More Than 100 LAMB OF GOD Fans Turn Out For 'Free Randy Blythe' Vigil - July 8, 2012
According to Richmond Times-Dispatch , more than 100 LAMB OF GOD fans gathered on Brown's Island in Richmond, Virginia earlier today (Sunday, July 8) in support of the band's jailed singer Randy Blythe, who is being held on manslaughter charges in the Czech Republic.

"This really brings it home," said LAMB OF GOD guitar player Willie Adler, who made an appearance at the event. "It's nice to see all different walks of life here. It's not just long-haired metal fans."

Adler said the band wasn't ready to publicly discuss anything just yet but that its day would come soon.

"We're not quite sure what's happening now, so we don't want to do anything to jeopardize it," he said. "But we hope to know something, maybe in a week."

Adler's father-in-law, Harry Hopkins, told the Richmond Times-Dispatch that the entire band was met at the Prague airport by armed forces on June 27 and was taken into custody. After some discussion, U.S. embassy personnel were able to get four of them free. They were told to leave the country immediately.

"They're very upset about that," Hopkins said. "They would've wanted to stay with him."

The vigil organizer Tommy Streat, a friend of Blythe, told WWBT, the NBC-affiliated television station for Richmond, Virginia, "I know in my heart of hearts that Randy should not be in jail and the way he helps other people beyond the means most would go. I think it's ridiculous that he's in jail and I think we need to get him back on this ground in Richmond. And until he's here, we're gonna be his voice. We're gonna talk. We're gonna get loud. . . Randy's voice has been lost and we're getting it back. If it was Justin Bieber, everybody would be talking about it."

Check out photos of today's "Free Randy Blythe Vigil" at this location.

LAMB OF GOD set up a fund to help pay Blythe's legal expenses. A statement on the band's Facebook page reads, in part, "As many of you know, Randy is being held in Czech jail for a crime we believe he did not commit. We are still learning about the legal system there and the situation is fluid. We have retained local legal counsel, have support from the U.S. embassy and we are flying over additional lawyers to try and assure that Randy has the best representation possible. As many of you have pointed out, the simple fact is that the legal fees are adding up very quickly."

Are you calling this a murder?? I can't really tell what your stance is on this subject by this comment, but I will tell you that I am appalled at the majority of blabberidiots here that do not come to the defense of a fellow metalhead that is being unjustly accused of manslaughter. This was nothing more than an unfortunate accident that could have happened to any of us in a mosh pit. We should all be standing behind Randy right now.

Thinking Prague is "backwards-ass" and likes to rip off foreigners (OK there might be some truth in the last part, since it is after all a top tourist destination).

Pray tell, how would the NYPD have reacted if I played a gig in New York, got involved in a physical confrontation with a guy and then he died shortly afterwards from wounds that - to all intents and purposes - I may have inflicted? You think they'd just let me walk onto a plane and sod off? Well if it was just someone poor and unimportant they probably wouldn't bat an eyelid, but in the rest of the first world you can actually be arrested for a crime EVEN IF your victim was some nobody and you were a "celeb". I know... crazy, right?

I'm not a LOG fan but have been a metalhead for forty yeears. Some of the negative comments on here about this incident make me ashamed of this fact. The whole incident is a tragedy. A kid loses his life and Randy gets accused of his death on the thinnest of cicumstantial evidence. Then you have dipshits posting some of the foulest hate towards him and the other band members. I bet if it was their asses in jail, in a country that sounds dodgy at best you'd see them for the scared little babies they really are.

The LOG moron singer and you dumb ass sheep that are following him believe he should be able to shove a young man to his death and serve no prison time. Are you mental?

Randy was never in fear of his life and by all accounts this seems to have been an accident. THAT DOESN'T MATTER in any country or shouldn't. Randy did it. Randy killed a man. Randy needs to serve prison time. The only question should be exactly what to charge him with.

If the rest of you ego'd out musicians worry someone might jump on your stage then hire s roadie for dirt cheap to tour with you to escort any excited fans off your stage. Give the fan a t shirt and STFU.

