GEOFF TATE Responds To Allegations Of Violence, Refusal To Perform Early Material - July 14, 2012
QUEENSRŸCHE members Michael Wilton, Eddie Jackson, Scott Rockenfield and Parker Lundgren announced on June 20 that they were parting ways with singer Geoff Tate and recruiting powerhouse vocalist Todd La Torre of CRIMSON GLORY as his replacement. The new QUEENSRŸCHE lineup has already performed live, having played two shows in their home city of Seattle under the name RISING WEST.

Tate revealed in a recent interview with RollingStone.com that he filed a lawsuit against his former bandmates on June 12 in King County Superior Court in the state of Washington in order to "sort out who is what, and who owns what, and that stuff." Tate is also attempting to get a court injunction against Wilton, Jackson and Rockenfield that would prevent them from using the name QUEENSRŸCHE for their new group.

On Monday, July 9, Wilton, Jackson and Rockenfield filed a response to Tate's motion for preliminary injunction and included individual declarations from all of the defendants supporting their position that Tate's motion should be denied.

In his sworn "reply declaration in further support" of his motion for preliminary injunction — which was filed this past Thursday, July 12 in the King County Superior Court in Seattle, Washington and obtained by BLABBERMOUTH.NETTate says, "Rockenfield, Jackson, and Wilton allege that they, together with Chris DeGarmo, started the band THE MOB. This is incorrect. They were not a band. They did not have a singer and they did not have a name. When I joined, we became a band and we agreed on a name, THE MOB, after a song released by the band BLACK SABBATH.

"Rockenfield, Jackson, and Wilton are also incorrect in alleging that I did not contribute to the making of our first record, the EP 'Queensrÿche'. I sang all the songs of the EP and with DeGarmo wrote what became the most popular song on the album, 'Lady Wore Black'. I also helped pay for the cost for the recording studio.

"From then until last month, when I was kicked out of the band, I have been the lead singer and predominant songwriter for the band. I have never quit the band or wanted to quit the band. And contrary to what Rockenfield, Jackson, and Wilton allege, I never threatened to quit the band. QUEENSRŸCHE has been my life.

"Rockenfield, Jackson, and Wilton allege that I did not want to share songwriting credit with them and that, following DeGarmo's departure, I began rejecting songs they had written choosing, instead, to work with outside musicians. These allegations are not true. I have been happy to share songwriting credit. That is evident from the songwriting splits in the spreadsheet attached as Exhibit A to my initial declaration. I even shared songwriting credit during the later albums, although Rockenfield, Jackson, and Wilton were not entitled to the credit. I agreed to share songwriting credit equally among all band members for the 'Q2K' release even though Rockenfield, Jackson, and Wilton did not participate in songwriting. Rockenfield also received 30 percent songwriting credit for two songs on the 'American Soldier' album although he did not contribute to the songwriting process. He merely played the drums on previous recordings of the two songs, when the writers of the songs (who had been hired by QUEENSRŸCHE to write songs for the album) recorded them for demos.

"Also, as stated in my earlier declaration, I began working with outside musicians because Rockenfield, Jackson, and Wilton were not contributing toward songwriting. I did not want to work with outside musicians. Doing so is not in the band's interests financially, since it costs the band money to hire outside musicians, or collaboratively, since it drives a wedge among the permanent band members. Just like I had done with DeGarmo and Wilton earlier on, I would have preferred to write songs with Rockenfield, Jackson, and Wilton, and repeatedly asked them for songs, but they did not provide the songs.

"Rockenfield, Jackson, and Wilton claim that I do not like the older songs in the QUEENSRŸCHE catalog and do not play them at QUEENSRŸCHE shows. That is not true. Those songs are a critical piece of the band's history and, unlike Rockenfield, Jackson, and Wilton, I contributed to writing those songs. I also like playing those songs at shows. Indeed, I cannot and do not decide by myself what songs get played at shows. As a band, we decide on a particular cross-section of songs to play for shows. Among those songs are always a number of songs from QUEENSRŸCHE's earlier records. Indeed, recent shows have focused exclusively on earlier releases. For a show last year in New York City, for example, we played every song on our second full-length album, 'Rage For Order', which was released in 1986. For a show in 2011, on an ocean cruise called ShipRocked, we played the entire 'Operation: Mindcrime' album. I am also attaching as Exhibits A and B hereto the set lists for two shows we recently did, which show that QUEENSRŸCHE was performing a wide selection of songs that cover its entire catalog.

