METALLICA Teams Up With VANS To Honor 30th Anniversary Of 'Kill 'Em All' - July 10, 2012
According to Kicks On Fire, the new collaboration between METALLICA and Vans — one of the world's leaders in the shoe and apparel market — is slated for release next year, honoring the 30th anniversary of the band's first studio album, "Kill 'Em All". The "Kill 'Em All" pack will consist of both the Vans Slip On and Sk8 Hi, with each one dressed in the hand and hammer design used for the cover art. Done in red, white and black, the vibrant kicks will give anyone instant rock-star status.

Originally issued on July 25, 1983 through the independent label Megaforce Records, "Kill 'Em All" was recorded in two weeks on a miniscule budget in upstate New York. Although only 1,500 copies were initially pressed, the album was reissued by Elektra Records after the band signed to that label in 1984 and has since been certified triple platinum for sales of more than three million copies.

The original title of "Kill 'Em All" was "Metal Up Your Ass".

The album's opening cut, "Hit the Lights", was the first song that frontman James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich wrote together after forming METALLICA. An early version of the track appeared on the 1982 compilation "Metal Massacre".

Lead guitarist Dave Mustaine was replaced by Kirk Hammett shortly before recording commenced, although Mustaine still has several writing credits on the disc and went on to form MEGADETH.

A number of songs from the album are still part of METALLICA's set list to this day, including "The Four Horsemen", "Seek and Destroy" and "No Remorse".

METALLICA has since gone on to become one of the biggest rock bands in the world, selling tens of millions of copies of its eight studio albums, including 15 million alone of 1991's self-titled "black album." The band's ninth effort, "Death Magnetic", arrived in 2008.

In 2008, Metal Blade Records owner and CEO Brian Slagel conducted interviews with James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich to coincide with the 25th anniversary of "Kill 'Em All". Watch the six-and-a-half-minute clip below.

Vans definitely kill my feet, no matter how cool they might look.

I agree 100%: very cool shoes (well, maybe not THIS particular pair), but they're really uncomfortable. Would much rather wear Converse Chuck Taylor--or real sneakers.

I really like the treads on them and with the mesh, it keeps my feet cool but they do get wet easy. I always wore boots for hiking and trails, but it's an all around shoe. Bought my first pair in May and never going back.

A bunch of millionaires playing Metallica songs is not the same thing as actually being Metallica. Someone should tell Metallica to stop milking Metallica!

I agree that when it was released Kill 'Em All was a breath of fresh air, but has anyone actually played it recently ? Give it a spin, I did last night. It has Not stood the test of time well, the production is muddy the songs are lousy and the overall sound is insipid. Slag me off all you want but I have ears and i'm using them, and if y'all were honest with yourselves you'd agree with me. Marvellous in it's day, but shite in the present.

Funnily enough I listened to it the other day and thought it absolutely slayed, a firm reminder of why I cared about Metallica in the first place, it's an awesome album!

On the other hand, sentences like "the vibrant kicks will give anyone instant rock-star status" make me want to punch someone in the face....

I never did understand the appeal of Kill Em All and I love Metallica. As far as I am concerned, Metallica didn't really become Metallica until Ride The Lightning. I also agree KEA is really a period piece and doesn't transcend time that well.

Metallica is the first band ever to sell merch? C'mon guys, Kiss made coffins! And Dimebag was buried in one of them... What the hell is wrong with Metallica selling shoes? We're talking about an album the re-defined an era in Thrash Metal history. Whether you resent the fact that they're popular, there's no denying the enormous contribution Metallica has made to the genre

Check YOUR music history.

Ace Of Spades was a thrash song - 1980

Fast as a shark was a thrash song - 1982

Where do you think James & Lars stole the idea ?

Yes KEA is cheesy. It was the work of teenagers from 30 years ago, so obviously the lyrics are dumb.

But it sounds so good, I just love the sound of it, vocals and solos especially.

I mean, most of music from that time was cheesy as shit too. Just listen to Slayer's first album, the drums are produced disco-style, sounds like crap, and the theatrics they had at the time are just laughable. Diamond Head... that's one band I'll never understand. GAY AS SHIT singer, dated production, total cheese fest. Metallica got good when they stopped taking inspiration from them.

Are they going to play the whole album live next year and will they make a tour out of it? I do hope so... it would be the first time since the deception that was St. Anger that i'm actualy looking forward to anything Metallica related.

Slayer's Vans looked waaaay cooler. Can't see anyone wearing these, but rather sitting on a shelf as a "limited edition collectors item" with a production run of 4.5 million.

I'm a massive Metallica fan and defend (most of) the stuff they do. But, saying you'll get 'instant rockstar status' by wearing these shoes is laughable at best.

Release a huge sounding album again, but don't use the turds Rubin and Fidelman and maybe , just maybe I'll buy your shitty shoes.....

As harsh as it sounds, as a long time Metallica fan this has really offended me.
