IRON MAIDEN Announces 'The Final Frontier' North American Tour With DREAM THEATER - Mar. 4, 2010
British heavy metal legends IRON MAIDEN have set "The Final Frontier" as the title of their new studio album, due late summer of this year.

The announcement comes with news of a North American tour with very special guests DREAM THEATER to open in Dallas, Texas, on June 9 and finish in Washington D.C. on July 20, making it MAIDEN's most extensive North American tour in many years.

Following these shows in USA and Canada, "The Final Frontier World Tour" will travel back to Europe for a few selected major festival and stadium shows with the band planning to continue to many other countries in 2011.

An exclusive pre-sale allowing members of the IRON MAIDEN fan club first access to tickets to the North American MAIDEN shows will be made available two days prior to them being available to the public.

Tickets for the Canadian shows will go on sale to the public on Saturday, March 13 at 10 a.m. PST (10 a.m. EST for Toronto and 12 noon EST Montreal). Exclusive first access to the tickets will be available to IRON MAIDEN fan club members on Wednesday, March 10 at 10 a.m. PST through to Thursday, March 11 at 6 p.m. PST (EST for Toronto). Regretfully due to technical reasons an exclusive pre-sale in Montreal is not possible.

Tickets for the U.S. shows will go on sale to the public on Saturday, March 20 at 10 a.m. EST. Exclusive first access to the tickets will be available to IRON MAIDEN fan club members on Wednesday, March 17 at 10 a.m. EST through to Thursday, March 18 at 6 p.m. EST

As IRON MAIDEN are actively dedicated to ensuring their fans always have access to the best possible tickets at the fairest possible price, without being subject to scalping for good seats, so many North American shows will operate, at least in part, a paperless ticket policy.

To give IRON MAIDEN fan club members a privileged insight to their touring world, IMTV will return to www.ironmaiden.com to cover "The Final Frontier World Tour". This exclusive footage includes regular video from the live shows, touring, band interviews, insights into our crew and what they do and much much more. The website will also feature exclusive tour diaries, exclusive photographs and anything else that helps the fans get a real insight into the dynamics of a big tour.

"The Final Frontier 2010 North American Tour" dates:

Jun. 09 - Dallas, TX - Superpages.com Center
Jun. 11 - Houston, TX - Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion
Jun. 12 - San Antonio, TX - AT&T Center

IRON MAIDEN recorded "The Final Frontier" at Compass Point Studios in Nassau, Bahamas with producer Kevin Shirley. According to a posting on Kevin's official web site, "There's still work to do, but the band portion is complete and in the can, so to speak."

Shirley previously worked on the last three MAIDEN albums — 2000's "Brave New World", 2003's "Dance of Death" and 2006's "A Matter of Life and Death".

The next IRON MAIDEN album will be the band's fifteenth studio record, and they face a challenge to follow up "A Matter of Life and Death", which was received well critically and saw the group play the whole album on tour.

Speaking at last year's premiere of the band's documentary film "Iron Maiden: Flight 666", guitarist Adrian Smith stated, "There's always a bit of pressure to follow up the last album. In a way, it's good, because it motivates you.

"We never get complacent; we always try our best for our own sake as much as anything else. As far as pressure for another album, we just do what we do — we've been doing it long enough now; we know what we're doing. [laughs]"

IRON MAIDEN guitarist Janick Gers revealed to BBC News in November that the band was on its way "to Paris for three weeks to work on some new stuff." He added, "The most important thing for a band is to create new music, otherwise you're not valid — you become a parody."

IRON MAIDEN will headline this year's edition of the U.K.'s Sonisphere festival, which will be held Saturday, July 31, 2010 and Sunday, August 1, 2010 at Knebworth.

MAIDEN became the first outfit in history to travel round the world in a customized jet during their "Somewhere Back in Time" tour, as detailed in award-winning movie "Flight 666".

The Boeing 757 carried musicians, crew, gear and guests with singer Bruce Dickinson, a qualified airline pilot, at the controls.

But 'Final Frontier'!? I hope this isn't the end and I'm just reading too much into it, but Steve Harris has said he always saw the band as releasing 15 studio albums.....

Hmmmm, me is curious.

That's incredible.

Almost makes me regret the Slayer/Megadeth tickets (can't afford both).

Like, Megadeth is better than Maiden (I've seen them both already anywa), but Dream Theater (I haven't seen) is better than Slayer (Already seen).

I guess Testament will rule though.

