BLAZE BAYLEY Interviewed By 'The Metal Voice' (Video) - June 24, 2012
The Metal Voice recently conducted an interview with British heavy metal vocalist Blaze Bayley (IRON MAIDEN, WOLFSBANE). Blaze talks about his new solo album, "The King Of Metal"; his future tour plans and his struggles with depression. You can now watch the 20-minute chat below.

Bayley's new studio album, "The King Of Metal", was released in March. The CD was recorded at Fear Studio in Ravenna, Italy.

In a recent interview with Metal Blast, Bayley stated about "The King of Metal", "This album is a bit more back towards my classic metal style; it's closer to the 'Silicon Messiah' and 'Tenth Dimension' albums. Although I didn't plan it that way, this is how it has worked out. . . I've been working very closely with a young guitar player called Thomas Zwijsen, who has co-written most of the songs, and it has worked very well. Now, the title track, 'The King Of Metal', is dedicated to the fans, because they are the real kings of metal. Without the fans, there's no heavy metal, and I think that people trivialize that and even disrespect heavy metal fans, compared to fans of pop or jazz. I've called the album 'The King Of Metal' as a tribute to heavy metal fans, thanks to whom it has been possible for me to have such a wonderful career and spend my life as a professional singer."

When asked about the recording process for "The King Of Metal", Blaze recently told Metal Shock Finland, "I don't like to spend a lot of time in the studio, I don't feel it's a very creative environment. I like to spend most of my time on an album in the writing process and the composing. I feel that's the bit that really counts. I'm always thinking of the audience, the fans and how I'm going to perform the songs live."

I think Blaze has a good baritone voice but he wasn't right for Maiden. His strength is his lower register rather than the high soaring stuff. That's why he wasn't a good fit with Maiden.

That being said, I could imagine Blaze sounding incredible in a Nevermore-esq kind of a band.

I pretty much liked all of Blaze's solo albums up until now but i heard such mixed reports plus the songs that leaked early were not great.

The Man Who Would Not Die was great though.

"King of Metal you're not. You should take your generic, bland voice and go home."

And what are you going to take with you when you fuck off? A hard drive full of stolen MP3's, a wank bank of porn and the last of your mommy's spare change.

Arsehole.

...but he's understandably had horrid luck. Hard to be in the shadow of Bruce Dickinson and be held responsible for something out of his control- poor output from Iron Maiden. His post maiden career is quite good.

Silicon Messiah and Promise and Terror are my favourite records by Blaze.

Blaze is pure class. Is there a harder working guy in Metal? Love all his albums including the maiden ones, he got a hard gig there. Blaze rules live with his own band and is as good as anyone. His songs are obviously based on his recent personal tragedies and ongoing recovery. Pure class and criminally underrated by the metal community. Listen to his stuff properly a few times before comparing it to your formulaic image driven growly shite.