"Rockenfield, Jackson, and Wilton also complain about a cabaret tour the band did in 2010. But until recently they had not complained about that tour. The idea for the tour began with Lars Sorensen, a former manager of QUEENSRŸCHE who was head of entertainment for Snoqualmie Casino. He asked us to do two shows for Valentine's Day and asked that they be 'special' or 'different.' He mentioned that another band had recently done a cabaret type show that had been successful. He offered QUEENSRŸCHE $50,000 per show, $100,000 total, which was significant, particularly since there would be no significant travel expenses. I discussed the cabaret idea with the band and they voiced no objections to the idea. Instead, their questions were limited to what they would be paid. The show was a success and the band agreed to do a tour of the cabaret style shows. We performed a total of 24 shows throughout 2010. Given the number of shows, the tour was very lucrative, especially considering that, in 2010, many bands were struggling to get any performances.

"Rockenfield, Jackson; and Wilton accuse of me of telling the audience at a concert that they 'suck.' But they take what I said out of context. I was not insulting the audience. Instead, I was trying to motivate or excite them. The show was the Rocklahoma festival in Oklahoma. It was May and it was very hot and QUEENSRŸCHE played late in the evening, after the fans had watched a number of other bands. QUEENSRŸCHE opened its set with a number of its older songs, including 'Damaged', 'I Don't Believe In Love', and 'Hit The Black'. 1 The fans were unresponsive. This has happened before and, when it occurs, as the singer, I try to motivate them to get more involved in the show. That is what I did here. I was trying to motivate them, inspire them to get more excited about the show.

"Rockenfield, Jackson, and Wilton allege that Susan Tate usurped control of the band. That is untrue. She reluctantly agreed to be our manager, and at half the pay of our other managers, only after QUEENSRŸCHE had problems with two other managers.

"In or around 2001, QUEENSRŸCHE was becoming dissatisfied with its manager at the time. QUEENSRŸCHE was interested in touring with two separate metal bands that were very popular at the time. Our manager told us that he had contacted them and, for one band, was waiting to hear back and, for the other, had been told the band was not interested. We contacted these bands directly, however, and were told that the conversations alleged by our manager had not occurred. Based on that, and other disagreements we had with our manager, the band members agreed to terminate its relationship with the manager.

"The next manager we hired, Lars Sorensen, quit. In response, Susan, who, by now, had been working as an assistant manager, was asked by Rockenfield to serve as the lead manager. Rockenfield's only question to Susan was whether she would continue to accept the five-percent fee she previously agreed to accept. This was less than half what other managers charge bands. She agreed. Rockenfield said he would ensure that Susan became QUEENSRŸCHE's manager. He went to the meeting and we all agreed she could be the band's manager. She continued to earn half what other managers get paid until she was fired by Rockenfield, Jackson and Wilton.

"Approximately one year prior to the termination of Susan as band manager, Michael Wilton came to me and the other band members, and said that he wanted to hire Paul Geary as the new manager for QUEENSRŸCHE. The band members all discussed it and we agreed that Susan was doing a good job and that the band did not need a new manager. Rockenfield and I called Paul Geary. During the call, Rockenfield did most of the talking. We told Geary that we were not interested in hiring a new manager and that Wilton had contacted him behind our backs. The decision was not just mine alone, as Rockenfield, Jackson, and Wilton now allege. The decision not to hire Paul Geary at that time was a band decision.

