Former DIVINE HERESY Singer To DINO CAZARES: 'I'm Sorry, Buddy' - June 27, 2012
Jo Schüftan of Horns Up Rocks! recently conducted an interview with former DIVINE HERESY/SNOT and current VEXT singer Tommy "Vext" Cummings. You can now watch the chat below.

When asked about his acrimonious April 2008 split with DIVINE HERESY (Cummings reportedly got into an altercation with DIVINE HERESY guitarist Dino Cazares during a live performance), Tommy said, "In respect to Tim [Yeung, then-DIVINE HERESY drummer] and Joe [Payne, then-DIVINE HERESY bassist], we've already talked years ago. It was never really like a beef thing or anything. It's just kind of unfortunate what happened. I called Dino once or twice. We really don't see eye-to-eye. There are a lot of things that I disagreed with. He's really hard-headed, I'm really hard-headed; we're both Latino. It's just really unfortunate. I learned a lot from that guy. He's an amazing guitar player. And at the end of the day, we just didn't fit. It sucks that everything unfolded the way that it did when it could have been like a handshake and, like, 'Let's not work together anymore,' which is what I wish would have happened. That's kind of the only thing I regret — that we didn't handle it better, like gentlemen. [Addressing Dino directly] So I'm sorry, buddy. But your last two FEAR FACTORY records were really good, so good for you. [laughs]"

In addition to Cummings, VEXT features guitar virtuoso Angel Vivaldi and the rhythm section of the now-disbanded MUTINY WITHIN (Andrew Jacobs on bass and Bill Fore on drums).

VEXT's debut EP, "Impermanence", is scheduled for release on July 3.

"Impermanence" track listing:

01. Exit Wounds
02. In The End
03. Crush
04. Hourglass

The cover artwork of "Impermanence" can be seen below.

VEXT is:

Tommy Vext - Vocals
Angel Vivaldi - Guitar
Andrew Jacobs - Bass
Bill Fore - Drums

All copies that are pre-ordered will be autographed by the bandmembers. The EP will also be available on iTunes and many other digital retailers.

These four musicians came together in search of a different sound since they had all been previously involved with more extreme metal projects. How they came to know one another is a quite unconventional.

On the evening of September 19, 2010, Vext was the victim of a brutal attack at his home in Brooklyn. Having suffered severe injuries to his skull, abdomen and an open compound fracture to his left arm, Tommy was rushed to the ER. With medical bills soaring above seventy-five thousand dollars, his friends in the music scene banded together to help raise funds.

Enter Roadrunner recording artists MUTINY WITHIN. "We heard that GOD FORBID was doing a benefit concert for Tommy and when we found out why, we immediately jumped on the bill," says Jacobs. A few months later, Andrew introduced Tommy to Bill. After seeing Fore perform with the Angel Vivaldi band, it became apparent to Tommy that Angel and Bill were the missing pieces to this new musical effort.

his vox in Divine Heresy were great. Dino is probably hard to work with, but he still makes great music. Men fight, and than move on. Thats how it is.

http://www.thegauntlet.com/article/3834/13259/A-closer-look-at-the-fight-between-Tommy-Vext-and-Dino-Cazares

Fast Forward to July 13, 2008 at the San Bernadino, CA Mayhem Festival. Dino and his wife Jennifer Cazares were "having a great time with awesome friends backstage. Out of nowhere comes a beer and fist straight to my face (so horrifying and painful)" stated Jennifer in a blog post. A day later on the phone, Jen stated to me that "it was meant for Dino and he did connect with Dino, but he got me at the very end of the punch." As I stated in my first post, Tommy Vext is a big dude and taking a punch from him would leave major swelling and bruises. However, Tommy did throw the first punch and was the aggressor in the fight. It is common courtesy if you are going to throw blows with someone, make sure bystanders are out of the way. The fact remains, you still hit Jen. It might have been unintentional, but she shouldn't have been touched. I understand that Jen was hit, but the punch wasn't meant for Jennifer as a reader of her post is led to believe.

Tommy really seems to have grown up and matured A LOT since the whole thing with Divine Heresy went down.

Good on you Tommy!

I'd like to see Dino for once - at least shut up a few people out there - and show some class as well.

I really think vext is an underdog from what I have read about him. I bet if he was never associated with Dino el pinche gordo people would be seeing him a lot different right now. I actually like his voice a lot. He should keep pushing out his own material on his own terms as it sounds pretty promising.

All these histories about Vext , that he is the bad guy, bullyhead , and whatsoever... I don't think they're very trustworthy. Everyone knows how Dino manages his bands, and how coldhearted he can be. This time, i will go for Vext side.

Dino is a overrated fat pig. Fear factory sucked in the beginning & only got better - still shitty - after Dino was out. Never even gave divine hearsay a chance cause I couldn't stand FF that much. Fuck Dino & Vext really do look like a bunch of cocksmokers!!!

Man this is just not music at all. No singing ass! I hate to think that there is some badass metal band out there that will never get a chance meanwhile feces like this keeps getting pushed on us. The industry has a way of trying to make existing bands seem old and outdated because the industry says so but I think they are wrong. The world really could have done without any of these guys releasing records. No memorable licks or lyrics. Just a bunch of cut and paste crap as usual. Then kids make fun of LuLu. I would listen to that over this any day!!!!
