NIKKI SIXX Talks New MÖTLEY CRÜE Music, Touring And SIXX: A.M. - July 7, 2012
Nikki Sixx, founder/bassist/songwriter of the world-renowned band MÖTLEY CRÜE and chart-topping act SIXX: A.M., took part in an online chat yesterday (Friday, July 6) with Best Buy's "Unboxed" chat series.

When asked about how soon MÖTLEY CRÜE might release a new album, Sixx explained, "We're writing … and when the songs are ready, we'll record them and how we will release them, we don't know, because everything is changing and we kinda like it."

He added, "How we release music in the future, whether it's song by song, EP by EP, album by album, or soundtracks to movies, we don't know … we're open and excited about our future and in no rush to release music just to release music."

On the topic of how he and his bandmates approach the look, flow, and aesthetic of the live MÖTLEY experience, Nikki said, "As a whole, MÖTLEY CRÜE is always involved in all the visualization of our live productions, but it seems that a lot of the core ideas do flow from me and Tommy [Lee, drums]. All band members have a speciality that they do within the bands, and I think one of the things that me and Tommy are best at is thinking outside the box."

Regarding whether SIXX: A.M. has any plans to embark on a tour, Sixx said, "All the members of SIXX: A.M. are committed and want to tour but, between MÖTLEY CRÜE, GUNS N' ROSES [which features SIXX: A.M. guitarist DJ Ashba] and James' [Michael, vocals] production work, it's extremely difficult to find a time that we would all be available. But, I want to let fans know that it is a priority and we want it to happen in the biggest of ways."

Earlier in the year, MÖTLEY CRÜE entered drummer Tommy Lee's studio called The Atrium in Calabasas, California to begin recording a new song, "Sex", that will be released to coincide with the band's upcoming summer co-headlining tour with KISS.

Written when the band was together during their residency in Las Vegas last February, "Sex" is the first studio track from the CRÜE since their June 2008 release of "Saints Of Los Angeles".

"Sex" will debut on Friday, July 13 on SiriusXM and be available on Tuesday, July 17 — three days before the tour begins.

Speaking to VH1 Radio Network's Dave Basner in March, Sixx stated about the band's new track, "It sounds very much like it's off of the first record [1981's 'Too Fast For Love']. And that was definitely on purpose. I've been writing very simple riffs for the last year and focusing on how these riffs would work for Vince [Neil, vocals], basically, and took it in the studio with Tommy and Mick [Mars, guitar] and the thing just came alive."

Can't wait for the new single. If it don't sound old school, I'm done.

The only way I am interested in this is if it is stripped-down hard rock (not radio pop) that has been written by Mick, Tommy & Nikki. No slick overdubs, no song doctors, no DJ Ashba, etc. Just songs written by the Crue doing it like a BAND is supposed to. Vince singing?...well, it is what it is, but if it tastes like Too Fast For Love from an adult's perspective, I'm in...

Any new music from the Crue and i'm definately interested. Don't hate, but they're one of my favorite bands of all time.

"we're open and excited about our future and in no rush to release music just to release music."

----

aren't bands supposed to release music just because they want to release music ??

Motley was once a band.....now, they don't even want to release music for the sake of releasing music

what a joke they and the industry in general has become

I've sort of taken about 2 years off from listening to M.C., but then again, they haven't whetted my appetite with new (Good) music in many years, either. So am I excited about (putting out) 1 song, not really. I guess it's better than nothing. At least KISS is following their release with a full album in October or so. I think they'd have more relevance with an album out soon, not just 1 song, just my opinion. It's not like they're gonna lose money, I don't think (if it doesn't sell so well). Doesn't sound too confident to me.

Wasn't the last album almost written by just outside writers and still sucked anyway. I'm not expecting much.

Definitely going to check that out. Motley Crue have always been one of those bands that I was just "fine" with. No more/No less. If they're on, sweet; but I don't throw their albums on too often. I've enjoyed every album they released for what it was, and I often liked the heavier songs more. Mick's guitar has a heavier sounding crunch to it, so the less-glam type riffs are even more enjoyable.

I thought "The Saint's of Los Angeles" album was a great release from beginning to end. It definitely exceeded my expectations, that's for sure. The album also had great production, I thought.

Although the members of this band seem to be incredibly huge douches (with the exception of Mick), they write some good songs and made right business decisions to stay relevant for so long after the 80's-era style faded out. They've always been above the hair metal scene musically, IMO. Although I don't mind Poison's music, 98% of their music sounds incredibly weak compared to Crue's tunes. Despite the obvious similarities, and many anthem-like songs involving sex; they've kept a darker style than most of the other glam bands. Check out the riffs in songs like "Bitter Pill", "Enslaved", and "Smoke the Sky". It echoes a sound close to that of Dimebag's (not comparing talent's or anything like that...They're both exceptional guitarists, and the most humble out of the band's they've played in...that's for sure. But I'm talking about some of his style/sound/tone being in Mick's riffs.).

I have this horrid feeling that this "Sex" song is going to be something like Theory of a Deadman or something. A regular rock-radio-pattern song with cheesy lyrics...oh, I hope not. Just give us some new material that you're not shoving out for the radio or a concert anthem, and most of the fan's will be satisfied.

Curious question. I'm aware that 99% of Blabbermouth's HATED the nu-metal movement, and have zero respect for artists like Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Kid Rock, Primer 55, CrazyTown, etc...; but what did most of you think of Tommy's first complete solo record, "Never A Dull Moment"? It had one or two sappy-ish type songs on it for the radio, but I enjoyed the shit out of that record in high school. I haven't spun it many times since then, but I thought he was coming up with some fresh stuff. Of course, his second and last solo record, "Tommyland" proved that was short-lived. It became his shot at #1 hits and pop star stuff, but he tried too hard...what a disappointment from the first album that was. Hoping the new song kicks ass, but I won't hold my breath.

Doesn't sound like they're planning to record and release a new album anytime soon....just a single that they've been hyping for 6 months". Too bad cause Saints is their best complete album since Shout. A little too much pro tools but a strong, guitar driven album never the less.

I believe the should go back to the sunset strip and fill the void left by the mighty steel panther, who have graduated on to bigger and better things. I'm sure the gracious guys in SP will give MC some tips on how to do it right.
