LAMB OF GOD Manager: RANDY BLYTHE Is Innocent - July 4, 2012
Czech web site Blesk.cz conducted an exclusive interview with LAMB OF GOD manager Larry Mazer about the ordeal of the band's lead vocalist, Randy Blythe, who has been jailed in Prague, the Czech Republic, where he is accused of causing the death of a fan at one of the group's shows. Blythe was arrested on June 27 and is facing manslaughter charges in connection with a 2010 Prague concert at which he allegedly shoved a local fan off the stage. The man, who is said to have stormed the stage three times during the show, reportedly suffered a brain hemorrhage that resulted in his death 14 days later.

[BLABBERMOUTH.NET would like to thank Martin Lipták for his help with the Czech-to-English translation of the interview below.]

Blesk.cz: What is the latest on Randy Blythe's release?

Larry Mazer: "I have no idea. The bail [in the amount of $200,000] was posted Tuesday morning [July 3]. We tried to make bail on Monday, but everything took a bit longer to be processed. Randy should be released immediately. His lawyer told us so on Saturday [during a court hearing]. In the U.S., he would have been. You post the bail and you're free."

Blesk.cz: How long will Randy stay in jail?

Larry Mazer: "I was told that it may take up to 20 days — that the investigator may require more time to investigate the case."

Blesk.cz: How have the other bandmembers reacted to this whole ordeal?

Larry Mazer: "Everybody is shocked. It's absurd. It seems like a bad joke that Randy is sitting in your jail. He did nothing wrong. He is innocent."

Blesk.cz: Were you aware that a Czech fan of LAMB OF GOD died two years ago shortly after attending the band's concert?

Larry Mazer: "Nobody had contacted us in the last two years. My contact information is publicly available, but I never heard from the family [of the deceased fan]. We did not even hear anything about it from the concert organizer. Nobody called us to let us know."

Blesk.cz: When did you first find out about the fan having died after allegedly sustaining injuries at the LAMB OF GOD concert?

Larry Mazer: "Last Wednesday [when Randy was detained at the Prague airport]. The organizer of the concert at Abaton [the club where the 2010 concert took place] now says that the Czech police contacted him three months after the boy died. I do not understand why no one got in touch with us to let us know. The boy was in a coma and then he died, and we never heard from anybody."

Blesk.cz: The Czech police say that they contacted the American authorities...

Larry Mazer: "No one told us anything. Do you think that I would send the band to the Czech Republic to play a concert knowing that something like this could happen? No way!"

Blesk.cz: According to the police, Randy shoved the Czech fan off the stage...

Larry Mazer: "There is one video from the concert [see below] where you can see someone jumping into the audience. But it wasn't Randy that pushed him. The security guard shoved him off the stage."

Blesk.cz: In the video you can see both Randy and the security guard pushing the person off the stage...

Larry Mazer: "But there is no footage of the man falling to the ground. He fell into the crowd, but you can't see that in the video."

Blesk.cz: Is it common for LAMB OF GOD concerts to be so wild?

Larry Mazer: "It's typical for rock concerts. People want to have fun. But nothing like this has ever happened at a LAMB OF GOD show before that I am aware of."

First off, I got first comment! And I'm happy that it's on a Lamb of God post.

Randy shouldn't even be in there, if no one contacted Lamb of God's management about the incident when it happened, then why does Randy get accused TWO YEARS LATER?!?! This is bullshit. Lamb of God have the whole world on their side... except Czech Republic.

so basically the argument is that randy has superhuman strength and can launch that guy off the stage with one arm, by the hair, while singing at the same time... and now they're trying to charge him 2 years later... and people tell me the american justice system is warped?

Also, the newest information suggest, that he will retain his passport and will be able to leave for the US upon release from jail on Monday.

He will retain his passport, be allowed to leave once they have received all the millions of Czech dollars, and he doesn't have to return. They have to hold him up to 20 days to "investigate" more, but really they are trying to wear him down so more money is offered. You will see that this was all about money and he will not even be charged with anything, much less convicted.

