GEOFF TATE Signs Solo Deal With INSIDEOUT MUSIC - June 25, 2012
Geoff Tate, the legendary QUEENSRŸCHE frontman and one of the most acclaimed vocalists in the history of hard rock and heavy metal, has signed a worldwide recording contract with InsideOut Music.

"I'm very excited to join forces with InsideOut Music," says Tate of his multi-album deal. "They are very committed to progressive music and care deeply for their artists, working together with them to bring music lovers worldwide some of the most compelling rock music available."

"Obviously, we at the label have been fans of Geoff for a long time," says InsideOut Music founder Thomas Waber. "We are looking forward to working with such a renowned musician. Welcome to the InsideOut Music family!"

Geoff Tate is currently finishing production on his first InsideOut Music release. The album is planned for release this fall, with details to be announced in the coming weeks.

When asked about the sound of his new solo album, Tate told AnthologySD.com, "Well, it's very different from my last one, for sure. It's a new bunch of people I've been working with to write and record it, so that changes things. When you're working with different people, it really changes the record. This one is really hard rock. The last one was really all over the place with different styles of music and everything, but this one really keeps with the hard rock style. It does it in kind of a different way — more of my way or what I would envision. I guess it's experimental in some ways, while in others it's very traditional. What I tried to do was take traditional rock instrumentation and apply it in kind of a different song structure. That's what I would best describe it as. [laughs]"

Tate released his first solo CD in 2002 on Sanctuary Records. Self-titled, the LP was a huge departure from the work he had previously done with QUEENSRŸCHE.

"[Sanctuary weren't really a record company. Sanctuary was a money-making machine and they went out of business very quickly," Tate told Oregon Music News earlier this month. "I'm glad to be done with that actually."

QUEENSRŸCHE members Michael Wilton, Eddie Jackson, Scott Rockenfield and Parker Lundgren announced on June 20 that they were parting ways with Tate and recruiting powerhouse vocalist Todd La Torre of CRIMSON GLORY as his replacement. The new QUEENSRŸCHE lineup has already performed live, having played two successful shows in their home city of Seattle under the name RISING WEST.

Fan-filmed video footage of Tate's June 7 solo performance at Canyon Club in Agoura Hills, California can be seen below.

you wouldn't think Inside Out would sign him, he has been going for more of a singer/songwriter vibe?! And still radio silence from his camp on the QR situation, very strange!!!

Thomas Waber, you just made a really bad investment.

Queensryche's last record 'Dedicated to Chaos' only sold 8K copies in the first week, and has barely done much beyond that.

How many copies do you really think a Geoff Tate solo record will move? Even now with him being kicked out of Queensryche?

The Queensryche fanbase wants nothing to do with Tate's terrible music and pop/adult contemporary sound. They won't buy this record.

I say it will be lucky to move 2 - 3,000 copies. I hope InsideOut gets a cut of the touring revenues, because that is the only place Tate can make money. And even that will be paltry when you're drawing a few hundred people to your shows - if even that!

Bad investment decision.

I would imagine this whole QR band situation is going to change the dynamics of this album Geoff is working on. I wouldn't be surprised if the album rocked a little more than previously intended; it's more than a side project now.

I really have mixed emotions over all this QR drama. On one hand, it seemed like Geoff was driving QR into the ground and something had to be done. On the other hand, Geoff is such a huge part of the band, it is hard for me to fathom QR without him. The reason I originally got into QR was Geoff Tate.

I mean think about bands like Journey or Judas Priest; when the lead singer is that much of the band's persona, it is hard for even a spot-on sound-alike to replace them. Geoff has also been QR's main song writer since DeGarmo's departure.

My hope is that both the band Queensryche and Geoff Tate come out of this better for it and both entities rock our socks off, however, the reality is that it rarely turns out that way and the whole is much much more than the sum of the parts.

Best of luck to all.

All this Queensryche shit is moving too quickly. Is the band without him on vocals putting out their album next week?

It all died with Chris DeGarmo almost 15 yrs ago. He wrote everything. They have been rehashing MindCrime & Empire ever since Chris left to become a pilot. Tate's will have to find writers. Queensryche will go on rehashing MindChrime & Empire.

Recheck those writing credits. Some of the best tracks were Wilton's as well. Fact is, Tate is not speaking about the QR situation because he doesn't care to address it. He feels he is above it, above the fans as well.

Inside Out sounds like a good label name for him, because he turned Queensryche inside out. Looking forward to the epic fail sales numbers this fall on the next Taint album.

Actually it's a good new. Maybe the guys of this prog record company could give him some orientation to do -finally- a good record. I really wish luck to Geoff Tate. I just can't forget all that he has done between 1983-1994, and I only can be grateful for that.

Am I the only one who thinks Tate's first album isn't all that bad? Surely it's not metal, but it's not a bad record. Just saying that even though Tate may be a wine sipping, cheese tasting, eye liner wearing douche bag, the guy has talent. He also has a great voice, maybe not as spectacular in range as in the first couple of queensryche albums, but he still does.

I didn't buy the last queensryche album after listening to the samples, but if a new Tate album sounds good and has cero duets with his five year old kid, I'll give it a chance. Put some passion on those vocals and good production though...

I can't wait to hear the new Queensryche. You know they want to prove that they can still put out great progressive metal music. They're hungry and I'm sure the new singer is dying to show everyone he can handle the front-man slot in Queensryche.

I think those guys are going to put out some killer music.

Geoff has been mailing it in for awhile. His recent performances have been horrendous. He doesn't seem to give a shit anymore. He seems to just put out half-hearted music and go not tour because that's his job. He doesn't seem to love it anymore. He's been going through the motions for years.

I watched M3 and Rocklahoma (which ended up being Geoff's last show with QR) on HD Net. The band was tight and sounded great. Geoff's singing was half-hearted, embarrassing at times and he was a shadow of his former self.

good one---tongue in cheek.

Cello duets you meant, not cero. Hopefully the 300 albums they will sell to the old soccer moms who liked silent lucidity on the radio in 1990 will enjoy all the trade off vocals with Tate's 4 daughters. The old ladies will fully appreciate all the synthesizer and easy sing along songs in octave ranges even they can reach. How quaint!

Hopefully we can laugh at new videos including Geoff hanging out on his multi million dollar yacht sipping wine and shoving cheese in his cheeks.

With Geoff out living in his own world, I wonder if the rest of Queensryche with new guy on the mic can return to the business of writing some semi-serious prog metal?

Why is Geoff Taint mentioned on Blabbermouth, doesn't he hate metal? I mean, Barry Manilow is more rock/metal than this clown.

Actually, yes. They're laying down the vocals for an album of re-recorded classics in a couple of weeks. T

They've also removed all of Tate's pictures from the website and cropped/photoshopped him out of all their albums, merchandise, press photos, etc.

...not really though.
