IRON MAIDEN: 'From Fear To Eternity' New Release Date Announced; Promo-Only CD Single Detailed - May 6, 2011
EMI has set a June 6 release date for "From Fear To Eternity: The Best Of 1990-2010". A double-CD set spanning twenty years this follows the huge success of 2010's studio album "The Final Frontier" which hit the number one spot in 28 countries around the world. It also became the band's highest-charting album in the USA where IRON MAIDEN have just been awarded their first Grammy for "Best Metal Performance", for the song "El Dorado", taken from "The Final Frontier" album, and which is included in this selection.

A special two-track promo-only CD single is being made available featuring "The Wicker Man", which originally appeared on the album "Brave New World", released in 2000, and was a U.K. Top Ten hit, and "The Reincarnation Of Benjamin Breeg", which was the lead track from 2006's "A Matter Of Life And Death" album.

IRON MAIDEN's current phenomenal global success has seen the band not only scale new-found heights aided by their unique method of touring, using a customized Boeing 757 — named Ed Force One by their fans — to transport band, crew and all their equipment round the world to many new places, but has meant their ever-expanding fanbase now encompasses a brand new generation of metal lovers. "From Fear To Eternity" is a chance for these new fans of the band to explore IRON MAIDEN's rich history, with the highlights of their last eight studio albums distilled into this handy collection, which follows 2009's compilation of their earlier work, the 1980-1990 "Somewhere Back In Time" album.

Perennial favourites to be found on this album include songs also featured in MAIDEN's current "The Final Frontier World Tour" set list; tracks such as "Fear Of The Dark", "The Wicker Man", "Blood Brothers" and "Dance Of Death" sit alongside recent classics "El Dorado" and the hauntingly evocative "When The Wild Wind Blows". It also include singles like "Holy Smoke" and "Be Quick Or Be Dead" together with more progressive thought-provoking album tracks like "Afraid To Shoot Strangers" and "For The Greater Good Of God". This new collection charts the musical development of Britain's most successful metal band as they have evolved their sound, producing longer, more complex songs, gaining huge critical acclaim in the process. Featuring many of the epics for which the band has become renowned, it is accordingly released as a double CD, but will retail for the price of a single album.

The full track listing for the CD is as follows:

Disc 1

01. The Wicker Man
02. Holy Smoke
03. El Dorado

06. Man On The Edge (live)

sadly i think the bad was/is involved. it's the label that they are still on, so it's not like it's a cash-grab from an old label that owns the rights to the songs. nope, i think the IM guys are aware of and involved in this. LOVE Maiden, but this is totally lame...

They already have a lot of "best of" albums, and it seems quite poorly timed considering they have not long released an album. I would be very surprised if the band pushed for this, or would even approve of it.

Good tracklist on this release but I must say that the artwork for the first 2-decade best-of album Somewhere Back in Time completely and fully owns this artwork.

On canvas, on board, on paper or on the computer you cannot beat Derek Riggs. Period.

As a fan since the beginning, I hope & pray that there will be a third 2-decade best-of... 2010-2030... No Prayer For The Retired Somewhere Back In The Nursing Home.

By the first metallica releases their first greatest hits album, Maiden will have 16 greatest hits releases. Guess I can't complain, they did release new material less then a year ago.

greatest hits albums are seriously not a big deal to me. Especially when you're talking about a band with such a storied history as Maiden's. Best of albums are a great way for new coming fans to get a taste of what Maiden has to offer, and it's an easy way for long time fans to get a good mix of everything.
And yes, recently Maiden has released a lot of greatest hits albums (best of the beast, Edward the great, etc etc etc) but so what? If you don't want those records, don't buy them!

What I don't get is the album's name is a pun of here to eternity, and it's not even on the album.

It's a nice package, I just wish it focused on more from no prayer until XI. You could fit it on one cd, and it's focused on one era, instead of twenty years of maiden.

There really is no need for this. Should be titled worst of era aside from the brave new world album. Say what you want but they truely lost it after the 80's.

One of reasons I respect Metallica, and will never ever call them a sell-outs is because they have never had released and I am sure will never release a Greatest Hits shit. Also I remember back in 90's they had never participated in any of those cheap CD programs from Columbia House and so on, which I found a great non-commercial step. Kudos to musicians who don't cash on anything they can. Especially when they have own fucking planes already. Never liked Maiden anyways, a long same song since Piece of Mind.

They just sold out releasing Loaded, Reloaded, S&M, Garage Days vol 1,2,3,4,5,6,7... and, of course, doing crappy wanna-be-radio-friendly music after Justice... Ok.. the black album is cool... but sold out...

the last Maiden albums may not be like Piece of Mind or Somewhere in Time... but they are not doing sell-out music like Lars buddies...

Check it again, dude!

And I don't buy Best Of CDs too... If I'm a fan, I have to have all their studio albums... But I undestand that It's a pure commercial thing, to try to increase the fanbase... new fans won't buy all the records at once...

I don't care about it, but I see no problem on it... if you don't like it, don't buy it... simple!

It hurts me to say this, but I hope Final Frontier wasn't their last album because I was very disappointed. I don't hate their new stuff, but this one was just weak.

... to release "The Best of" albums today. It had some point long time ago, when there was no so much easy access to previous music of a band, there was no YouTube, P2Ps apps and all that stuff that enables everybody to check out any new band and decide: buy albums of those guys or not. Then you could pick "The Best of" and have some wider view on style and sound. Now, when two or three clicks and you can hear any sample, nobody but collectioners will buy "The Best of". But, hell, they want to loose the money invested in production - they can do it. Whatever.

the blaze era sucked! the music was maiden but his voice just did not fit the band at all. niw if they put out a instramental version of those songs it would be worth getting. the best thing about the blaze era was they had to tour clubs to promote it and I got to see them up close. aside from the vocals they were awsome!

Saw them twice in the clubs during the blaze era and it was truly awesome to see Maiden in such an intimate setting. Likewise, seeing Bruce and H on the Accident tour in the small clubs around the same time was equally if not more awesome. That was a once in a lifetime opportunity. Glad we were there!

.. not long after Bruce joined I saw them play under the name Ghengis Khan, it was someones birthday (Dave Murray possibly ?) and throughout the set people were running on with cream pies and the like to smash in each others faces. Towards the end of show I found myself right down the front, the stage was only like 10 inches higher than the crowd so I leaned forward and twanged Dave Murrays guitar during a solo. I thought it was bloody funny but if looks could kill..... True Story.

Let me see if I can explain this in a way that is understandable to the average IQ of posters on this website:

- they toured the first era of albums and released a best of
- they are will now likely tour the second era of albums and are therefore also releasing a best of.

There are still a young generation of fans getting into them, so why not.

Not like someone is holding a gun to your head forcing you to buy this so calm down ya morons!

I honestly don't understand why some of you bother getting up in the morning. You are all suck in the 80's. Yeah, they released great music then, but they released great music after. You all seem to think that bands just just roll over and die and record nothing new. That is absurd. Get real.

But, I do like the fact that they didn't go full-on chronological with it. Or reverse-chronological, like the original release version of "Best Of The Beast." I assume the Blaze-era tunes with Bruce singing are from "Rock In Rio" - or maybe "Death On The Road"... I might assemble this as a playlist in the Itunes, just to see how this mix of the songs sounds played back... And - it's only a cash grab if you compulsively buy anything with their name on the label...

total lack of respect for true Maiden fans, Blaze was part of this band and his voice should be on this release, he and Bruce are great friends, he is loyal to Maiden community and he still plays Maiden songs, and from that 2 albums we have some very good songs, shame on the label and who ever approved this release
