KAMELOT Announces New Singer - June 22, 2012
American/German symphonic metallers KAMELOT have announced the addition of Scandinavian singer Tommy Karevik to the group's ranks.

The general public may not be overly familiar with the 30-year-old Swede Karevik, but people in the industry know him as the immensely talented frontman of the Swedish band SEVENTH WONDER.

Commented KAMELOT guitarist Thomas Youngblood: "We had around 800 candidates for the vacant position, among them a number of really renowned musicians, and having to reject them really wasn't easy. We want to thank all the applicants, thank you for your understanding and we wish you all lots of success in the future!"

In their search for a new singer, Youngblood found YouTube to be an amazing tool: "I listened to a clip of a studio production featuring Tommy and have to confess that his performance really amazed me," he said. "His approach to melodies and themes suits KAMELOT perfectly, and during our European shows we had plenty of opportunity to find out what a great guy he is."

Tommy first appeared as one of the guest singers on KAMELOT's very successful 2011 Pandemonium World Tour (see footage below). Tommy states: "The tour was a lot of fun and I met a lot of nice people and got some good experience. The guys were super nice and we had a great time together! By then I was really into the band's music and had fallen in love with the amazingly loyal and dedicated fans at every show."

Karevik is thrilled about his new position. "I am so honored to now be a part of this family and I can't wait to move into the new era of the band together with the guys," he said. "I fully understand that this comes with great responsibility and that it will be a big challenge for me as a singer as well as a person, but you can rest assured I will give it my all. From this day, a new journey has begun and I am really eager to meet you all along the way to share my passion for this music!"

Youngblood on the style and content of the concept album: "The new songs sound more symphonic and melodic than our last two studio recordings. The material brings to mind albums such as 'Karma' (2001) and 'The Black Halo' (2005). In addition, this will be the best production that KAMELOT have ever delivered. Because while other acts tend to opt for low-budget productions due to the difficult market situation, we have gone the opposite way: the new album will be a real statement, in terms of our compositions as well as in terms of our sound."

"Our new album marks another step and a new chapter for KAMELOT and our amazing fans!"

KAMELOT will support Finnish/Swedish symphonic metallers NIGHTWISH on a North American tour in September and October.

KAMELOT's recently completed North American, South American and European tours featured guest singer Fabio Lione of RHAPSODY OF FIRE following the departure of KAMELOT's longtime frontman, Roy Khan.

He's an amazing singer, great choice but I hope he's still staying with Seventh Wonder. Their last two albums are far superior to most of Kamelot's discography.

I totally agree! Tommy's perfect in Seventh Wonder and that band is one of the best "new" bands at the moment. Don't want to see them fall by the wayside.

Although I had been campaigning for Michael Erikson, I am happy with Kamelot's decision, Tommy is a great vocalist and does fit the "image" of Kamelot a bit more than Michael. Being a huge Kamelot fan I will miss Khan, but I do look forward to Kamelot's new chapter. I was really getting nervous with some of the Edu and Fabio rumors, although great singers in their own right, they just wouldn't have been a good fit for Kamelot.

Didn't think he was very good filling in at ProgPower. I'll check out the new Kamelot, but I'm not sure the vocals will compare to Khan. I thought Fabio Lione did a way better job filling in than this guy.

That was Michael Eriksen of Circus Maximus.

Do some research before posting.

I just mistyped/thought the location, not the person. Saw both. The point remains the same. He was not very good IMO. PS Don't get your panties in a twist when posting.

owed it at the show I saw, much more the style of Kamelot then Fabio. Plus Fabio has Rhapsody, he is too busy to be in two big bands. I love this choice!

Actually, Fabio did say he was very interested in joining and could do both Kamelot and Rhapsody of Fire. I guess they just decided to go a different way. Can't help being a bit disappointed. This guy just isn't nearly as good of a vocalist as Khan or Fabio.

RIGHT NEXT to a Geoff Tate story, and nobody has made a crack about him being or auditioning to be the new singer?

This is a sad day for Blabbermouth.

but Karevik seems like a great choice. Agree with many, Fabio is excellent, did an admirable fill-in job, but Karevik seems like a better fit for Kamelot.

Haven't heard much SW before. Picked up The Great Escape upon hearing this news; it's excellent and Karevik shines on it.

That said, why must we persist with the whole "this is good news, but SW slays Kamelot" line of commentary??? They are both excellent bands, period. (And a breakdown of the relative technical skills of each player is pointless IMO.)

If you like modestly noodly, Kansas-inspired, prog rock/metal then you'll prefer SW. If you like bombastic, symphonic power metal with dark, goth undertones then you'll prefer Kamelot. It's all good in my book.

One thing you don't hear from Karevik in the SW material, however, is the darker-edged low end that Khan employed at times. Will be interesting to hear if Karevik explores more of that side of his voice with Kamelot.

Check out "Mercy Falls" by SW. Tommy does some Khan-esque stuff on there. Plus that record is insanely awesome. Well worth the purchase.

Tommy is easily one of the best vocalists in the genre. His voice speaks for itself. What a fantastic choice.