"I previously discussed the incident in Brazil when I punched Rockenfield and slapped Wilton. I was upset at the time, having been told that my wife and daughter had been fired, and that I was 'next.' I regret losing my temper and my actions are not acceptable. It is also very unlike me to act in this manner. I do not lose my temper, become loud or threatening, or hit people. People who know me describe me as even keeled, mild-mannered and easy-going. And once the incident in Brazil ended, it did not continue. I did not threaten Rockenfield, Jackson, and Wilton during or after the show in Brazil. I also did not threaten them at any point after that. Although I have no doubt it was upsetting to Rockenfield and Wilton, they were not injured. It was also clear that they were not and are not afraid of me. They did not press charges or request a restraining order or try to commence any other type of legal action. They performed two more shows with me in May 2012. I also do not believe that Rockenfield, Jackson, and Wilton kicked me out of the band based on what happened in Brazil. I think instead that they had planned on firing me since at least February 2012 and that this incident just gave them an excuse to do it.

"In an attempt to prove that I have been violent before, Rockenfield mentions an incident in 2007. But he does not disclose what caused it. At that time, QUEENSRŸCHE was on tour. When QUEENSRŸCHE is on tour, at every stop, it sets up a booth to sell QUEENSRŸCHE merchandise. The sale of merchandise goes through Queensrÿche Merchandising, Inc. with profits from the sale of merchandise being distributed among the band members. At a show in 2007, Susan noticed hanging from the merchandise booth drum sticks and drum heads signed by Rockenfield for sale. QUEENSRŸCHE didn't sell drum sticks and drum heads. Susan asked the man selling the merchandise about it, and he told her that Rockenfield had told him to sell the drum sticks and the drum heads and to give him the money. Rockenfield had not discussed this with the band first, and we did not know about it. It was unfair to the band because he was using valuable merchandise space and not sharing what he earned from the sales with the rest of the band. When the other band members learned what he had done, we were all upset. I tried to talk about it with Rockenfield. He was in his dressing room, sitting at his laptop. When I asked him about it, he would not even acknowledge that I was talking with him. He just kept staring at his laptop screen, indifferent about what he had done. Unable to get his attention, and becoming more and more upset about what he had done and his disregard for me, I shut the laptop screen down. I did not spit on him or push him, as Rockenfield now claims.

"As I mentioned in my earlier declaration, 'Operation: Mindcrime' was a concept album, a 'rock opera,' based on a story I wrote while I was living in Canada. The story was about a recovering drug addict, Nikki, who leaves mainstream society and joins a revolutionary group. When I first conceived of the story, I mentioned it to the other band members, but they did not like it. They eventually agreed to the idea and the album went on to go platinum, selling more than a million copies.

"In 2011, Zoetifex Studios in Pittsburgh became interested in producing an animated film based on the story of 'Operation: Mindcrime'. As a first step, Zoetifex wanted exclusive rights to option the story into a movie. That way, Zoetifex could begin searching for investors willing to invest in the making of the movie. They approached Neil Sussman, the attorney for QUEENSRŸCHE, and offered QUEENSRŸCHE money for the rights. But I owned the copyright to the story, not the band. I had conceived of the idea and had written the story. It was no different than how songwriting royalties are distributed. If you write the song, you get the songwriting royalties. Similarly, since I wrote the story, I owned the copyright for the story. QUEENSRŸCHE's attorney agreed that the story belonged to me and that I was solely entitled to any money paid by Zoetifex for the option rights. He informed Michael Kadrie of Zoetifex of his position. Mr. Kadrie agreed and Zoetifex paid me $10,000 for the exclusive rights to the 'Operation: Mindcrime' story. Rockenfield, Jackson, and •Wilton's contention that I tried to 'cut them out,' however, is false. In addition, as the contract that they provide to the Court shows, during the negotiation process, which was handled by Susan, Susan negotiated with Zoetifex that, if the movie was made, QUEENSRŸCHE would get $250,000 to write the score for the movie. Susan requested this because, at the time, Rockenfield was interested in writing scores for movies, and he told Susan that he would like to write the score for this movie. As a result, Susan got Zoetifex to agree to hire the band to write the score if the movie was made.

"Rockenfield, Jackson, and Wilton claim they first learned of the Zoetifex agreement after this litigation was commenced. They were aware of it well before that. It was discussed during our meeting in February 2012.

