JOE LYNN TURNER: JON LORD 'Was A True And Gifted Original, A Gentleman Of The Industry' - July 16, 2012
Legendary hard rock singer Joe Lynn Turner (pictured below; DEEP PURPLE, RAINBOW, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN) has released the following statement regarding the passing of former DEEP PURPLE/WHITESNAKE keyboardist Jon Lord:

"I am deeply saddened about the passing of Jon Lord. I am proud and humbled to have known him both personally and professionally, and blessed to share a special time with him. He was a true and gifted original, a gentleman of the industry, and he shall be greatly missed! My sincerest sympathies to his family and relatives and to all of us who have lost one of the great musicians of our time! R.I.P., Jon... May God hold you in his hands."

Jon Lord died earlier today (Monday, July 16) in a U.K. hospital at the age of 71. He suffered a fatal pulmonary embolism at the London Clinic after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Jon was "surrounded by his loving family," a message on his official web site said.

In addition to DEEP PURPLE, Lord played in WHITESNAKE — the band led by ex-PURPLE singer David Coverdale — from 1978 to 1984, having appeared on the albums "Trouble", "Lovehunter", "Ready An' Willing", "Come An' Get It", "Saints & Sinners" and "Slide It In".

Jon Lord is survived by his wife Vickie and two daughters — Amy and Sara.

Recently I got a copy of Jon Lord's solo disc Beyond the Notes. I wasn't sure what to expect. It was a pleasant surprise. Classically inspired, contemporary music, played and arranged by a true maestro. I shall miss you Jon. From Machine Head to Malice in Wonderland you gave so many of us great memories and inspiration. Gonna rock some Deep Purple at the California Jam in your honor.

Good singer, but damn Joe ace the wig..he was totally bald 30 years ago....I ran into him at SIR studios in NYC in early 80's without his wig...100% bald. Just sayin'.