I can't exactly form an opinion because I wasn't at the show, but the manager does make a point. No one in the right mind set would go back to a country if they knew the authorities were after them. Why do you think Roman Polanski stayed out of the U.S. for so long? Also if Randy did beat the shit out of the fan, why didn't it get reported immediately instead of 2 years later? I guarantee you someone from the audience would have recorded it or at least posted about it if it happened.

Everything was recorded, as is typical today. Even in Czech land they all walk around with camera phones. Yet no evidence showing Randy Blythe pushing a fan off the stage and the fan suffering a head injury. No detaining any security guards who worked the show and are shown pushing unidentifiable fans off the stage, either, but of course the security goons have no money.

"Shouldn't have sent them to the Czech Republic". You douche's realize that there is this thing called the European Union don't you? News flash, the Czech Republic is part of it! What this means is that LOG could have played virtually anywhere in Europe and Czech authorities could have easily had their warrant fulfilled and Randy brought in. Its the equivalent of committing a crime in Florida and hanging out in Montana thinking you are immune... they cans till get you!

Then why didn't they do that? I haven't looked at the tour routing, but I'd bet Czech Land wasn't the first stop on this European tour. Of course, why didn't they issue a warrant for his arrest some time in the last 2 years? It's because they wanted to snatch him on their territory, so no one could stop the shakedown scheme.

Well judging from those video clips, the security guy is the one who shows him into the crowd, and there is no real security line in front of the stage to hold back the crowd from jumping onto the stage. So the organizers of this concert along with the working security are really to blame for that this could have happened. And its really horrifying to see in that last clip in this video when the security guy throws him off the edge of the stage backwards down head first and he hits his head on the barricade as he falls to the floor and nobody in the audience near him seems to bother to check if he is ok as he is lying on the floor, instead those idiots they just stand still and laugh and smile.

When I see a fucking retarded stagediver - who is putting everyone else at risk - go down, it makes me happy! That kid was an asswipe and even in death he's making others miserable for no reason. This is all total fucking bullshit and anyone who says it's ok for Randy to be held in the Czech Republic just because they don't like the guy or his band is a fucking asshole!

The Czech fans should be bailing Randy. They stand to lose metal shows for good. How many bands would opt out of playing in Czech Republic? Anyone aware of this. Which means every metal band in the world.

Randy is innocent. I feel sorry for the family of the deceased, however they are clearly trying to cash in on the tragedy.

Right, the head injury could have occurred at any time. Hell, it could have happened before the concert even started. But you see, the chance for the big millions of Czech dollars payday did not occur until Randy Blythe was seen making incidental contact with some unidentifiable fan right before security threw the same guy off the stage.

I have no problems with Randy being brought in for questioning. That's standard and understandable. I do think it's unfair that he seems to be the only one that's being questioned (unless others aren't reported). The apparent (note: apparent) video from the show seems to show at least two other security guards involved in handling the kid.

It's obviously a tragedy this guy died. I don't think anyone is saying otherwise. And considering this guy died two weeks after the show, I'm pretty sure the band didn't know much, if anything at all, about it. It's not uncommon for someone to get hurt at a metal show and get taken out. Chances are if they did see him get taken out, they probably didn't think a whole lot about it.

And as others stated, his injuries could have occurred at any point in the show. Was it when he stage dived? Was it in the pit by one of those jackasses who likes to throw punches?

Obviously that's the point of the investigation, to find out what happened. I just think it is unfair one person seems to be singled out in this whole debacle, and that'd be regardless of if it's the singer or not.

I wouldn't want to go there and play when the authorities are being this ridiculous. Here are some points I'd like to make. You can either agree w them or disagree w them. Not a fan of the band and have nothing against the Czech Republic, but this whole ordeal just smells like shit:

1) He is NOT guilty of anything

2) If you have seen the videos of all three incidents posted on YouTube, will see that the 3rd, and final incident, Randy was no where NEAR the kid. It appeared that this is when the injury occurred, NOT when Randy sort of semi-helped him back in the crowd.

3) He had no drugs or alcohol in his system 14 days after the incident???? Last time I checked, alcohol exits the system relatively quickly, and most drugs such as Oxy leaves the system within 5 total days. Its absolutely ABSURD that after 14 days, the kid was clear of alcohol and drugs.