"In their opposition, Rockenfield, Jackson, and Wilton request a bond of $10 million based on the statements of Paul Geary that he can book five shows a week at $20,000 per show between now and the trial date. That equals $4.8 million a year just on touring for 12 months. Mr. Geary is a band manager. He is not a promoter. The distinction is key since a manager tries to sell the band to promoters and promoters are the ones who decide to book shows for bands. Mr. Geary can only speculate on what the band can do over the next year.

"To my knowledge, QUEENSRŸCHE has never generated nearly that much revenue merely from touring. And I am convinced that, in its current configuration, QUEENSRŸCHE will never generate much interest from promoters, let alone anywhere near the scale stated by Mr. Geary. Furthermore, if QUEENSRŸCHE played five shows a week, every week, between now and the end of the litigation, they will completely burn the market. They will have played every single venue, including the smallest bars and restaurants, which would be remotely interested in booking them. This would be not only in the United States, but around the world. As a result, when the litigation ends, and the Court decides how to distribute the assets of the QUEENSRŸCHE companies, including the band name, the band name will be stripped of almost all its value since the band will be unable to tour."

Funny how Geoff changed his story from his first declaration, where he claimed he did not punch Rockenfield. Since these are court documents, he committed perjury.

The truth is the Song "The lady wore black" is a former song (circa 1979) called Sherwood Forest (a sub division Bellevue Wa) It was co written by Tate and members of a band called Paradox. Of course the arrangement has some changes and the chorus was rephrased. The 1980 Paradox live version I have from the mercer-wood Shore Club (mercer Island Swim Club) sure sounds like "The lady wore black" Tate was fascinated by the death of Theresa Sterling, who's body had been found in the Bike trails 100 yards from the garage Paradox was practicing in winter 1979. His eyes were ablaze the day the dog dragged the skull from the woods. Wilton lived in this sub division as a Teen. Both DeGarmo and Wilton went to School with the guy that Murdered her. I won't drop the name, but if you look up Ann Rule True Crime stories, its all there. http://www.komonews.com/news/local/93751134.html Tate and his muse pulled and channeled so much energy from the woods where the freshly decomposing body laid. http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1314&dat=19791227&id=Qv1jAAAAIBAJ&sjid=S-4DAAAAIBAJ&pg=5025,6228897

Reading the declarations from the other guys but I couldn't even make it through this one. Just goes to show you that Tate's writing stinks. Did he hire and outside writer for this response?

Seriously though, submitting set-lists as evidence? Pu-lease. This just reeks of desperation.

Just go away Geoff, please just go.

Of course there are two sides to every story, but after reading it all I don't think this changes a thing and he just comes off as petty. I don't think any of them are angels, but nobody acted as psychotic as Tate.

I don't wish Tate any harm, I don't think his fans should drive him to suicide or anything, but let's face it: The jig is up! He did a good job for a few years, but now he should just leave the boys alone and go and do his own thing.

Maybe if he lays low for a while, there is a chance that the fans will forgive him. But it will take a while. He should just walk away right now, while he still has a little dignity left.

At no point does he deny the physical violence or the spitting, and instead offers excuses for why he was provoked into his actions. Geoff Taint is a classic sociopath who has no intellectual capacity to take responsibility for his own actions. Absolutely everything he does wrong is automatically someone else's fault.

The real battle, the legal struggle, is over the songwriting credits. This is why every band should have every person in the band on the credits for every song. Do you really think the guy writing the lyrics tells the drummer how to tap out the rhythm, or the guitar players how to strum their strings?

Geoff Taint wants to steal the band from the other original members. Typical Lead Singer Disease sufferer, thinks he is more important than all of the others, even though in this case they were all in the band before he was.

I'm siding with Geoff on this battle. Ever since DeGarmo left, I think the burden of generating new music has been on Tate. As he stated, for obvious reasons the best scenario would be to have the band as a whole writing everyting...but that obviously wasn't happening and he had to go get outside writers to help.

Geoff's angry outbursts were unacceptable (as he has now admitted), but I suppose I would be pissed at the others as well if they had told me I was being fired from a band I had been a part of for 30 years and wrote a majority of the lyrics for the songs.