Not a big fan of Bon Jovi but I've seen video of both male and female fans jump on the stage run right for Jon hug him and get kindly escorted off. Granted the LOG moron singer will never be as famous as someone like that but I'm just making a point.

Randy could have handled this differently. From what I've read the fan never touched him but Randy being a dick shoved him and caused his death. Randy should and hopefully will pay for his actions by serving a long prison sentence. I think too many of you either drink or have done too many drugs and you're not thinking clearly.

Prison for Randy.

I've been following this discussion since the story broke and have formulated a few thoughts that I'm sharing largely for my own edification.

First, I'm a lawyer. Though I admittedly know nothing about Czech law, these charges wouldn't stick for a second in the U.S. The video evidence shows nothing conclusive. Further, who's to say that the fatal injury didn't happen at some other point in the evening? There are legal principles called ” assumption of risk” and ” contributory negligence” that are applicable here-- i.e., metal shows can be violent and when you run on the stage acting like an , bad things can happen.

Second, what's with all the hate for Blythe and LOG? He seems like a decent, well liked family guy who puts his all into his music. LOG is solid band. For those of that say they're not ” real metal,” what is your definition of ” real metal”? My guess is that it's anyone who doesn't actually sell records. Come on-- we're not talking about Korn or Shitknot!

Third, so what if they set up a legal defense fund? My guess is that you think these guys are living in mansions and Manhattan penthouses. I hate to break it you, but they're not. If Blythe makes $200k a year, that is very good, but it's not an absurd amount of money. In fact, I can name at least 12 people at my mid-sized office who make well over $200k and they just shuffle papers and delegate work. People much more wealthy than Randy Blythe have gone broke paying legal fees.

The people you are referring to that speak of "real metal" are likely fans of underground death and black metal and nothing else. It seems to be really popular internet protocol to be "underground only" if you are into metal. Want to experience what I'm talking about? Make a new topic on here that states "Lamb of God is a much better band than Sarcofago ever was!!!" and watch the responses. The fact is, on most message boards, any mainstream metal act is usually shit on in favor of underground, bestial, black, death ect (read HHR and NWN bands)... Now the fact is, I like both of these styles of music, which is also forbidden! People suck dude. A lot of metal fans have really closed minds.. That's just the way it is.

Good post. Lamb of God/Burn the Priest was LOVED when they came out and was called the second coming of American metal, etc. Their talent garnered fans, which made them mainstream, therefore tough loser metal heads don't like them anymore. It's only metal to like what others don't! When will we all learn this lesson. It's not the talent that matters, its the obscurity...<end sarcasm>

I remember on one of the LOG dvds them saying that they never really had that much home town support. I guess that is still the case. Just because people sign some online petition to do something does not mean they will live up to it. Most people are too lazy and into their world to stand up for something and someone they believe in. I would like to think that in my home town of Philly there would be a lot more support for Randy, but who knows? There is some lazy self centered assholes here to that would rather sit on the couch and scratch their ass then support a cause. They have always had a strong fan base here even going back to the Burn the Priest days.

I still do not get the people that condemn this man. If you actually research and look at the video and read articles(not from sites like this), then you will see that the fan was guided off stage. He seems to be running toward the crowd while Randy throws him by his hair(he would have to be one strong man to throw a grown man that far with one hand by his hair) and also shoved by security. Then the fan gets on stage again and a security guard tosses him off stage where he falls in a real bad manner. The fan then dies anywhere from 2 weeks to a month later and it seems Randy nor the band had any clue that someone had died from an injury sustained at their concert. This situation could have been handled way better by the authorities, but here we are. Don't just read the headlines. Also I feel that the LOG camp has handled this situation with dignity. Free Randy and keep Daniels family in your thoughts.

That is absolutely true and i know people that used to make twice as much as that that went down the tube financially due to various financial and legal reasons.

200k is a lot of money compared to the average person, but unless we break it down, we don't really know where it's coming from. For example, if he is making that through a combination of record sales, merch and touring, it isn't going to last forever. We have no idea about his savings, asset portfolio etc.

