Friends And Fans Of LAMB OF GOD Singer Planning Vigil In Front Of U.S. Supreme Court - July 16, 2012
Tommy Streat, the organizer of the vigil which was held on July 8 on Brown's Island in Richmond, Virginia in support of LAMB OF GOD singer Randy Blythe, told the Richmond Times-Dispatch that he is planning another vigil for Sunday, July 22 from 1 to 3 p.m., in front of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Blythe was arrested in the Czech Republic on June 27 and is facing manslaughter charges in connection with a 2010 Prague concert at which he allegedly shoved a local fan off the stage. The man, who is said to have stormed the stage three times during the show, reportedly suffered a brain hemorrhage that resulted in his death nearly a month later.

Blythe's next Czech court appearance is scheduled for Thursday, July 19.

"Hopefully, we'll be welcoming him home" after the court appearance, said Streat. "But if not, we'll be sending the message that will support him."

Randy has been charged with causing "bodily harm of the fourth degree, resulting in the death of a fan" and faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

Blythe, who has already posted bail of 4 millionCzech Koruna (approximately $200,000), will have been imprisoned for three weeks by the time he gets his next day in court.

This week's hearing will reportedly involve a panel of judges that meet to review the prosecutors bail challenge; they can approve the bail or annul the bail.

Streat told the Richmond Times-Dispatch that he's been amazed by the support from fans so far but hoped that some of the more vocal fans would remember to better consider their comments.

"A lot of the Czech news sources are starting to pick up on that stuff, and it's getting nasty," he said. "There's no reason to bash another country. They have a different legal system from ours, but we have to respect that."

Jonathan Crane, a reporter for the Prague Post, an English-language newspaper in Prague, told the Richmond Times-Dispatch in an e-mail, "Blythe has not been denied bail, but rather, the bail has been challenged by the state prosecutor. I know this seems strange — in most other countries, you post bail and then you're released. Bail in the Czech Republic is subject to appeal, which is what happened here."

A LAMB OF GOD fan from Brandenburg, Kentucky created a petition in an online forum on the White House web site to ease the process of petitioning the government to help Blythe. As of this morning, more than 15,000 people had signed the petition. (A petition needs 25,000 signatures in 30 days to get attention.)

"In just eight days open to the public, we have gotten … 10,000 signatures," creator Espedito C. "Tito" Fink told the Richmond Times-Dispatch in an email Thursday. "This has been a group effort of everyone in the Facebook group that I created. Without them, I don't think this would have gotten off the ground.

"I'm hoping this will bring enough awareness so the federal government will do any and everything within its power to diplomatically bring Randy home while remaining on good terms with the Czech Republic."

LOOOOOSERS!

More xenophobic American morons protesting the perfectly legitimate arrest of this idiot by the Czech authorities... meanwhile their own country snatches people from their homelands and even on occasion shoves them in their Cuban prison, Gitmo, without any due process for "crimes" like file-sharing or owning a website that hosts data that are not even crimes in the jurisdiction in which they were committed. Do they protest that? No, because when Murrkah does it it's "for justice and liberty"; when a country they haven't heard of (ie anywhere except England and Canada, because they don't own maps) does it, they're backwards trrrists that need to be bombed!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but no one has ever been sent to Gitmo for filesharing and Kim Dotcom isn't there either. I don't agree with everything the American government does and I definitely disagree with holding people indefinitely without due process of law, but it's important to get your fucking facts straight before your open your ignorant fucking mouth.

The Czech authorities did not go through the proper diplomatic channels of presenting evidence and demanding extradition. Instead, they waited for two years, arrested Rany Blythe at the airport, set the bail, collected the bail and still haven't released him. Think he's too big of a flight risk? Fine, then don't offer bail in the first place. But by any fair standard of justice, it seems wrong to offer bail, accept the money and then not release him.

It's called MANSLAUGHTER, pal.

One does NOT have to have the intent to harm or kill to be charged with manslaughter.

