DUFF MCKAGAN'S LOADED Joined By SEX PISTOLS Bassist At CBGB FESTIVAL (Video) - July 13, 2012
SEX PISTOLS bassist Glen Matlock joined DUFF MCKAGAN'S LOADED on stage last weekend at New York's CBGB Festival to help commemorate the history of one of underground music's most hallowed institutions, CBGB. Like the former GUNS N' ROSES and current VELVET REVOLVER bassist, Matlock played guitar for a version of THE STOOGES' "I Wanna Be Your Dog". Fan-filmed video footage of the performance can be seen below.

Duff talked about how special it was to him to be included in this CBGB Festival celebration and how he played the original club with GUNS N' ROSES back in 1987.

"Without CBGB allowing [underground] bands to play," Duff said during the show, "it's arguable whether bands like METALLICA and GUNS N' ROSES would exist."

That ol' fat guy let a bunch of social misfits get in his club and play originals that no one else could stand.

Its cool for Duff to love NY/English/LA Punk, but he's got to make more of a personalized sound at this point. I also am not a fan of bassists playing guitar. Gets to me.

Duff's the coolest and will continue to bring his best to the stage as long as he lives.

Yeah I sort of agree with the bassist on guitar issue. It bothers me a little, even though it shouldn't. I get it when a band may lose their guitarist and the bassist will make the switch to accomodate the band's needs, but other than that eh.

Correct me if I'm wrong though, but wasn't Duff playing guitar for the Seattle hardcore outfit The Fartz before he got the gig in Guns? Can't remember if it was bass or guitar.

To be honest I'd rather hear Duff play guitar than sing though. Always hated his shitty vocals, especially on the Fear and Misfits covers off Spaghetti Incident. When it comes down to doing a punk rock song I understand that fully that vocals are not always gonna be top-notch, but some guys pull off the punk rock voice, and others (like Duff), just sound mentally challenged.

And your crazy if you don't like Duff's voice. Have you heard his first studio album 'Believe in Me'? Amazing.

So does that mean that "Belsen Was A Gas" is the only Sex Pistols song you know? It's the only one on which he played.

Sid may have played bass on the song Bodies. I don't know one way or the other what the truth is about this. Look into it yourself if you are interested.

I agree with your astute comments on Duff's voice. I liked his subdued vocals when singing "Its So Easy" and other GNR/VR tunes. He doesn't need to be a typical loud lead vocalist.

Less is more, in his case. Loaded sounds much better than his vocals in the 90's. Kind of adapting the early 80's LA punk sound.

Duff apparently played drums, guitar, bass, etc. in other bands. Who knows why, but he seems awkward with a guitar. This interview gets into it.

No it doesn't mean that this is the only song I know. The Sex Pistols were far better live than they were on record anyways.
