LACUNA COIL's Tribute To Fallen TYPE O NEGATIVE Frontman - Jan. 12, 2012
Vocalist Andrea Ferro of Italian heavy rockers LACUNA COIL revealed in a new interview with Bulgaria's Tangra Mega Rock radio (stream audio below) that "My Spirit", the last song on the band's new album, "Dark Adrenaline", is dedicated to Peter Steele of TYPE O NEGATIVE, who died a couple of years ago. Ferro said, "H? was a big friend of ours because we toured together and have been friends for many years and the night we knew he'd died, Marco [Coti Zelati], the [LACUNA COIL] bass player, wrote all the music that night, so it was a very spontaneous tribute to our friend."

Steele passed away on April 14, 2010 from heart failure. He was 48 years old.

In a statement released shortly after Steele's passing, LACUNA COIL singer Cristina Scabbia said, "I haven't heard such bad news in a long time.

"I am apalled, speechless.

"Silence is more respectful in these circumstances, I know. But everyone who knows me knows that Peter and TYPE O were (and are) an IMMENSE influence in my musical taste and beside that Pete was a charismatic, intense, funny, fantastic person.

"I treasure the moments we spent together on this road and I know he's rockin' out both heaven and hell right now.

"My deepest condolences to Johnny, Kenny, Josh and Peter's family.

"I will miss you, brother, my influence and adorable giant.

"We'll meet again somewhere, someday."

In a separate statement, Ferro wrote, "These are a few words from a comic book that I'd like to use to remember Pete Steele.

"Thanks a lot for the great journey I had (and will always have) with your music. Thanks a lot for the inspiration and friendship, R.I.P.

"He saw the true face of the 20th century and chose to become a reflection, a parody of it. No one else saw the joke, that's why he was lonely. Heard joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life seems harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain. Doctor says, 'Treatment is simple. Great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go and see him. That should pick you up.' Man bursts into tears. Says 'But, doctor...I am Pagliacci.' Good joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drum. Curtains fade to black. (Rorschach)"

A great loss.

I have a problem with the term "fallen" though. This is used to describe people who fell in battle, it's a war term and should be reserved for those who've done just that.

Pete Steele was a great musician and I loved his work but he wasn't in a war and please don't tell me that being in a band is a type of war or he was a metal soldier or any of that rubbish.

Rest easy Pete.

Peter fought a war within himself battling a heavy cocaine addiction. He succumbed to it, but he died a sober man and found christ through it all.

You are missed every day Petrus, hail Brooklyns fallen hero.

And with that being said; YOU STILL SUCK PETE!!!

The first time I saw either Lacuna Coil or Type O Negative live was in 2003 when Lacuna Coil was opening for Type O. It is a treasured memory.

I think they've really captured the TON vibe on that song.