This kind of reminds me how Dennis DeYoung got the shaft from STYX and how Steve Perry got f*cked over by Journey.

Disclose the names of the musicians who Queensryche hired to write the songs for the "American Soldier" and "Dedicated to Chaos" albums. Is the same songwriter team who wrote St Anger and Lulu?

You hire outside musicians, and your wife and other family members, when you are trying to cut the other members of the band out of the money. Unfortunately popular music has a long history of original members being forced into becoming employees within their own bands, when someone succeeds in taking over the band.

Fortunately the other guys wised up in time and did what they had to do. Had they not, the Taint family would have just merged Queensryche with Geoff Taint's solo career and they would have become backing musicians. I would argue that this had in fact already occurred, with their last studio album being the final proof.

Geoff is clearly a barefaced liar. I read all 3 members submissions to the court in full, and nowhere in those statements did I read anyone saying that Geoff didn't write anything for the first EP, so that's a huge lie right there.

Geoff has also admitted in public interviews that he does not really enjoy singing the older, and more metal influenced material live anymore. So he is lying again, trying to suggest he has no issues with singing the old stuff live.

As for the incident in Brazil, unfortunately for Geoff, there are scores of witnesses who can testify that what the 3 original members allege he did on that night is true. He is also undone by actual video footage clearly showing him spitting on Scott during the actual concert.

Geoff has clearly made up a pack of lies, as he knows that doing so, and getting a judge to believe them is his only chance of winning this case. There are 2 sides to every story, and now I have heard Geoff's, I am actually even more convinced than ever, that the 3 original members are the only ones being truthful in all this.

this entire drama saddens me. qr was one of my fav bands and even though their creative output has dried up recently they have always been great live. so reading through all this makes me think of how ultimately it seems all human relationships fail...BUT THEN IT HIT ME. queensryche are the masters of concept records...they never get much recognition or newsprint for this...what if what is going on is the genesis of simply the greatest concept record of all time....IN REAL TIME! The album will play out as a mirror to the band breaking up and todd la torre will sing the part of the antagonist of the album while tate will come in around song 3 or 4 down in the dumps and ultimately reclaim his throne by song 7. song 8 can be a rewritten and updated version of queen of the reich featuring tate drunk on the saxaphone....oik ok maybe not that part...but really...if queensryche was thinking mans metal than maybe all this going on is part of something bigger and ultimately genius! one can hope anyways!

I think the fans are overwhelmingly in support of the band continuing on without Geoff. Go away Tate and except reality that the band and fans no longer care for you or anything you have to say! It's over Geoff...move on!

if geoff is so damned proud of the job he did as a songwriter after degarmo left then let him have those songs to perform and only those songs and the other guys can only play the old songs!
as far as the name goes, let the guys use queensryche and geoff can call his band queensryche vista or something...

"Similarly, since I wrote the story, I owned the copyright for the story. QUEENSRŸCHE's attorney agreed that the story belonged to me and that I was solely entitled to any money paid by Zoetifex for the option rights."

This is clearly bullshit. If this was the case, why didn't the other guys know about it? If he owns the story (LOL RIIIIGHT) and everyone knows it, why did he feel the need to hide it from them?

Wanker.

I like how he goes low brow at the end, saying they'll kill the brand by playing gigs and will have to play in restaurants... What a stupid thing to say... The fucking irony to all this is, if he DID get custody of the name, he'd get a new band and tour fucking QUEENSRYCHE!

Wanker and hypocrite!

He's clearly lost his marbles.

Whoa, where to start.

