MOTÖRHEAD: New Video Interview With MIKKEY DEE - July 3, 2012
AOL's Noisecreep conducted an interview with MOTÖRHEAD drummer Mikkey Dee at the opening show of this year's Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival on June 30 at San Manuel Amphitheater in San Bernardino, California. Dee spoke about music, MOTÖRHEAD frontman Lemmy Kilmister and hockey. You can watch the chat below.

According to the official blog of the MOTÖRHEAD fan club organizer/editor Alan Burridge, the band's "The Wörld Is Ours Vol. 2" DVD will be released to tie in with MOTÖRHEAD's annual U.K. tour in November.

Released in North America in January via Motörhead Music/UDR, "The Wörld Is Ours Vol. 1 - Everywhere Further Than Everyplace Else" was a blistering DVD containing some of the finest moments from MOTÖRHEAD's 2011 tour.

Mixed by the band's long-time producer Cameron Webb, "The Wörld Is Ours Vol. 1 - Everywhere Further Than Everyplace Else" was stuffed with the classics Motörfans demanded, from "Overkill" to "Ace Of Spades" to "Killed By Death" as well as some old gems like "Over The Top" and new favorites such as "I Know How To Die".

"The Wörld Is Ours Vol. 1 - Everywhere Further Than Everyplace Else" contains the complete set from the band's supreme performance in Chile at the Teatro Caupolican in Santiago on April 9, 2011, shot by Banger Films and Sam Dunn ("Iron Maiden Flight 666", "Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage"). The DVD continues with some tasty morsels from New York's Best Buy Theater and the Manchester Apollo.

ever answered why he left the prog stylings of King Diamond for a simple rock n roll band?

i'd honestly be interested to hear why he wanted to take his music in a simpler direction.

Dee is a total monster on the kit...one of the heaviest hitters in the business, and a real nice guy to boot.

ATTWN...I don't know if he's ever given a reason, but he has said in past interviews that he just wanted to be in a straight-up rock'n'roll band rather than having to play the more complicated compositions in King Diamond.

I only knew Mikkey as Motorhead's drummer for years, and then I went and bought Abigail, and was shocked at how excellent his technical chops were/are.

The guy is an incredibly underrated drummer in every respect.

Agreed, terribly underrated. I have saw them a couple of times and I would say that 50 % of their sound falls on his back; a drumming beast.

Check out "Them" with King Diamond for a master class in drumming. Or if you feel lazy, just listen to "Welcome Home" from that same album to see that Mikkey Dee was a HUGE name in metal drumming long before he joined Motorhead:

Also, he was the one who created all the "complicated" arrangements in the band to begin with, adding to King's and Andy's simpler styles of writing.

He left KD for creative differences and because he felt the band was becoming too focused on King, the man, rather than King Diamond, the band. KD was never the same without him.

OK, but I'd prefer to hear new songs. It looks like this time the gap will studio albums is going to exceed 2 years for the first time in 20 years or so.

hey, dude, King is a) not into Satanism. if he ever was in the early days of fate he's not now. he's actually a very compassionate and reasonable man, if you've bothered to read his interviews at all.

b) he's not a piece of shit. i've never heard anyone speak of him in the kind of ways that you hear big-name singers being spoken of.

there was never any King/LaRoque feud, ala Dio-Campbell, for example.

c) King Diamond as a band is not "crap" -- it's regarded as a progressive band with several classic albums.

what are you basing this on, because you're wrong on a lot of counts.
