LAMB OF GOD Frontman Arrested In Czech Republic - June 28, 2012
According to the Czech news web site Novinky, vocalist Randy Blythe of Richmond, Virginia metallers LAMB OF GOD was arrested earlier today (Thursday, June 28) in the Czech Republic and charged with manslaughter over an incident that happened more than two years ago.

Blythe, 41, reportedly got into an altercation with a fan who had come on stage during the band's show at the Prague club Abaton in May 2010 and the fan later died of his injuries.

After the 2010 incident, those who know the band heard the intruder may have been struck with a microphone before the security team forced him from the stage, reports Richmond's TV station CBS-6.

When LAMB OF GOD arrived on Thursday to play a show at the Rock Café in Prague with SKELETONWITCH and ALL SHALL PERISH, the local police brought the musician in for questioning. LAMB OF GOD's appearance at the venue was canceled later in the day.

LAMB OF GOD's representatives have said that Blythe is wrongly accused and that they expect him to be fully exonerated.

Randy's brother, Mark Blythe, told CBS-6 that he's awaiting further details and said the charge is "bogus and outrageous and will be dropped immediately."

Shortly after 9 p.m. EST, the #freerandyblythe hash tag was posted on the @lambofgodband Twitter account (which is run by a fan and not the bandmembers themselves).

A recovering alcoholic, Blythe's drunken fight with LAMB OF GOD guitarist Mark Morton was included on the band's "Killadelphia" DVD. But Randy stopped drinking completely more than two years ago.

"I drank for a good 20 years," the singer told Spin.com in a February 2012 interview. "A year or two ago, I'd had enough and got sober. I always thought nothing could ever beat me. But drinking beat me into a state of submission. . . . I can tell you from personal experience, if you're an alcoholic, you are most definitely fucked. It's never gonna get any better. Talk to somebody else who got sober. That's what I did. I wouldn't go to an orthodontist for back surgery, and I'm not going to go to someone who's never been an alcoholic to ask for advice on how to quit drinking."

Not sure how I feel about this one. It's bad for bands, promoters, venues, & ticket prices (insurance rates for metal shows/tours are bound to go up for this shit) but I also think it's karma for Randy for some of his past arrogance. No matter what you gotta admit it's one of the most Metal things I've ever heard of!!!

I heard the fan jumped on stage, along with many others. If this is the case, Randy should be found innocent. You never know what a person is capable of (the Dimebag situation), so this should be seen as self defense, if anything.

Would the same rule apply if a singer stagedives into the pit ? Can a fan just kick him in the head til he's dead & claim self defense ?

Besides, Randy likes to encourage fans to commit reckless acts of violence (if thats the right word) on each other, knowing that the potential for injury is high. At Soundwave he encouraged fans to toss bottles at each other over the barricade. He thought it was great. And it was a sight to behold. But he wasn't really impressed when fans decided it would be more fun to peg them at him & his precious bandmates.

Only a matter of time before it comes back to bite you in the ass......

Seriously. People don't know by now that they shouldn't be on stage??? Also, I highly doubt, Randy (even though he wanted him off stage, and hit him), I'm sure he didn't mean to kill anyone.

WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!? WHY? Because Dime was killed by a stupid asshole jumping on the stage and shooting him. Which is the exact reason why you need to defend yourself on a stage, and it is also happens to be the reason why I don't feel sorry for people who get fucked up after trying to get on stage.

Phils days of being a top notch metal vocalist have been over for some time now. It's great that he is remembered for being awesome, but he is not that guy anymore. He abused his body too much. All respect to Phil, trust me, but even Lamb of God is approaching the final stretch here. Mortality is the one thing we cannot escape.

Is Randy kind of an ass that has stirred audiences to injure each other?

Absolutely.

Is the band/security obligated to protect themselves when a fan jumps on stage?

Of course they are.

When you buy a ticket your are basically entering in to a contract with the band and the arena that you will and will not do certain things.

Does that give anyone the right to beat the snot out of the fans?

NOPE!

Is the situation compounded in the post Dime world?

Sure is! We all miss Dime, what happened was complete crap. Thank God for Officer Niggemeyer; he saved Kat Brooks and countless others.

Does the Band’s music suck?

That’s completely immaterial to the point.

It would be interesting to see a band like LoG would run to the American consulate for help. Many of their songs seem to paint soldiers and government as inherently evil.

Let it play out in court, that’s where it belongs.

no more rants about Twitter.

....

If he unintentionally killed a guy, he deserves to be in a Czech jail.

wow..

I hear those Czech jails aren't exactly the Beverly Hills Hilton either.

If this was a big pop star this would get a shitload more press and they'd probably send in Bill Clinton to save the day.

This incident happened in the Czech Republic and not here in America, so all this must follow Czech law. Ugh..

If you're gonna be stupid, do it here in America.

Not envying Randy sitting in a Chech jail right now.

We all know a metal show is a wild scene and anything can happen when a fan jumps on stage remember what happened in 2004 with Nathan Gale during Black Sabbath's early years (this is in both Ozzy and Tony Iommi's books) a fan jumped on stage and rushed at Tony with a knife and a roadie knocked him out Maybe the fan had a knife on him and Randy was defending himself you never know with people these days we have to list the possibilities why this happened before jumping to conclusions when these kind of things happen personally I believe this was an unfortunate accident but we'll see what happens

First off, most of us don't know what happened so we just have to wait and see. I agree that you have to defend yourself on stage though. I recall seeing a video where Maynard James Keenan took someone down on stage. Especially after the Dimebag incident, I don't think it's crazy for an artist to feel threatened when someone jumps on stage. Obviously, it depends on what they are doing, but the thing is, you just don't know. I hope the courts realize this cause it's not like a bar fight. The second that fan jumped on stage he became a possible threat and if Randy had to force him off stage physically to protect himself and his bandmates I believe that is self defense.

Let me tell you some basic information about our (CZ) law system:
- self-defence is absolutely useless in this case. No court would consider this situation as self-defence. In fact - our law system operates with similar term (not exactly this) but the basic requirement is not met. The guy who sadly died would have to clearly tried to attack him on stage - with knife, rod or other weapon. After THIS attack the singer may would be able to defence himself with the result that would lead to the death of attacker. But this situation clearly did NOT happen. Fan who is getting on stage is NOT attacker....
- this case is good example what our code knows as manslaughter. Its the situation when person´s act leads to the death of another person - without intention (car crash for example). Im sure that this is going to be solved in accordance with §141 part 1 (Manslaughter) - there is very wide range of penalty from 3 up to 10 years...

This is how it looks like according to Czech code...

Just correction... Its not considered as manslaughter according to press reports, but its considered as "harm to health leading to death". There is very important how judge will review the whole situation, but the penalty are very similar to manslaughter here, so no big difference. The range here is from 5 to 10 years.

There were the questions why he was not arrested when the band was still in Prague in 2010. Its very simple - investigation was at the very beginning and that man passed away 14 days after the show. Other question is - when police started to investigate it, I think that its very probable that it was after band left the Czech Republic. So these are the answers for these questions here.