Ok, well let's look into this "songwriting" debacle first and foremost.
In bands that one person writes the majority of the music, it usually states that in the credits. And usually, even the credits overstate the fact. "All songs written by Glenn Danzig" is one infamous example. Now I'm sure Glenn wrote ALOT of his own songs, but for example, in the John Christ/Rick Rubin era I am certain that there were other contributions from members, not that they were huge contributions as far as the songs themselves, but you get the sense they had some "interpretation" of the riffs that Glenn gave them.
Another thing is to consider Guns and Roses. A lot of their songs say the opposite, the songs have all the band members credited. Of course, this probably not 100 percent true, but when they signed a publishing deal, maybe that's the deal they agreed to (And thats actually pretty cool). Now on to Queensryche: some of the songs credit one member as a writer of the song. Some examples of this include Silent Lucidity (Chris Degarmo) and the Warning (Michael Wilton as far as I can recall). So why, if Geoff wrote most of the music, would some songs not even have his credit on them at all? WELL BECAUSE HE DID NOT WRITE THE MUSIC ITSELF! Its pretty obvious if you look at those two examples. He wrote or probably wrote some of the great vocal melodies (And if you read interviews, Chris did some of this too) but his statement as the "main songwriter" is pure bullshit, unless you say that lyrics=song. I never knew that lyrics make the song, especially since many Queensryche songs have long instrumental breaks and section. The only instrument I know of Geoff playing in Ryche is saxophone. And the riffs they play don't really sound like they come from sax, sorry Geoff lol. (kinda funny im now reading previous posts about the sax lol)..Now if Geoff can produce EVIDENCE that he wrote the majority of the songs, and if this goes beyond credits, then he'd have a case. But I'm willing to bet he'll come up a little dry in that area...Its not like the band King Diamond, where King records a bunch of demos of him playing stuff and singing stuff with a drum machine, he plays the songs to the guys, him and Laroque and maybe another guy put a few other things together, and voila, we have a King Diamond album! Its more like- there are songs on the Queensryche albums that various members, mostly Degarmo and then about 40 percent Wilton (in the classic period) wrote and collaborated with Tate on (obviously him writing lyrics and vocal melodies). It just makes me so sick that he keeps repeating this obvious bullshit. And yeah, they kinda enabled him, but I guess you can say the same of an abused wife "well she nagged him". That doesn't make it right! And the newer songwriting they came up with and submitted to Tate was probably rejected or told to be changed, and that's probably why they didn't write more on recent albums, band members can often use more subtle forms of manipulation to shut other members out of the songwriting. Tate didn't even need to actively stop them from writing, he just could have been subtle about it, and rejected what they came up with. I've been in 3 bands, so I know how this shit can happen.

... so Tate's response is to try and paint Rockenfield as being the bad guy?

Also, it wouldn't shock me if Paul Geary could get Queensryche booked on some big tours (he got Godsmack some major runs) that would bring in a lot more cash than playing a weak cabaret mess in a club somewhere.

We need a DeGarmo interview at some point.

That would be cool, but I think he probably just wants to stay the hell out of this mess, he has no stake in it now after all, unless he wants to return to the band eventually. But I can't see that happening since Parker appears to be cemented in now, or unless they want to have a 3 guitar attack like Maiden.

I would have to agree that DeGarmo would not want any of this to invade his life now... we will have to see what the court brings for judgement. I doubt they will do any big ARENA venues though... if they could I think they would have been with Tate in the front and that wasn't happening. They were not putting out any mainstream sound and I think the quantity of listeners in this genre are less than what everyone thinks there are. Did they ever do sellout shows like Maiden or Scorpions in their hey day? I doubt seriously even though I was and am a fan of all their older material... good luck to them all on this.

"Rockenfield, Jackson, and Wilton allege that they, together with Chris DeGarmo, started the band THE MOB. This is incorrect. They were not a band. They did not have a singer and they did not have a name. When I joined, we became a band and we agreed on a name, THE MOB, after a song released by the band BLACK SABBATH."

How it really happened, was the other 4 guys formed The Mob. Tate was in a band called Babylon, and filled in for a few shows with The Mob. Tate left The Mob after Babylon broke up, because he didn't want to sing metal.

The Mob continued, Tate was in the band Myth, with Kelly Grey. Geoff agreed to record a demo with The Mob, the music was already written. Tate wrote the lyrics. Tate was not planning on leaving Myth (you know, since he wasn't into metal...).

