SLIPKNOT's JORDISON On Next Album: 'This Will Be Our Deepest, Most Celebrated Record' - June 25, 2012
U.K.'s Terrorizer conducted an interview with SLIPKNOT drummer Joey Jordison for the magazine's July 2012 issue. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

On SLIPKNOT's original guitarist Donnie Steele, who will join the band on the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival shows and will again be playing bass from backstage, out of the view of the crowd:

Joey: "The other guy [Donnie] is not allowed onstage, no fucking way. He is behind the stage and he does a great job. We are nine people and we, unfortunately, lost one. [SLIPKNOT bassist Paul Gray was found dead of an overdose of morphine and fentanyl at a hotel in Urbandale, Iowa in May 2010.] But it doesn't matter; we are still nine. We can never replace Paul, but that's why I brought Donnie into the band. He was the first guitarist who played before I came into the picture, when we were THE PALE ONES. He is really cool guy and very mellow.

"We haven't decided on another bassist yet. We don't want any marquee names or anything like that. It doesn't make sense to bring anyone in from another band that's huge. We want to keep it in the family, and he's part of our family and it's been great ever since."

On SLIPKNOT's next album:

Joey: "So far, I've written and recorded 40 songs. . . Everyone is writing stuff, but people want to do other projects [vocalist Corey Taylor and guitarist Jim Root are working on a new STONE SOUR album; percussionist Shawn M. Crahan has released a photography book], and so I'm writing alone until we can all come together. Then we can start playing and go from there. That's how we wrote 'Prelude', 'The Blister Exists'. It's how we start a lot of songs.

"This will be our deepest, most celebrated record. The journey is that we are trying to live our lives, just like everyone else is trying ot live theirs. We all have weird shit in our lives and a lot of our songs reflect that. On the next record, we will be exorcising, getting out a lot of the crap that I think, personally, we have held in too much, against each other."

On the kinds of emotions that will come out on the next SLIPKNOT CD:

Joey: "Both positive and negative. Jealousy? That doesn't exist in this band. That is the worst emotion; it kills people. You know who fucking does that? It's the press, and it just pisses us off. People [journalists] keep putting words in our mouth. If they want to keep doing it, keep doing it, because it's pissing us off right now. Everyone on the outside — journalists, business manager, accountant — this album will be the worst in terms of 'fuck you.' 'Iowa' was kind of playful. This one, as far as emotions go, is going to connect with everyone way more than any of our others."

On Crahan's statement to Terrorizer in 2011 that he wasn't sure if he wanted to do SLIPKNOT anymore:

Joey: "I don't believe that at all. Plus, there isn't any shit that needs to be 'repaired,' like there's a rift between bandmembers. We all do other stuff. There are no fights. We are getting along so well right now. The feeling is like it was in 1999 when we first came out. Corey and I understand each other more than we ever have. The thing is that we have never not gotten along; it's the fucking press that turned us against each other. In fact, I brought Corey into SLIPKNOT. Back then, no one even wanted him in the band."

I hope he never forgets being thrown shit at and booed at Hellfest a few years back... but I'm afraid even that won't keep his ego down.

I don't care who you are or who your bassist was, making the new guy toil in the background like he doesn't exist is fucking bullshit.

My best friend in the world died in November and you don't see me trying to punish all the people around me for not being as awesome as he was. These guy's need to deal with this instead of hiding from it.

With the way they're treating the position I'm surprised anyone is willing to play bass for them.

In my opinion the band lost it's dark energy after Iowa. They became comercial which is fine for them to make some cash, which they did. It will be hard to capture that feel again.

Kiss replaced Ace with the Wizard & Peter with the Cat. Manson had Zim Zum then John 5. Knot can give the next guy a Negative number (who is not a poser...genuine) & let him onstage. What Korn did was lame but those dudes missed the mark in that to fit Korn, you "have" to be from SoCal to get it & have that "look" & vibe. The masked bands are different...but geography does help in regards to the roots aspect. It's like a guy from Arizona trying to replace Euronymous in Mayhem. They'll sound happy.

Not to hard to get "deeper" when you have been playing in the Kiddie pool for so long.

Didn't Slipknot say that All Hope Is Gone was going to be their heaviest, most punishing album ever? My money says we get another "Stoneknot" album.

I loved Slipknot's self-titled album and Iowa, but I just have a hard time taking anything this band says seriously, especially considering the way they treat Donnie Steel.

"The other guy [Donnie] is not allowed onstage, no fucking way."

Wow. That's one of the most asshole statements I've ever read. "The other guy?" He has the nerve to backhand him like he's the enemy within the band or something, then he goes on to compliment what a cool guy he is. What a prick.

Ok, their buddy died a little while ago now (selfishly and by his own hand I might add), and these guys (who think they are so badass) still want everyone to tip-toe around them, (cuz they've had it rough, ok??).
Go away. Go to hell. Just fucking go somewhere else.
I hope the "other guy" Donnie shits on all of their backs.

Hey Slipknots, your bass player is dead and gone, ok? He was a fucking selfish piece of shit junkie who cared more for his drugs than his family or your suckass band and that's why he died by himself in a cheap motel room with his drugs. Get over it already. That happened two years ago.

It's so obvious all these jerkoffs are still in total denial about this. I read a similar statement from that Clown keg banger who said something totally disrespectful as well for the replacement guy.

Why not just bring a cardboard cut out of Paul Gray and put that on stage?

I hope the scab bass player is getting a decent paycheck to sit in the shadows.

Those first 2 albums are classic, then they started gettin a lil off the path from what I wanted musically from them. They still write some good shit, but they need to drop the acoustic guitars and tripped out filler shit.

They need Ross Robinson back as well. He helped them on the first 2 albums...and then they went downhill with Rick Rubin and the last one where Jim said he hated the recording process. SK needs Ross back to help them. Like I said...he did the first 2 albums...its a no brainer.

That "other guy" is the original guitarist, yet he's not allowed on the fucking stage? And they are 'trying to keep it in the family'...
Thats major disrespect.
Disgusting beyond words.
They way that they are dealing with this makes me loose my respect for this band...
