RANDY BLYTHE Vigil Organizer Expecting More Than 1,000 Attendees - July 6, 2012
LAMB OF GOD fans have scheduled a vigil for jailed singer Randy Blythe, who is being held on manslaughter charges in the Czech Republic. The informal vigil is scheduled for 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday (July 8) on Brown's Island in Richmond, Virginia. One of the band's guitarists, Willie Adler, is expected to attend.

"It's a sign of unity," organizer Tommy Streat, a friend of Blythe, told the Richmond Times-Dispatch. "There's been very little mainstream news coverage. Unless there's more awareness, this could be dragged out for a really long time."

Streat told the Richmond Times-Dispatch he initially expected 100 to 150 people to attend, but that based on response to his Facebook post of the event, he now thinks more than 1,000 people could show up.

"I know in my heart of hearts that Randy should not be in jail and the way he helps other people beyond the means most would go," Streat told WWBT, the NBC-affiliated television station for Richmond, Virginia. "I think it's ridiculous that he's in jail and I think we need to get him back on this ground in Richmond. And until he's here, we're gonna be his voice. We're gonna talk. We're gonna get loud. . . Randy's voice has been lost and we're getting it back. If it was Justin Bieber, everybody would be talking about it."

"It's a get-together for all who care to attend to show support for our brother Randy Blythe and to voice our concerns over the travesty of justice that is currently unfolding," Adler wrote on his Facebook page. "I hope to see you all there."

A two-and-a-half-minute video report from WWBT on this weekend's vigil can be seen below.

LAMB OF GOD set up a fund to help pay Blythe's legal expenses. A statement on the band's Facebook page reads, in part, "As many of you know, Randy is being held in Czech jail for a crime we believe he did not commit. We are still learning about the legal system there and the situation is fluid. We have retained local legal counsel, have support from the U.S. embassy and we are flying over additional lawyers to try and assure that Randy has the best representation possible. As many of you have pointed out, the simple fact is that the legal fees are adding up very quickly."

I don't get what this will achieve! It won't get him back quicker, would hav made more sense to leave it til he get's home and have fans at a ''welcome back'' party type thing.

Well, the vigil--if it gets some publicity and media coverage--could raise the national (international might be too much to hope for) profile of the situation...

And that could lead to faster action, the raising of funds to help with his defense, etc.

But I agree that a "welcome home" party is what most probably hope to see--in the VERY near future!

I love how very, very few Metal artists have said anything about this at all. This to me says either one of two things:

1) Randy must be a total dick and is assumed guilty.

2) Metal musicians are apathetic wankers.

like the Czech Republic is North Korea or a country like that. The way this has gone down sucks, but if he's innocent he'll be back soon enough. The real tragedy here is that a kid died, not that Blythe spends a few days or weeks helping to clear it up. There are literally millions of more worthy cases to lend your times and efforts to. That being said, I of course hope he's doing ok.

Or:

3) This is completely nebulous and unimportant to everyone except a few sad Lamb of Shoddy fans. Most metal musicians, I'm glad to see, have a bit of perspective. If they don't turn out to protest wars or gitmo, why should they give a fuck when some guy is arrested - perfectly legitimately - on suspicion of manslaughter?

Until now he's not being illegaly detained, so before jumping on conclusions and acting on it you should let the situation unfold.

If it were Bieber you'd all make fun of him and hope he rots forever.

Since it's a metal guy you're hoping US ignores a foreign countries laws and send the army to bust him out.

The only thing this has done is reconfirm my view of most Americans as myopic morons who think that everywhere outside of Murrkah is some sort of 3rd world backwater (probably full of Trrrrrists) whose justice system clearly can't compete with the "libertarian" crowd in Washington (who drone people indiscriminately and "disappear" them to overseas prisons for torture and unlimited detention) and who therefore have no right to arrest Americans when they commit crimes in their country. Czech prison is probably a hundred times nicer and more humane than any of the hellholes in the USA and Prague is about a hundred times nicer than any of the crime-ridden cities in Americs.

Why do people keep comparing this to Justin Bieber, he's fucking CANADIAN!!!!!!

And another thing, I would never have to hear that miserable runts name if it wasn't for people who don't like him talking about him all the time. It's not like I know anyone who gives a fuck about him. If people would just stop using him as a pop culture reference I wouldn't even have to know he exists!

You are so fucking right. "Bieber" has become such a cliche for people to latch onto. Fucking seriously, I would have no idea who this kid if it weren't for all the "haters" who bring him up in every internet posting. It's like the T-Rex: If you don't move, he can't see you. If you don't talk about Bieber, he doesn't exist.

All of the anti-Bieber sentiment from the witles mouth-breathers makes me like the little douchebag all the more, in all honesty.

I can't understand why people are on here totally tearing Randy Blythe apart. I can understand people not liking LOG, but so many of you are so cruel. It's interesting cause I don't see many cruel people out in public? I guess it's easy to hide behind your computer screens in your shitty apartment or mother's basement.

Fans should not be on stage, end of story. It's the kids fault for fucking climbing on the stage. What is supposed to happen? Should the band and/or their security just ignore it and let everyone get on stage? I'd throw any asshole offstage if they weren't invited on stage first? Maybe I'll go to the opera and wonder on stage, maybe an NFL game and walk on the field...what do you think will happen?????

It's a lot easier to be heartless on the internet... there's a detachment of culpability behind a monitor. The majority of these people aren't like this in real life.

The comments here affirms my belief that no one cares about nothing but themselves...its the attitude of "it doesnt effect me so why do i care" If it were you in prison you would want someone supporting you and showing you are doing the best you can to make your voice to be heard...In prison overseas he dont have a voice. This vigil is to show randy he is not alone in there and that people do care...and maybe if there is enough attention just maybe our government can do something about it.

1) Kid jumps barricade (which obviously is forbidden area) 3 times
2) Video shows kid falling on his head twice before the alleged incident
3) The video shows the security pushing the kid

Randy did nothing wrong..

i have compassion for the kid and his parents but it was the kids own fault. When you jump the barricade and you get on stage and even stage dive one time falling on your head you cant blame a band member. If you get hurt in a mosh pit you cant blame the band you know the risks.