It sucks for Randy and his family, but if things went down the way they're purported to have, then he may be in deep shit.

i believe the US Supreme Court is on vacation for a few weeks, so probably very few people would notice. also, the court wouldn't have any power to do anything about this anyway. they'd be better off doing this in front of the white house.

just wait for the results of the procedure... insisting he must be innocent purely because he's in a band you like is beyond sheeplike and retarded

Manslaughter in the 4th degree is a perfectly reasonable charge to lay against the guy. The FOURTH DEGREE ffs. Does that even exist in the US? Not to my knowledge. It basically amounts to a charge of negligence, they're not saying he's a vicious murderer but he shouldn't be a tard and shove people about without considering that he might cause them serious injury and be held responsible.

And no, this is not Texas, you don't have the right to brutalise and assault people just because they come on your propertmyaah (or indeed a stage, which you don't own).

This man should have been arrested on his first appearance on stage or maybe even the second. Fault lies with the security and the venue. They've got the wrong person in custody. Not to mention the fact that this kid could have hit his head when he did a stage dive into the crowd. We have no idea when he hit his head.

Innocent until proven guilty

Fault should land on the venue, security and the person who rushed the stage. He should have been arrested on the first or second time on stage. He may have hurt himself stage diving into the crowd on the first two times. Battle_Magic needs to do her homework before she types.

But I guess this is entertaining.... for the rest of us humans.

If logic is not an opinion they should have arrested both the singer and the security guy(s?) who threw the kid around. But if somebody has been looking into the accident for 2 years and then some authority decided that the singer has to be kept there, I think there is a reason.

I'm guessing the vigil at the Supreme Court is more of a logistic thing rather than trying to petition the Supreme Court. I live in that neighborhood, it's probably one of the easier places to hold a gathering. There's lots of open space and it's directly across from the Capitol Building. The White House grounds are way more crowded, particularly during the height of tourist season in DC.

as we don't like it, we must abide by their legal system. Even though it is obvious he's getting the shaft. (no pun intended Randy).

Yeah I signed the petition, not because I'm ignorant about how the Czech legal system works and Randy is a douche bag , asshole and a dumb ass. I signed it because he's getting railroaded. How many lead singers have tossed moronic, over zealous fans off stages in the Czech Republic in the past oh, 30 years? And this is the only indecent that resulted in an injury, let alone a death?

Jeeze, I'm not even a fan of his shitty band.

You sign it because it's the right thing to do.

Do the right thing? Hard to fathom, huh?

"When those dollars dry up?" Did you REALLY just say that? Bwaahaaahaaaaa! You apparently aren't up on how the dollar, in comparison to other world currencies, has been on a steady downhill slide for the past several years, and ain't recovering anytime soon. And no, I'm not an America-Hater like Battle_Magic, I just know there IS a world outside our borders, and many places, CZ included, can do JUST FINE without us, our involvement, or our (used-to-be) precious dollars.

Oh, and also..."vigils" don't work...EVER. Randy's fucked, 5 years minimum before he comes home...watch and see.

Damn right I said it. I'm up on the economy in the US and I know pretty much what's going on around the world. Not an expert...but I know what's up. And you are right that it's been in steady decline....therefore you're making my statement that much more understandable. If you're already hurting ....then touring bands from other countries start avoiding your place....you're eventually gonna feel that drop in tax revenue, business, etc. So...I guess you're right. Thanks for making my point all that much more clear.

Uh, don't LOG's lyrics criticize the abuse of American power in the world, and now these jackass fans are attempting to put in motion something the band has taken a stand against?!? It's laughable and pathetic. Randy needs to face the music and pay the piper.

2 points!

Number one, if the courts see that YouTube video of randy picking a fight with his band mate while completely hammered only to end up getting knocked out cold outside the tour bus, he's gonna be toast! That video displays a very aggressive, self destructive Randy Blythe.

Number two, @Battle_Magic, I love being American and wouldn't trade it for all the money in the world so as for all of you anti-American jealousy, whatever dude. You say something, Americans get defensive and say something back to you blah blah, at the end of the day, we are American and it feels damn good so... Hope your silly comments made you feel better!