4) He is the idiot who continued to get up on the stage. He risked getting on the stage and if he wouldn't have acted like a complete idiot, he would still be alive today. Its not Randy's fault, its HIS OWN.

5) I'm not even a Lamb of God fan, nor a fan of Randy, but there is absolutely no way in hell that he should be in jail over this, and in jail for THIS LONG. He's hardly a criminal or someone who is dangerous to society.

6) This is the absolute most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of and if I were in a band, I would NOT risk going to the Czech Republic EVER again over this due to how they have handled this entire situation. Its Wrong, and if the idiots on here that support the Czech's decisions on detaining him, then you people are just as STUPID as the Czech Republic authorities.

"Its clear from looking at the video that Randy's guilty of involuntary manslaughter. He never intended to hurt the kid but it doesn't change the fact that the kid died as a result of injuries from being pushed off the stage by Randy" ------- STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES. He's guilty of involuntary manslaughter????? If you are playing football, and you push someone to the ground doing a good block for your QB, and that player ends up dying for some reason........is that involuntary manslaughter too??????????????????? COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS statement. The whole thing is ridiculous. SCREW THE CZECH REPUBLIC.

To RiotAct666 and every other idiot who calls Randy a "murderer", you can eat it. Life happens. This kid took part in a dangerous activity. Stage diving can be dangerous even if no one shoves you off stage. I'm tired of this whole idea where there is no such thing as personal responsibility. If the kid had been hanging out and enjoying the show like most of the other fans, he would have walked away with his life and had an awesome memory of a kick ass show. Instead, he stormed the stage numerous times, of his own accord. No one forced him onstage. Randy didn't jump off the stage, grab him and drag him up there against his will.
I don't care if Randy was the final person to touch the kid. I'm sure countless people in countless bands have shoved or helped people off stage and back into the crowd. What happened here was simply a tragic accident that sadly resulted in death. No one is at fault.

I'm sure Randy is a good guy and all that but the fact is. If he didn't react the way he did..none of this would have happened. That kid was being a dick, and I'm 100% positive what happened was accidental/incidental. However, Randy could have stopped the show, singled the guy out, had him ejected. Whatever. I saw Chuck Billy knock the shit out of some kid many years ago by hitting him with his ego stick stage mic right on top of his head. He thought nothing of it. The kid was excited to see Testament and tried to touch Chuck. Again...it didn't need to go down like that. As a performer, you have a responsibility and striking/touching your fans is not one of them. Fan or performer... If you want to act all "metal".. shit happens. It goes both ways.

Anybody who has been to a metal show through the 80's has probably been kicked and punched at least a couple of times either from the pit or divers. You get onstage, you're taking a chance at hitting the floor, the barricade, a monitor, or having some jackass security dick throw you across the room. Get in, get out, simple. If you rush the singer (or anybody in the band for that matter) multiple times, don't expect hugs and fucking kisses for it.
Unless Randy possesses some sort of unheard of strength to fling a full-grown man by his hair like a ragdoll, he isn't to blame for anything except giving the guy directions off the stage.
It's almost a guarantee that somebody from the guys family is either a part of the investigating team or have ties to them, though it still makes no sense at all why two years went by without a single word about the death or speculation on the cause. It could've happened at any given time at that show, or even after. It's scary what money motivates people to do, ain't it?
As for the video's:
-Did Randy even touch the guy in the first one? That and the guy barely hopped off the stage and immediately went down.
-Randy guided him by the hair; security shoved him and the guy clearly jumped on his own just as he was shoved.
-In the 3rd, John (bass) tried to block him from getting onstage. Security grabbed him, pulled him away, and all but tossed him on his head over the guardrail. Where exactly was Randy's part in that? Did he run over and punt the guys head with his superhuman speed?

Say goodbye to metal bands coming anywhere near those borders for a long fucking time.

Oh, and to anybody replying to anything RiotAct says: congrats, you did exactly what he wanted you to do. If you feed a troll, the troll stays fat. Learn it.
