PANTERA's Final Three Albums To Be Reissued On Vinyl - July 10, 2012
Earlier this year, Rhino unveiled the 20th-anniversary edition of PANTERA's "Vulgar Display Of Power", which featured the debut of the incendiary lost track "Piss". Following up on "Vulgar"'s success, Rhino continues to honor PANTERA's legacy as one of metal's most influential bands by offering the Texas quartet's final three releases on 180-gram vinyl.

Presented in gatefold jackets, "The Great Southern Trendkill", "Official Live: 101 Proof" and "Reinventing The Steel" will be available July 24 from retail outlets, including Pantera.com and Rhino.com. The first two albums are double LPs and available for a suggested price of $24.98 each, while "Steel" will be issued as a single LP for $17.98.

This vinyl release of "Trendkill" is different from an earlier version that was issued as a single LP without the track "Suicide Note Pt. I". To include the song for this new release and ensure ultimate sound quality, Rhino expanded the album to a double LP.

Recorded over four years (1996-2000), these two studio albums and live collection represent the final three releases from PANTERA — singer Philip Anselmo, guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, bassist Rex Brown and drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott.

The follow-up to the classic "Far Beyond Driven", "The Great Southern Trendkill" is the group's fourth platinum album, peaking at No. 4 on the Billboard chart. It yielded three singles, "Drag The Waters", "Suicide Note Pt. I" and "Floods", the latter an epic track that features one of Dimebag's defining guitar solos.

The following year, the band returned with its first live album, the gold-certified "Official Live: 101 Proof". Recorded during the tour for "Trendkill", the collection captures the group at the peak of its live prowess as it grinds and grooves through many of its greatest songs, like "Walk", "Cowboys From Hell" and "Cemetery Gates", as well as "Dom/Hollow", which combines the tracks "Domination" and "Hollow". Along with the live recordings, the release also includes two studio recordings, "Where You Come From" and "I Can't Hide".

The group's final studio album, "Reinventing The Steel" was certified gold, peaking at No. 4 on the Billboard charts. Along with the singles "Revolution Is My Name" and "I'll Cast A Shadow", the album's other standout tracks include "Death Rattle" and "Goddamn Electric", which features a guest guitar solo by SLAYER's Kerry King.

Really enjoy listening to The Great Southern Trendkill, probably the most diverse album they ever put out.

...Until they got eaten and resembled big piles of dreadlocks! Vinyl has a great audio quality, unless the recording came from a digital copy, then it wouldn't matter. Still kind of cool though. I saw Pantera 8-9 times, every time they'd come within 300 miles. I've never felt the same way about a band before, I'd listen to a Pantera song/solo and the hair would stand up on my arms. Must have been the time period I was living in too, all young and in my teens and crazy haha !

Three great albums, no doubt. But I wonder if this is a valid idea in terms of sales/revenue. How many fans own record players? I'd say it's a small percentage.

It's easy to regard Pantera's peak as Vulgar Display of Power. It was. But each album after had some great shit. Trendkill is monstrous. The live album is a fucking riot! When they tear into 5 Minute Alone... one of the best live recordings ever.

I saw Pantera a lot of times too. The last time was here in Osaka on the Trendkill tour. Wait - maybe it was the Reinventing The Steel tour.... anyway, they played a place that held about 2000 people, The sound was pristine - and they fucking destroyed.

How sad that Pantera was ground to a halt by a maniac with a gun while bands like Manowar continue to spew their worthless crap.

Dime, we hardly knew ye.

Actually not a theory... anyone with a brain and the ability to observe could see Phil change from outside of the band during the course of time. Starting with Power Metal thru Vuglar, dude was extremely humble, even dorky sometimes (see his impression of Mike Muir on the Cowboys home video)... somehow by Trendkill and Steel he turned into this Manson-looking psycho-wanna-be "I'm the toughest most badass fucker on the planet"-type of asshole. He really turned me off to the band after that.

That was when the heroin took over and he didn't even practice with the band - hell, the last album he mailed in, recorded the vocals entirely separate from the band. Really too bad.

Kiss isn't even a real band. If they were they wouldn't have had to resort to putting out a completely fake live album when their 1st three albums tanked.

Wake the fuck up.

WHAT? These are not their first 3 albums. Fucking idiots.

Metal Magic
Projects In The Jungle
I am The Night

Those are the first 3 albums. no matter how bad some may think the early Pantera era was, it existed. It's a shame that the bad could never just own up to it instead of ignoring it.

I absolutely love Phil's rant about 'heavy music being dead and gone..' it gives me chills when I hear it. I was there a couple times on that tour and they were the baddest ass show I ever went to hands down.

Love and Respect PanterA.

A skin head in his underoo's jumping through a bonfire. Is he holding a bottle, severed genitals, probably a dead possum he's taking home for his yung uns...

All it needs is a couple of overweight, badly tattooed 45 year old bleach haired uncle touchy victims on a pole and a monster truck jumping a moonshine still and the image is complete... maybe Ned Beatty being cuddled while he makes farm animal noises.

The first batch were not very good; expensive, heavy vinyl, double LPs, but not well mastered (IMO). Not to mention pressing quality problems.
the original vinyl of Trendkill is very good - much more open-sounding than the CD. I hope they will use compentent mastering/cutting engineers, highest-quality source materials, and best-possible mastering/cutting chain. If not, there's no point, just snake-oil.

There are some good Rhino vinyl reissues, though. I stand by the Black Sabbath reissues, which many don't like, Van Halen and the Ramones.

Anyone who thinks listening to a drunken Phil attempt to sing live on record is a good way to spend some money is crazy. Don't get me wrong Pantera was awesome and could put on a show but Live 101 was a terrible production.
