IRON MAIDEN: Details Of Buenos Aires, Santiago DVD Shoot Revealed - Apr. 7, 2011
IRON MAIDEN's April 8 and April 10 concerts in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Santiago, Chile, respectively, will be professionally filmed and recorded for a future DVD release.

In a recent interview with Chile's Futuro 88.9 FM, IRON MAIDEN bassist Steve Harris stated about the DVD upcoming shoot, "We will record two shows. We will use footage from both concerts for the DVD.

"We have amazing supporters in Chile and Argentina and we want to show more of the audiences from those parts of the world. We already filmed some footage there for the 'Flight 666' movie, but only one song per country was used. We will now have a chance to show much more of the crowds in Chile and Argentina.

"Wherever we go, we are always asked what the best audiences in the world are, and we always say that it is South America — Chile, Argentina and Sao Paulo, Brazil. Now we can show it."

When asked if the setlist for the Buenos Aires and Santiago concerts will be the same as the one the band has been playing on the current "Final Frontier World Tour", Harris said, "The setlist that we are playing is basically the same we have been playing on this tour, what you have been able to see on Internet. The sets that we will do in Chile and Argentina will be the same, but for these two special shows that will be recorded, we have prepared more songs and a bigger production. So what you will see in Chile will be a long and big show."

Regarding how many cameras will be used to capture the performances, Harris said, "I think it will be about 10 or 12. I had always been involved in the production and direction of the concert DVDs in the past, but we are now working with a very good company, the guys who made the documentary 'Flight 666'. They are the ones who are responsible for recording these shows, so for me at least it is a great relief."

IRON MAIDEN was honored with a Grammy in the "Best Metal Performance" category in the pre-telecast ceremony at the 53rd annual Grammy Awards, which was held on February 13 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. IRON MAIDEN was nominated for the track "El Dorado", from the band's 2010 album "The Final Frontier".

"The Final Frontier" sold 63,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to enter The Billboard 200 chart at position No. 4.

"The Final Frontier" was IRON MAIDEN's fourth U.K. No. 1 album. The band previously topped the chart in 1982 with "The Number of the Beast", in 1988 with "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" and in 1992 with "Fear of the Dark".

Now that you mention it, I do recall an announcement about the AMOLAD tour being released on home video as well. Maybe one day it will surface...hopefully, at least!

I attended the Meadowlands gig on that leg, but didn't notice any film crews or cameras (at least that I can recall) - any idea as to which show or shows were filmed for the potential release?

I think those were suppose to be the Donnington Shows at the time, but some of the professional footage was leaked on line too early, so that may be the reason why they didn't put it out.

I think its when Bruce fell while trying to get on the monitor...

that's the first thing I thought of too. They filmed it (Japan, I think) but it seemed to have been forgotten once they geared up for Flight 666.

That's Harris. When he edits the films, he likes that rapid-fire look. I agree; it made the Death On The Road DVD unwatchable. Since he's not doing this one it should be OK.

That is precisely why I won't buy the DVDs any more. I cannot stand that fast editing - gives me a headache. Not to mention - it would be nice to be able to focus on the stage set for more than a nano second-up - it's Maiden for crying out loud!

I personally can't stand concert DVD's. I just can't stand the camera angle changes every single second. I'm looking at the singer's left side one second, then I'm looking from behind the drums in the other and then back to the bass player and so on.

I would love a feature that has an audience view as if you were at the show.

I'll buy any live DVD that Maiden puts out.

They're an extremely dynamic live band that puts a lot of effort into putting on a BIG, FUN, EXCITING stage production.

The only thing I dislike is Steve Harris' manic editing. If he left it up to an actual professional (see Flight 666 or Live After Death), then the video would be 10x better.

But still...any live footage of Maiden ROCKS.

Top 5 best selling artists in South America

1. Julio Iglesias
2. Michael Jackson
3. ABBA
4. Madonna
5. Iron Maiden

And out of these, only Maiden are relevant now. Hence the love affair.

... Steve Harris stated about the DVD upcoming shoot, "We will record two shows. We will use footage from both concerts for the DVD."

Here´s an idea:

Why not do entirely different set lists for each of these two shows, not repeating a single song from the first show during the second show, and release both of the concerts in one huge package, like 2 dvd´s or something? And maybe a documentary with band interviews and backstage footage, etc.

That would give the fans the ultimate Iron Maiden DVD live experience. It would be something like 40 songs. There would be room for their hits and the more obscure, epic stuff.

Hey RiotAct666, you are the biggest music fan. Could you please call Mr. Harris about this idea?

This also fits in with Maiden's well established release cycle from the last 15 years or so:

1. Release album.
2. Tour new material.
3. Release DVD of new tour.
4. Release greatest hits CD.
5. Do a "classic" tour.
6. Release retrospective DVD.

Sometimes the order of release varies, as you can see the 1990-2010 greatest hits album has already been announced. But the basic business model stays the same.

As far as the AMOLAD, Bruce said they were filming a DVD at Donnington back in 2006 or 2007. My guess is they are saving this release until AMOLAD is considered to be a classic album. They will put this out to earn the band some retirement money sometime when they've stopped recording/touring. This band has very good business sense and I suspect we will be seeing many retrospective DVDs to keep the Iron Maiden brand alive once they retire.

