MIKE PORTNOY Vs. BILLY RYMER At 'Drum Fight IX' (Video) - June 27, 2012

Mike Portnoy (ADRENALINE MOB, DREAM THEATER, AVENGED SEVENFOLD) and Billy Rymer (THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN) engaged in a mini "drum battle" on June 2 at the ninth installment of the Drum Fight drum competition and expo at Revolution (formerly Ollie's Point) in Amityville, New York. Check out video footage below.

The event, which was previously and famously held at the Crazy Donkey before its demise, featured judges Portnoy, Rymer and Frank Gilchriest (VIRGIN STEELE, HOLY MOTHER), who rated the contestants on categories such as skill, flair and originality for great prizes and bragging rights.

Lars might be as lazy as fuck right now,....but why an average drummer, can start a band and make it big, while great drummers as above, can't?

watch paint dry than drumming solos! There are some great drummers out there but in reality all a drummer has to do to be effective is keep the rhythm and time and he has done his job. Drumming is way overrated and boring.

While Portnoy is flashy and pretty good at hitting drums, I'd take Rymer in a second for a band mate. His pocket is incredible and his meter never falters. Even if Portnoy was drama free (ya right) He still gets smoked by Rymer as far as playing in a band context.

That smooth "in the pocket" groove that Rymer has is notch up on Portnoy. (Portnoy is awesome as well)
