Blythe the fuck alone and get a life. I have a hunch he does not really feel supported by people who suddenly think he's marvelous just because he happens to be involved in an accident.

On a positive note, it is permitted to assume that Blythe will just eventually be released, since no charge can be held in absence of evidence that he is a cold-blooded murderer. Accidents happen.

if Randy was a hot blonde American journalist he'd had already been released and back in America.

Never take your freedom for granted. Mowing the lawn, hanging with your friends, hugging your wife and sleeping in your own bed don't seem so stupid and tedious when basic freedom is taken away.

C'mon Bill, put an end to this fiasco.

Do fans understand the risk of accident, or perhaps even death, while going on stage? I've never been to a show outside of the US, but each time I have seen someone even try to reach up and get on the stage (in the US), they get dragged back down and pounced on by a few guys. Would I like to go up and high five someone during a show? Hell yeah, but I'd likely get my ass beat and thrown out of the show. That's why I stay in my seat.

If he from a band, say like, Big Country or The Alarm (thinking of bands that primarly do not play on the other side of the pond), would he still be in jail? I think not, but because he's from a HEAVY METAL band, the hammer falls harder than usual.

I know it's a different comparison, but years ago, Dave Matthews' bus unloaded a bunch of shit in a river and got what, a citation? If that were Zakk Wylde's bus, all hell would have broken loose....

Randy seems to be acting in a very cooperative and respectful manner. I hope that will help him in the long run.

People have to take responsibilty for themselves when they put themselves in dangerous situations. Blaming Randy for this persons death is like blaming a zoo because someone broke into a lion's cage and got killed. Barriers are there for your safety. If you are a dumbass and break the rules you are doing so on your own accord and taking the risks that come along with your decision. Don't go swimming in the Everglades and then act surprised if you get attacked by an alligator.

If you stage dive you run the risk of no one being there to catch you or falling wrong and smashing your head. You can't blame other people for your own incompetence and disregard for your own safety.

He's not saying much but he shouldn't anyway. He seems pretty positive considering his situation. After a few days of being locked in a room I think I'd start losing my mind.

Just saying, you gotta give respect to the guy for staying positive.

As someone mentioned, someone did die. That is tragic and I'm sure had this been made public when the incident occurred that the band would have collectively would have responded cooperatively towards the matter.

If I was a parent and my child died, I don't think I could wait two years to say something. I would have been on the first plane to Virginia to confront the supposed killer. That's what doesn't add up for me.

Possibly, and this is just a thought, the family wanted to give their kid some recognition in his death and publicity and this was the way they saw how? I dunno but it seems strange on that front that they didn't act far sooner.

A girl got crushed in the 2001 Big Day Out in Australia during the Limp Bizkit set and days later she died. That was in the news for months in Australia. It wasn't something the government waited until 2012 (the next time they visited Australia) to say something about it and make it public.

If someone died at a US concert from a US band (home crowd, home soil) I'm sure it would be in the news straight away.

That's what makes me believe this is a shake down and a point of the finger with nothing backing it. It's also what I think will eventually guarantee Randy's freedom.

How on earth in this day and age with the amount of social media and whatever this didn't come out by one of his friends, family etc is beyond me. Are you telling me none of the friends said ANYTHING for two years? Even at the kids funeral, did they say "he died because he hit his head at the Lamb of God concert?" - that would have come out by now surely considering the bands worldwide success?

End rant. Free Randy. Condolences to the family for their loss.