"They will put this out to earn the band some retirement money sometime when they've stopped recording/touring."

Sounds like a plan - and that's what I also guess they'll do.

On the other hand, I think the Donnington performances I heared on YouTube sounded pretty sloppy. I attended the Stuttgart, Germany show in 2006 where Maiden performed the entire AMOLAD album and it was so mcuh tighter.

Maybe they changed their minds about releasing that Donnington show, but I guess that's unlikely.

What I'd REALLY want though, is as much live material from Somewhere On Tour and the FULL Maiden England show from the Seventh Tour Of A Seventh Tour. Plus bonus material. SIT and SSOASS are my favourite Maiden albums and those two are criminally overlooked, especially Somewhere In Time.

Can you say ethereal atmosphere?

Sorry Steve and Bruce, but you are dropping the ball on a regular basis when it comes to including that period into Maiden's life sets for more than 20 years now (and Adrian would agree, I guess)!

Give me "Walking on Glass" in high quality on DVD, please!

My favourite albums are the first two, but I love SIT and SSOSS as well. I bought the Maiden England VHS when it was released, that was my first Maiden VHS ever and that live show is simply amazing, really unbelievable. I can't wait for them to re-release it on dvd (with bonus material of course, as you said, I think they did a great job with Live After Death, adding "Behind the Iron Curtain" and tons of other stuff). I also would LOVE it if they played more material from such albums, track such as "The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner", "Alexander the Great" (I heard a rumour that Bruce doesn't like the lyrics, but fuck it, that song is incredible), "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son", "The Prophecy", "Only the Good Die Young"....these songs are pure works of art and they would go down a storm in a live setting. One can dream, can't he??

Yes, I own Maiden England on VHS, too. Bruce wasn't in his best shape there (on the internet I read something about Bruce catching a cold before the gig), but the SSOASS songs still sounded great. The overall show and especially the stage setting are awesome, but I think some of the "cassics", like The Prisoner, aren't that great on Maiden England. Compare that one to the version on Beast Over Hammersmith with Clive on drums. I wish Nicko's playing (and drum sound) would be closer to Clive's original performances, but what can you do. And why Maiden didn't include Infinite Dreams in the setlist of the Somewhere Back In Time tour instead of Fear Of The Dark is still beyond me. Long Distance Runner, Alexander and Only The Good Die Young are three of the songs I'd love to hear live. In a recent interview with Rock Hard Germany Dave (more or lesss jokingly) played around with the idea of a rarities tour. I'd pay my hard earned cash in a second and would travel far and wide to see such a show, but that won't happen I guess. Do you also own the 12 Wasted Years VHS? There is one hilarious playback performance of "Wasted Years" on German TV with Maiden switching around the instruments. I really hope they include that gem on the History Part III DVD, too. And yes, Adrian producing a Maiden album sounds like a great idea. Add Jens Bogren for mixing duties and you'll most likely get Maiden's best album since Seventh Son. I was very diappointed with the production and mix of The Final Frontier. Let's wait and see how the new songs sound on that planned DVD from South America.

There really is no quality footage from the Somewhere In Time tour. I remember reading an interview with Rod where he said that not getting a full show from that tour on video was one of his biggest regrets.

I'm waiting for Maiden to properly release "Maiden England" from the SSOASS tour.

I've watched quite a bit of the footage on YouTube and it's great (Bruce's voice is a bit dodgy at times, but otherwise awesome).

And yeah, I wish that Maiden had continued exploring the ethereal atmosphere and soundscapes from those two albums. That's why Adrian left in the first place.

Going to that stripped down rock sound on No Prayer was a HUGE mistake, and Bruce imitating Brian Johnson was ill-advised, to say the least.

What I would REALLY love is for Steve to let Adrian produce a Maiden album. Give him FULL creative control for ONE album. Adrian is by far the most creative member of Maiden right now...the possibilities of an Adrian-produced album make me salivate.

If you knew anything about Maiden, you'd know that they play a MINIMUM of five songs off every new album they tour on. How many other bands of Maiden's caliber have that much faith in their new material? Rush? That's about it.

Very true and I've always liked that about Maiden: First time I saw them live was on the "No Prayer on the Road" tour, and "No Prayer For the Dying" is hardly their best release and yet they played 6 songs off that one. Anthrax with Belladonna and Spitz were opening: Fucking amazing gig.

Very true: First time I saw Maiden live was on the "No Prayer on the Road" tour, "No Prayer for the Dying" is hardly their best album, but they still played 7 songs off of it: "Tailgunner", "Holy Smoke", "No Prayer for the Dying", "Public Enema Number One", "The Assassin", "Hooks in You" and "Bring Your Daughter... ...To the Slaughter", plus the usual classics. That was Janick's first tour with Maiden, Bruce introduced him and he played a KILLER solo (people disrespecting his playing abilities are clueless). Anthrax with Belladonna on vocals and Spitz on lead guitar were opening, they were touring in support of "Persistence of Time": Simply killer gig.

Or something like that anyway. Maybe if we were given more options and more control, then at least we could choose whether or not we want the damn strobe light editing or not.

More songs added for these shows. I'm guessing (if it's actually true) they will just add Run to the Hills and Wrathchild. A couple more new songs would be great, like Isle of Avalon, but that's just dreaming.
