DAVID COVERDALE: 'It Was An Absolute Joy And Pleasure' To Know And Work With JON LORD - July 16, 2012
Former DEEP PURPLE and current WHITESNAKE frontman David Coverdale (pictured below) has released the following statement regarding the passing of former DEEP PURPLE/WHITESNAKE keyboardist Jon Lord:

"It was an absolute joy and pleasure for me to know him and to work alongside him. He is missed already."

Jon Lord died earlier today (Monday, July 16) in a U.K. hospital at the age of 71. He suffered a fatal pulmonary embolism at the London Clinic after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Jon was "surrounded by his loving family," a message on his official web site said.

In addition to DEEP PURPLE, Lord played in WHITESNAKE from 1978 to 1984, having appeared on the albums "Trouble", "Lovehunter", "Ready An' Willing", "Come An' Get It", "Saints & Sinners" and "Slide It In".

Jon Lord is survived by his wife Vickie and two daughters — Amy and Sara.

Instead of getting all the silly updates on the Queensryche soap opera, we should be flooded by celebrities commenting on Jon Lord's passing. Sadly, the music business is much more inclined towards surface gossip than it is to honor passing veterans.

RIP!

because he was such an inspiration to so many. So many bands we love list Deep Purple as one of their biggest influences.

Deep Purple was a band I never "got" though always sad to lose an influence on the classic rock community.

By looks of David Coverdale, Jon should've outlasted him. DC is looking worse than Alice Cooper these days.

I'm not sure what you're into but at the very, very least you need to hear the albums 'In Rock' and 'Fireball'. The song 'Fireball' itself will literally singe your eyebrows if you get too close the speakers.

AND 'Bloodsucker'!!! Come on man. Get with the program!

I find it kind of weird that I just sent my friend a clip of "burn" yesterday, and was listening to "come taste the band". RIP Jon Lord, you will be missed in the rock community.

Nice of you to stop in, declare that you don't like Deep Purple and that David Coverdale looks old, oh, and to pay your respects to Jon Lord.

Check out any of the Classic era albums as I call them, In Rock, Fireball, Machine Head, Made In Japan, Who Do We Think We Are, Burn, Stormbringer and Come Taste The Band. In Rock is a crushing album.

Where's the statements from his Purple bandmates? Blackmore, Glover, Gillan, Paice? Coverdale is the only one? He was epic in Deep Purple. Great in Whitesnake too - often overlooked but added a lot of texture.

That era of WHitesnake is still my favorite, it was practically Deep Purple Mach something, up until Ian Paice left.

Coverdale is a good guy..and DAMN IS "BURN" A KILLER TUNE, one of the most kickass rock songs ever recorded, with a SERIOUS keyboard solo like no one else could play quite like that. Then it goes into Lord' keyboard intro on "Might Just Take Your Life".