The Mob started shopping for record deals, and looking for a new singer. Their manager convinced them to change their name, and they decided on Queensryche. Tate only left Myth after the "Queensryche EP" became hot shit.

Tate says he paid for that first recording, but I'm not sure. According to what I've read, they already had time booked at the studio before he agreed to sing on it.

And the mob had that other singer before tate joined, iremember it all now..Tate is fucked unless he has some clear cut evidence of writing all "80 percent" of the riffs. I can imagine him sipping wine, playing all those chords to the warning in his bedroom in 1984 and dubbing them to 4 track and then saying Wilton wrote them lol...NOT.

I can't deny the guy does hold the cards re: the bands "vision" and songwriting credits.

I only take issue with the spitting onstage. That was uncalled for and negates a lot of good will he'd probably otherwise get from people in this situation. You don't see him explaining/defending the spitting in his response.

I'm not saying he's right or even a good person, but this is definitely more complicated than "our singer is a douche bag".

Shit that Tate keeps bringing up. "Waaahh they didnt like the cabaret and just told me now!", "waaaah they say i dont like the old songs which they didnt write". Oh wow, he just lied there. Clearly, Wilton had a lot of hand in the early material if you look at the songwriting credits.

He can't really make much of a case if he doesn't bring the issues that got him kicked out in the first place. Kinda vague if he says "well the cabaret tour was lucrative". Other than milking Mindcrime, and being critically panned as of late, what has Ryche done?

The whole debacle as far as them not wanting to contribute songs is ludicrous. If its not ludicrous, its probably more complicated than what "TAINT" stated. He probably occasionally encouraged them to write, but when they did he probably shot it down. I've been in bands where I have had to compromise with others, and I've been in situations where everything was shut down (Even in the same band, lol)...They probably went a long with a lot of Taint's requests, but at the same time, when they did contribute, they were told to change the stuff to "Fit" the flow of the album or something. Then eventually, (esp Wilton) stopped contributing all together. Tate could've done other types of manipulations towards the other guys too, who knows. But I tend to believe that there's a reason why Wilton's contributions dropped off after a while. There has to be reasons...but its not even the issue. The issue is Tate is a violent, manipulative, liar who is trying to rationalize the demise of a once great band..theres NO excuse for the violence, and telling people you wrote all of a band's music when you didn't. Case closed.

This whole thing has an "I'm embarrassed for you" vibe that makes it all extremely squirm-worthy.
I say despite how revolting this is, others can learn from it. What we're reading here isn't anything new--there's a lot of pettiness involved with music, especially when it turns into nothing more than a job. Plenty of bands go through this and worse.

Younger bands should take notes from this because rarely will you see such a blatant public display of a once-great band going down in flames. Think of this as a "Do Not" list and don't ever let "the job" get in the way of why you started playing together in the first place. If you're just in it for the money, leave. If you hate touring, leave. And if you're being "Tated" by someone in your band, do something about it fast and nip it in the bud. No reason to let things go on like this for years. Life is short and if you get to Queensryche's level, you've worked too hard to let this kind of shit happen.

Tate is signed to InsideOut now and Queensryche have an opportunity to prove themselves to be the writers they claim to be. I have no doubt they'll deliver. Time to move on and spare us the drama.

Just an aside--DeGarmo has been flying planes for awhile and is probably just glad to be miles above all this. Don't expect any statements or interviews from him. It's no longer his problem.

WRONG. Wilton wrote LOTS OF songs in 80s. Revolution Calling for instance, was his song. It was Tate who didn't write any music at all.

LSD is real, it's LEAD SINGERS'S DISEASE. they are a crazy bunch, can't believe Tate spit on Rockenfeld during a recent show, that's not a good things for what few fans you have to see. I know someone who toured with Queensryche in the 80's, they said Tate was a MAJOR COKEHEAD 24/7.

All I can say is I unfortunately saw Queensryche last year. Taint's voice was so bad we left 1/2 way through. The older songs he couldn't hit any of the notes and continually held the mic to the crowd so that they sang the songs. Horrible. The band will do much better with a singer who can handle the demand of higher octave singing. Taint is simply holding onto something that he can no longer do.
