KERRANG! Magazine's 'Covered' Tribute To METALLICA's Black Album; Cover Artwork Unveiled - June 20, 2012
RISE TO REMAIN, DEVILDRIVER and YOUR DEMISE are among the artists who are featured on the 21st-anniversary tribute to METALLICA's 1991 self-titled fifth album, commonly known as "the black album," made available with this week's (June 20) issue of U.K.'s Kerrang! magazine.

Enitled "The Black Album: Covered", the CD features the following track listing:

01. RISE TO REMAIN - "Enter Sandman"
02. YOUR DEMISE - "Sad But True"
03. DEVILDRIVER - "Holier Than Thou"
04. THE DEFILED - "Unforgiven"
05. YASHIN - "Wherever I May Roam"
06. HAWK EYES - "Don’t Tread On Me"
07. EVILE - "Through The Never"
08. LOSTALONE - "Nothing Else Matters"
09. SAVAGE MESSIAH - "Of Wolf And Man"
10. BLACK SPIDERS - "The God That Failed"
11. MOTIONLESS IN WHITE - "My Friend Of Misery"
12. DEVIL SOLD HIS SOUL - "The Struggle Within"

"Metallica" in 2009 surpassed SHANIA TWAIN's 1997 record, "Come On Over", as the best-selling CD of the SoundScan era. To date, the black album has sold more than 15.7 million copies in the United States.

Although METALLICA had scored their first radio and video airplay with their previous effort, 1988's "...And Justice For All", the black album was the band's biggest commercial breakthrough, producing five singles and making them into one of the most popular rock bands in the world.

METALLICA will play the complete "black album" at its own Orion Music + More festival, scheduled for June 23-24 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. METALLICA is headlining both days and will perform its entire 1984 album "Ride The Lightning" for the first time ever on the other day of the festival.

..... Kerrang used to be a pretty decent read, when Geoff Barton was editor or even Phil Alexander - but I picked up a copy the other week just for the hell of it and........ don't bother.

Evile are just about the only band there I'm interested in. I'm not a huge fan of the original album anyway, not bothered about hearing a bunch of no mark bands cover it.

A band as big as is Metallica and, these bands are the best they could get to cover one of metal's biggest selling records? Where is the incentive to buy this?

It is sometimes quite interesting to listen to a covertune, but the most important thing is: Who covers the song!

On this sampler aren't that many interesting bands in my opinion. The bands that appeared on the "Metal Hammer Version" were a little more interesting:

....Still sounds better than these considering I did it in about an hour using less than $500.00 worth of gear. I get that they're just covers, but they sound like they were recorded on a 1988 Tascam 4 track. All these Kerrang and metal hammer cover specials sound like this, the Metal Hammer version of this Black album thing sounds even worse. Check out my cover of Creeping Death...I couldn't even afford a microphone for fucks sake...

No, I'm not trying to plug my shit and use Bmouth as a vehicle for a commercial considering I don't even have a band, I played everything myself and I don't even have a CD to sell....