If he hadn't explicitly said they would be back, I probably wouldn't mind, but geez, don't get your fans excited then bring a quality non-related opening act and not come. That's just cruel. Plus no Megadeth/Slayer/Testament or Megadeth/Testament/Exodus. I wonder why these bands all skip Florida, it's only the 3rd most populous state in the nation. Oh well.

I don't know, I just find Megadeth more consistent. Say what you will, but there are only a couple Maiden records I think are golden the whole way through. Lot of filler.

Whereas Megadeth's string of platinum's were all close to 100% great. And System Has Failed/United Abominations/Endgame are easily better than Dance of Death/AMoLoD...

Either way, Number of the Beast and Rust In Peace will always battle near the top of my best albums of all time list.

OUCH with the FL comments! Honestly though FL is a hit or miss state with tours. Fucking Paul McCartney announced five shows and South FL got one of them (I'm assuming because of the Super Bowl). Oh well, glad I caught Maiden at the show I did, which wasn't even on the original route. As Bruce said, 'we needed to stop for fuel so why not in Ft. Lauderdale FL?!'

The last 2 Maiden records just sound like rehashes of Brave New World, which was a genuinely solid album the whole way through.

I'd rather see shorter, rockier songs like the 80's material than more of this long prog stuff.

Hopefully they'll take the hint like Megadeth/Slayer/Metallica and recapture old sounds to make an acclaimed record.

I'm so going! From what Bruce said in the press release, this tour sounds a lot like the 2003 North American one. I remember they debuted "Wildest Dreams" there and then played songs from almost all the albums. Looks like we'll get one new song, and then a sweet retrospective on the band's full history.

Whole history of the band?

Maybe they should do at least one song off each album:

Phantom of the Opera
Killers
Hallowed be Thy Name
The Trooper
Two Minutes to Midnight
Wasted Years
The Clairvoyant
Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter
Fear of the Dark
Sign of the Cross
The Clansman
Wicker Man
Rainmaker
Benjamin Breeg
*untitled new song*

Then throw in:

Run to the Hills
Iron Maiden
Number of the Beast (for the usual fans)

Chris Broderick told me in an interview as to why most bands skip Florida. This is what he told me. "When we are sketching out a tour itinerary, Florida just turns out to be too far for everyone to take all of their crew, gear, lighting and other equipment to."

So I guess they have two choices .. to do a Florida show, a lesser showWITHOUT most of their own crew and equipment, or to skip it.

But having said all this, Maiden can DEFINITELY do at least one Florida show. I travelled from LA to last year's Fort Lauderdale show and I loved everything about that show. The band's performance, the venue and the crowd's response.

Kidwood- San Bernadino is basically the nearest outdoor shed to LA. There's TONS of metal shows out there. It's where ozzfest, mayhem, etc are.

Thanks to the other people who stated the reasons bands don't hit Florida a lot. It's not a new thing. To tour all the way to Miami is a major pain in the ass and a large expense. It's just easier to skip the state.

80smetal- Yeah, that was the tour where they TOLD PEOPLE THEY WERE ONLY PLAYING THE NEW ALBUM, and people complained when they did.

Did anyone else notice that this tour currently "ends" in Chicago? From there they can hit the whole midwest/southern states .

Of course, I'm stoked because they are coming to the lamely named "Comfort Dental" Amphitheater.

Go and drive intersate if you want to see them. Stop fucking sooking about it. At least they're going to your country!! Ohh, they not coming within 100miles of where I live, oohhh bloody hell, you don't care about me. For Christ Sakes. Nth America is way too spolit for tours and bands. You don't appreciate it enough. In OZ some travel across the country (3-5000k) to see bands. Take a day off and go for a drive.

And who the fuck knows anything about star treck and if so how are they linked to liking heavy metal as well?!!! Let alone correcting them on which fucking series it was!

have a muggaccino of harden-the-fuck-up.

Sorry about that. Got carried away a bit. If you've ever seen Ronnie Johns do his impression of Chopper Reid you'll know what I mean. I was kind of going a bit 'Chopper' about it.

Given Ronnie Johns is an Australian comedian doing an impersonation of our most notorious criminal most yanks won't know what I'm talking about. Actually, go to you tube and look it up, absolute pisser, eespecially the driving instruction sketch.

Brothers, does anybody recall that Maiden covered Thin Lizzy's Angel of Death? I think that they covered some Tull and some ZZ Top too. I have been waiting 4 years or so to hear another Maiden cover of Thin Lizzy. Was that shit ever released???

Don't worry. Maiden will be around for more than just 15 albums... Maiden still have "it" and they know that they are far more than the sum of its parts.

I've heard their cover of "Hocus Pocus" by Focus, & it like most things Maiden does indeed KICK ASS!!!!

