MUDVAYNE 'On Hiatus' For At Least Two More Years - Nov. 21, 2011
MUDVAYNE guitarist Greg Tribbett has confirmed via Twitter that the band is currently on hiatus while he and singer Chad Gray "are concentrating on HELLYEAH," their band with drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott (PANTERA, DAMAGEPLAN), guitarist Tom Maxwell (NOTHINGFACE) and bassist Bob "Zilla" Kakaha (DAMAGEPLAN). According to Greg, HELLYEAH will be on the road for "the next two years" in support of its forthcoming third album, which is due in early 2012.

It's been almost two years since MUDVAYNE released its self-titled fifth album and little has been heard about the band since then. But in a late 2010 interview with the music blog Warwick, bassist Ryan Martinie discussed the group almost entirely in the past tense. When asked about the quartet's musical evolution, Martinie said, "I think that what we did is valuable. It's become a cog in the wheel of music in some sort of way. We are a piece of musical history now . . . We were always just responding to our environment. I always saw the band to be important as an aspect of my life, as something that was supposed to take us places that are positive, and in that sense everything that happened with the band has happened for a reason."

Martinie also hinted that he was working on his own musical project, but said, "Nothing is really solidified in terms of who I'm working with. But yes, of course, I will share it with the world when the time comes and it's something relevant that I'm happy with."

MUDVAYNE did not tour behind its fifth album, which was barely promoted and sold weakly upon release.

Back in February 2010, The Pulse Of Radio asked MUDVAYNE drummer Matt McDonough about the band's future. "I think with any artist it's important to have moments to decompress, to kind of self-reflect," he said. "We're kind of reacting to this whirlwind of activity that we've done for years, and now we're kind of letting the dust settle on the rubble and just giving ourselves time to breathe, and to kind of come back after reflecting and deciding what we're gonna do."

You obviously know nothing about Mudvayne at all...they arent even close to mainstream band, not even close to being rich either. Sure they had a lot of success with Lost and Found, but that's about it really. Mudvayne>Hellyeah and im pissed that I have to wait another two years to see my favorite band live again...

Oh well...

Ryan Martinie hooks up with a band/artist worth of his skills. His abilities were/are completely wasted in Mudvayne.

All the pudgy Mudvayne fans can go put their face paint away.
Don't worry, you can always put on your cowboy hat and see a Hellyeah show.

I LIKE (not saying head over heels in love with) a few songs from the first album. That being said, it is bullshit that the group that got them fame (and the majority of fans and money, for that matter) is being shunned and ignored as if it embarrasses them. It makes me really want to throw away my copy of L.D. 50. If they don't care, why should I?

They are talented musicians. It's a shame that money speaks when your record label tries to fuck around with you. Ryan Martine and Matthew McDonough deserve a new band.

I like the first three records but I can't defend these guys for the abominations release after that. It's time to bury Mudvayne in the sand.

Self titled >>> Lost & Found.
But I assume by first three releases you mean Kil I Oughta, LD 50 and End? In that case, cool \m/

I just don't think Chad and Greg have it in them anymore. The last two Mudvayne records were shit! Their third one wasn't a whole lot better either. They really lost me after they ditched all the complexities of their early work for that more streamlined, made-for-radio sound.

L.D. 50 was excellent- lots of mathy stuff on there. TEOATTC felt like leftovers from L.D. 50 which was decent. Everything after that has been progressively dumbed down to generic radio rock. It's sad really. I doubt they'll ever get back to writing the way they used to.

True, but last album was their 'Death Magnetic', was a step in the right direction, and I didnt feel TEOATTC sounded like LD 50 left overs, but hey...

why would they wanna have to try and write music and make less money (mudvayne)... than writing some corny okie rock anthems about alcohol and partying and being an alcoholic partier and make more money(hellyeah)

of course theyre gonna stick with whats keepin them paid. people who listen to shit like hellyeah dont require much in the way of songs taking more than 6 or 7 minutes to write

I really enjoyed LD50, even the DVD for that tour kicks ass. I just can't get into the stuff after that which came across to me as more accessible.

With that said, Hell Yeh is fn terrible imo and a waste of Vinny's talent.

LD50: Great
TEOATTC: Good
Lost and Found: Commercial
Everything else: Forgettable

If they're not even going to tour behind a CD, then you can bet that their heart was not in it at all.

I like this band FAR more than Hellyeah. But Hellyeah would bring in the dollars, not because the music is better, but because every redneck stripper lovin' rocker who gives a damn about music would love Hellyeah. Mudvayne however competes with bands like Slipknot, who are more popular, and do a better job of promoting themselves, therefor selling more records and doing bigger tours.

Mudvayne did have talent though, their bass player and drummer killed it as a unit together, and in all honesty could form a band and continue making good music. Chad and Greg really are replaceable in my opinion.

Self titled was better than Lost & Found and The New Game. The New Game is the worst but listen to the title track of that album, its really good. Pity the other songs on the album weren't as strong...

The bass player was always the most talented and interesting part of the band. You'd think that he would already be out there working on some projects better than that Hell Yeah crap. Good luck to him. The Hell yeah guys don't need any luck, people actually seem to like the crap they're churning out and they're making some $$$ off of it...good for them I guess but just not my thing.

Saw em live a few times, it was a killer show. I loved L.D 50 but The End OF All Things Too Come was and is there best album. I didn't like anything after that, if they can reconnect sometime and get their power back great if not who cares.