The only time you can feel secure making 200,000 a year is if you have a balanced asset porfolio that is yielding a solid return. Even then it's no guarantee, but i'd rather be making money off property and investments than something like a band, that's for sure.

I think the issue is bigger than having closed minds though. It's about the whole concept of recognition and cultural capital. The reason underground fans are snobs is because most of the real artistic developments happen in the underground, and later get watered down into the mainstream. This isn't always the way but it often is. So the idea that the underground is paramount is always going to have currency. This doesn't mean that any old shit band that records in the privacy of their own bedroom is better than Lamb Of God, but there is often the feeling that bands like Slipknot or Lamb Of God do well in the marketplace, and thats should be enough for them, in terms of being a sufficient enough reward for their efforts.

There is no need to pretend that they are just as good as say, Agalloch or Deathspell Omega, or even Meshuggah--who are successful as well as innovative--because that doesn't sit right with people. It has a lot of to do with the idea of achieving justice and fairness in the artistic/creative world, but it also has to do with aesthetics. Broad based metal sounds and feels different to niche metal, in the same way that a Spielberg or Michael Bay film is generally not considered to have the same artistic worth as a film by Haneke or Apichatpong Weerasethakul. There is a tendency for connoisseur types to relate to the specific rather than the general.

Yes it is a form of elitism, but it's not based on nothing. Like yourself i enjoy plenty of mass market metal bands too, but i certainly don't rate them on the same level as the more progressive and artistic bands.

This is, sadly, what most of the metal community has become: just a bunch of kids who have no respect for anything but themselves and think that they're the only owners of absolute truth and that it's cool to laugh at things like this.
This sad incident has nothing to do with Randy or the band; whether you like them or not, it's already been shown in the videos of the event that he didn't push the poor kid off the stage, yet he's being incriminated. And yet, people here keep on hating on Randy and assuming he's a murderer. I'd like to see how scared would the haters be if this happened to you. Like I said, in situations like these I feel ashamed to be part of the same community as these lifeless people who call themselves metalheads. Fortunately, not every metalhead is a douche yet, there's a bit of hope for us maybe.

100% agreed.
Many kids seem to mistake rebellious or "Metal" attitude with just being an immature dick. There are not many things as pathetic as an uneducated, unreflected, intolerant, and in most cases obviously still virgin loser talking shit from his mom's basement. Of course that's just a cliché, too, but it does come to mind.
I don't have a real opinion on the Blythe case, though. I just hope it turns out to be an accident.

If thousands had shown up: "Bunch of teenie boppers Hot Topic kids showed up to support their favorite fake metal band!"

100s show up: "Haha they have no fans!" (so shouldn't that be 'metal'?)

So what would the perfect, non-mainstream amount of support have been? Answer: 550

any type of "snob" is one that should be exterminated. Metal elitism is a plague. Like music for the music not for the "status". I learned that in the '80s. If I like it, I listen to it. If I don't, I turn it off. I don't care if the band has 50 fans or 10,000,000.... and I use those numbers because I have plenty of bands that fit both categories.

Please everybody, so much hate and stupidity on this board.

Lets all hope this gets ruled an accident as there's no real evidence that Randy or the security guard are responsible for the kid's death.

And to all idiots on here, show some respect! You obviously don't have a clue how serious the situation is

LOG fans are reminding me right now of Penn State/Paterno apologists. It's called accountability for your actions, ladies. Look into it.

I was looking at the wrong vid. My bad. If this is all there is to this event then he truly is being wrongly accused and held. What happened there happens at every single metal show. Dudes jump onstage, and get pushed back off.

You should submit this to the Drudge report "SEND NEWS TIPS" suggestion box.

Regardless of how you feel about Drudge, with 030,026,046 hits in the past 24 hours, this has tremendous potential to raise awareness.

100 nutswingers showed up? The guy with the iPad looks like a homosexual.

Why doesn't the Mazer $$$$$ Management put on a car wash for Randy, or a bake sale? Probably do more good than that pathetic 100 flash on that showed up to play with an iPad.