I'm trying to throw you a bone here, please don't crank up the "my country is better than yours" volume.

There's fat people in Portugal too, and there's assholes in both America and Portugal.

The fact is, besides Ronaldo, you have contributed nothing to 20th or 21st century culture besides a financial catastrophe that if propogated by the United States, Germany, or the United Kingdom would suck the world down into the worst depression the planet has ever seen. Fortunately, the rest of the civilized world will recover from our recession while your entire government will stand by waiting for a bailout from the EU. The new pigs of the financial hall of shame (PIGS)= Portugal, Italy, Greece, and Spain.

Please come back with a rebuttal featuring American financial largesse, and I'll remind you that if every American worked just one day per week we would have a higher economic output than your country.

That's not all, but part of the reason why we get Dream Theater and Iron Maiden, and you get to post "hater" comments on Blabbs.

I like your wine, and I'll leave it at that.

That's why the entire world loves you isn't?
I never said my country is better than yours, maybe you could try reading that again?
You started with the "Portugal is half of Florida" idiocy, and i just went along with it.
Youd should probably try to get your facts straight, before starting babbling about politics in a music forum (politics by the way that you don't have ANY clue about! Look who's talking about BAILOUTS!! man..please, get a clue)
Copy and paste from wikipedia or having the word "engineer" in you hotmail adress does not make you smart you know..)

Showing that the only thing you know about Portugal is football (soccer to you, with the foot impairment) and wine, does say a lot about the oblivion and self absorbing life you have.

I , on the contrary, know a lot about the rest of the world..hell, i can even speak you language, see?

Keep your bone to yourself, and unlike you, I don't mind travelling to see a concert abroad. This way I can get aquainted with different people and cultures and not make a fool of myself pretending that i know something that I don't have a first clue about it.

Have a glass of wine and go outside take a breather.

To the guy who was whining about no Philly show, get in the car and go to PNC it is only 60 miles away (maybe 1 - 1.5 hrs drive) WOW!!

second time I saw Maiden was on Ed Hunter tour (first with Bruce!) I was living in Germany and traveled from south of Munich to Hamburg a distance of nearly 400 miles

seen maiden many times since in NYC/NJ/ Philly. Met fans who have traveled from places like Chicago, Toronto, London and Berlin just to see them. To me the 2+ hrs they give us, the fans total enjoyment....it is well worth every penny......and NO I am not rich by any means........so start saving now you whiners!

Looking forward to the new album , don't care too much about the title....they finally have a title without the word "death" in it! Hope it kills though!

see you at PNC and MSG shows!!!

MAIDEN RULES THE WORLD ! ! !

It's true to stereotype Americans as poorly travelled, and you'd have no way to know this, but I am not one of them. I've banged my head on 4 different continents and I've even been to your country too. You're great at guessing sources- I don't know the landmass area or the GDP of Portugal off the top of my head but I do know where to find a quality answer quickly.

You rolled out the "fat" topic, so instead of trying to fight it (I know you're right about that) it's easier to bring up the government of Portugal's epic financial mismanagement. Yes, the United States injected bailouts worth many times the total financial output of Portugal, but up to 70% of it has already been paid back and the other important fact is that the Treasury Department was able to raise every bit of that money through bond offerings. Yours will have to wait for the EU to bear your burden. Austerity will be the order of the day until then- a far worse place than our own mess!

I don't mean to apologize for my government, because especially in Congress, we watch them as if watching a circus of clowns & freaks, but on the whole we're prosperous enough to overcome the stupidity of our politicians.

I did actually have a glass of port yesterday, but it was California port that's almost as good as the original and 1/3 of the cost. Some California wines are the best in type anywhere on earth. I just really happen to like port and I don't care what anybody else says about it.

Soccer and football are interchangable terms here too, soccer just requires an "English football" explaination. "Soccer" is just a nickname for "association football" just the same way that football is a nickname for the same. We have our own game as you know which is actually a variation of rugby called football, but that's much too brutal of a game for more fragile Europeans.

I prefer to follow English Premier League football over La Liga or whatever Portugal has. I am a Chelsea FC supporter so I was glad when Ronaldo moved on- he's an incredible player and did a lot of damage for ManU.

Really, arguing stereotypes is ridiculous here because since you're a metalhead you probably don't have the traits of southern Europeans that make it so easy to make fun of them for. That's a stereotype-for-stereotype, but you've held enough ground here already to be beyond the average.

So here's my olive branch: just move to Chicago, Los Angeles, or New York City then you'd have no need to travel to see great shows, and you'd live in a better country.
