SLAYER, THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, WHITECHAPEL Members Comment On RANDY BLYTHE Arrest - July 2, 2012
SLAYER drummer Dave Lombardo, WHITECHAPEL guitarist Ben Savage and THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA vocalist Mike Hranica are among the musicians who have come out in support of LAMB OF GOD frontman Randy Blythe, who is facing manslaughter charges in the Czech Republic.

Blythe, 41, is accused of causing the fatal injury that occurred at LAMB OF GOD's May 24, 2010 show in Prague. The singer apparently either pushed or struck a 19-year-old fan named Daniel N. who had come on stage, and that person died 14 days later of bleeding in the brain. A post-mortem reportedly found that he had not been drunk or under the influence of drugs.

Speaking to Loudwire, Lombardo said, "I can only make a presumption of what happened, but a kid jumps onstage, he accidentally pushes him off in the wrong way, hits his head, dies on the way to the hospital. Now if that's what happened, I don't know. But you've got to be gentle with these kids. You can't just push them offstage. We're talking five feet, sometimes six feet off the ground. That's a hard fall and if he's going up against a guardrail or something, you never know what he hit on his way down, I just don't know what to say, but I see it happening."

Ben Savage (WHITECHAPEL) (via Loudwire): "That's terrible. I don't know. Some people are crazy and they'll come up and grab you or something and that's not cool … I mean Europe, I love being there, but as an American it's just a different world and you're not as comfortable at times. I feel bad for him because that would be horrible to be in a jail in a foreign country where they may not speak your language or understand your values and where you're coming from. I just want to send positive vibes out to him because I would hate to be in that situation."

Mike Hranica (THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA) (via Loudwire): "As soon as I read [the report], I was like, 'This is getting blown out of proportion.' The things I have heard about Randy is that he's a down-to-earth metal dude … I just feel it's getting blown out of proportion."

Slow-motion video footage of what may or may not be the stage incident which allegedly resulted in the death of a fan at the LAMB OF GOD concert in the Czech Republic more than two years ago can be seen below. The clip was originally aired on Saturday (June 30) as part of a TV report from Czech Republic's TV Nova.

**IMPORTANT**: It should be noted that the TV Nova report did not claim that this was, in fact, footage of actual stage jump that that led to the person's death. The performance clip from LAMB OF GOD's 2010 concert in Prague was only included in the report to illustrate the behavior of vocalist Randy Blythe and the fans during the show.

According to Czech media reports, Blythe will be released today (Monday, July 2) on 4 million Czech Koruna bail (approximately $200,000 — an amount which Randy claimed was the equivalent of his annual income).

The crime of which Blythe is being accused is punishable by up to ten years in prison, according to popular Czech news web site Novinky.cz.

It's obvious that whether or not he caused the guy's death, it was not on purpose. Obvious.

Judges sitting in courts somewhere don't know of the adrenaline rush that hits you at a metal show sometimes. I've done all kinds of crazy shit and could have seriously hurt myself at times.

But it's all in the hands of the powers that be......

Blabb added a disclaimer now, the video footage is not claimed to be Randy Blythe pushing the dead guy off the stage. Okay, so where is the real evidence? There is none. Instead, someone merely told the Czech police that they saw Blythe push the guy off the stage, and based on this he is held in jail until he pays $200,000. I'll bet Lamb of God had no idea whatsoever that a fan died 2 weeks after one of their concerts 2 years ago. No one bothered to contact them about this until they returned to the Czech Republic, and then the shakedown scheme was implemented.

That's right, all you Europeans with your long posts on these news articles, it's a shakedown scheme. The dude caused his own death. If you run out onto a highway and get hit by a car, you caused your own death. It's not the driver's fault. If you climb up onto a building and fall off the roof, you caused your own death. It's not the building owner's fault. If the stagediving had occurred during the opening band's set, we wouldn't be here discussing the dead guy, because the opening band doesn't have enough money to shake them down.

Wow... it's kinda obvious that you are just assuming and know nothing about what has actually happened and is happening and thus just talk out of your ass. I'd like to think that czech officials know a bit more than you and know what they are doing.

that guy in the video had a running start. the security pushed him hard, and randy pushed a little. but it seems like the kid jumped.

not that it matters, they're not claiming this video portrays the incident of the kid in question.

2 weeks after the event this guy died...

After the fact a post mortem autopsy was done and they could tell he wasn't on drugs or alchohol? When? At the time of death or the time of incident? Pretty big distinction.

AND if that is the footage of the supposed incident he most likely landed hands down and it would stand to reason that he braced as he hit the ground. Who's to say he wasn't kicked in the head after landing and that blow killed him? 2 weeks later...

AND FINALLY Randy really didn't look to angry. Looks to me like he didn't see the kid till he caught him corner of his eye, noticed he was gonna dive and gave him a solid push.

This whole thing reeks of a shake down.

Watched it again...I'm wrong...he did grab him and throw him.

Still, nothing exists in that video prving that had anything to do with his death.

I'm more interested to hear his opinion of this with all the built up anger on a new Lamb of God CD.

Looks to me like Randy was giving the Security guard a hand. If he wasn't because it does kind of look like that the security guard came into the picture late, then security got the last more forceful push.

For a guy who keeps a diary of every album's release date, you sure don't read articles and disclaimers too well.

Ahh, so that video might not be the actual incident. Kind of makes all the armchair lawyers look funny now.

Also, guys, you really need to look up what manslaughter-particularly involuntary manslaughter-actually MEANS before commenting on this. Because you're conflating the two with murder, and that's nowhere near the truth. Throwing someone off of a stage, causing him to hit his head and subsequently die from an injury, is pretty much the dictionary definition of involuntary manslaughter in the US. I'm not sure of the legal definition of manslaughter in Czechoslovakia, but I imagine it's broadly similar.

And would someone please explain to me how this is a shakedown? It's a criminal case for fuck's sake, no one's filed a civil case or a lawsuit based on damages yet. Do you guys even know the difference?

You should do a little research about how criminal cases are being handled in his own country these days. If you pay up front you can get out of jail right away, or else they hold you and drag out the process as long as they can to punish you for not paying. I have no doubt the same is done in Eastern Europe.

It's an obvious shakedown scheme, based on no evidence beyond one or more "witnesses" who claim they saw Randy Blythe push this guy off the stage. These so called "witnesses" of course don't know anything about his previous stage dives, any one of which could have ended with his head striking the floor, nor do they know anything about the violence in the pit throughout the show, nor do they know what he did later that night. All they know is the rich American singer touched their guy, and he has the most money, so he killed him.

Oh, this now confirms it, you know nothing and you're an idiot. How is anyone profiting (which would have to happen to actually call it a "shakedown") by falsely framing the rock star?? The "paying up front" is called "bail", which lets you wait outside of a prison for your trial to start. The money is returned by the state once you go to jail for good or once you get acquitted. There is no shakedown.

from what i see, it looks like the security guard is the one doing the pushing, randy seems to have his hand give him an extra sendoff, but hes got a mic in one hand, so that means with his one left hand he had the power to send someone flying off the stage with enough force to kill him? Wow he must be a pretty strong guy!

Total fuckin shakedown. Very standard in Eastern European countries. Someone gets hurt, there's a way to attach a well-off out-of-towner to it, Kangaroo Court Time.

nodeerforamonth, and EVERYBODY FUCKING ELSE, please stop throwing Dimabag's name into the ring about this. Completely different animal, one has NOTHING to do with the other. Seriously, stop it.
