Joey DeMaio has endorsed the campaign for the adoption of stray dogs launched in Bulgaria's capital Sofia.
Over 10,000 stray dogs are roaming the streets of Sofia, according to a former employee of the
Ecobalance municipal company.
Prior to being re-elected at the end of October 2011, Sofia Mayor
Yordanka Fandakova vowed to "cut down in half the number of stray dogs in the Bulgarian capital the next two years."
On Friday,
DeMaio and
Fandakova visited the Seslavtsi dog shelter in the capital.
"There are stray dogs all over the world, but it is important that you have been taking measures to tackle the problem,"
DeMaio told
Fandakova, as cited by the
Bulgarian Telegraph Agency.
Aggressive stray dogs are believed to have been responsible for killing two elderly men since the beginning of 2012.
