Pretty good list, with two exceptions:

1. Mike Patton in the all-time Top 10? He's good, but not that good!
2. Serj Tankian -- I wouldn't put him in the Top 500, and he is supposedly better than Axl and Lemmy??? HA!!!

Surely Halford would have to be number 1? I mean he has more power and more range than both Dickinson and Dio?

And where is Ripper and Devin?

MAIDEN is top Metal band ever, though not sure Bruce is a top 3 singer. Dio in 2nd is just about the only thing fine, but no Michael Olivieri (Leatherwolf) in top 5 or the list: List INVALID!

WTF is Hetfield doing on there? Dave Mustaine is a much better vocalist and he's not even on there! Serj Tankian sucks, Cory Taylor blows...what makes him better than any other hardcore metal vocalist?

Anyway, top 3 are right on.

Interesting that you prefer Mustaine's vocals. I've never cared for his vocals. Actually, that's the main reason I cannot listen to Megadeth. It's odd that you'd ask why Hetfield is on the list. He's gonna make every list simply because of Metallica's overwhelming historical relevance.

Nice to see Patton get recognition from someone (who isn't a fan). Do the bands the singers come from influence this list? Is it popularity being evaluated here or talent?

1. There is no way for there to be any list that will even come close to pleasing everyone, except for the person compiling said list.
2. Not having Russell Allen in the top 30 is crazy, but I didn't make the list.

Historical relevance aside, I just don't think he's that good of a singer. I actually think he sounded better in the 90's, you heard a totally different side of his voice that you never heard before. I just love Mustaine because nobody else sounds like him, plus he's playing all those crazy guitar riffs and singing at the same time.

When I think of great thrash metal vocalists - Mustaine, Chuck Billy, and Joey Belladonna are guys that I would put over Hetfield. Even Tom Araya, have you heard that scream at the beginning of Angel of Death, MAN!

Hetfield had THE VOICE back in the late 80's and early 90's... too bad it's destroyed by now. Nevertheless, he deserves to be on that list, which I find good, not 100% accurate but good.

Even now, though not anywhere near his best, Hetfield's voice is much, much better than Mustaine's.

Yea, I hear you. The guys you mention are, without a doubt, great thrash vocalists, regardless of my personal tastes. Hetfield 80s versus 90s are two very different styles. I liked him in the 90s too. He had such force and power, or maybe passion powering his vocals. I can't believe Tom Araya didn't make the list. That's insane. His Angel of Death scream alone puts him on the list in my book.

Dickinson belongs on top because he's the better singer of the top three. He's taken care of his voice and it sounds just as good as it ever did.

Otherwise my only real changes would have been to knock Ozzy out of the top five, and add Gillan and Tate to the top ten. And get that Paul Di'Anno out of there. Guy can't even sing anymore.

i have had numerous, heated and drunken debates about who is better bruce or ron... ive always gone with bruce just for how much bigger maiden is and how much more i like them over anything else dio has done. both are amazing vocalist but bruce has more rnage and power, dare i say a more traditionaly metal voice where as ronnie has always sounded to me like a classic or standard singer with a metal band backing him and lyrics about fucking hairy trolls and 3 titted demons from the 2nd circle.

but when it comes right down to it, no pun intended, i think anselmo is hands down the best metal vocalist, of all time. if for other reason that just being astounded by his range... to know that one preson sung the vocals on.. Pantera's hollow, planet caravan and sandlasted skin, then add to that any of downs ballads, like "where im going" or "jail" or any of their catalogue really.. then to follow that up with superjoint and songs like everyone hates everyone and haunted hated... thats shit just blows the mind how one set of pipes can do all that...

aight, im done being a fanboy for now...

...but it is very 'old school'.

There are many, many young talented performers voices in metal who perhaps deserve to be mentioned, but because they haven't proven themselves in a huge band or had the longevity, they didn't make the cut.

Glad to see Jorn on the list.
Glad to see Blackie on the list (even though #10 seems high)

Some good honourable mentions in the comments...Allen, Khan, Owens, Dane, Heiman,

a few more young gods perhaps....

Patrik J. (Wuthering Heights, Space Odyessy)

Jens C (Persuader)

Torben A. (ex-Anubis Gate)

Andy F. (Brainstorm)

a few more veterans (for what it's worth)

Marc Storace (can sing when he has too!)
Lizzy Borden
Ron Keel
Mike Howe

I more or less agree with the top 2. I liked that Mike Patton was appropriately high.

I think that Chuck Billy is more capable than anyone from 21-30. He should have been on there.

I'd put Tony Iommi higher than Ozzy. As a singer.

Missing:
Chuck Billy
Messiah Marcolin
JB (Grand Magus)
Phil Mogg
John Bush
Daniel Heiman

Missing female: Johanna De Pierre (ex-Amaran)

RJD & Rob H should top this list. Althouh I understand why Bruce is there too.

This list is really more about popularity than actual ability. Which explains why Ozzy is #4 and Hetfield is #5, and I would put Geoff Tate and Paul Dianno over both of them.

Halford HAD a very good higher register, but he's since lost it and sounds like utter shit. Bruce still sounds good using his mid register despite not being able to go quite as high as he used to.

No question about it Ronnie James Dio should be all alone at #1. Also Warrel Dane and Robert Lowe should be on the list.

To all that say Hetfield is a better vocalist than Mustaine... I respectfully disagree... Hetfield tends to sound like too much of a douche in his vocal delivery for me to ever really fully enjoy it. Mustaine sounds a hell of a lot more honest with his delivery, and the general tone of his voice doesn't scratch away at my ears like nails on a chalkboard like Hetfield's tends to.

Halford (duh!) & Dio are the two best metal singers of all time. Halford being number 1 of course.

Agree on the 3 first ones for sure. The favourite rest of the list? These ones: of course my subjective opinion.

4. Eric Adams.
5. Klaus Meine. His voice is still in top form.
6. Bon Scott. His charisma and evil smile will be unequalled.
7. Jeff Keith from Tesla. I am amazed he is not on the above list.
8. King Diamond. The atmospheres he creates are astounding.
9. Udo Dirkschneider. The voice of Accept.
10. Michael Kiske.
11. Hetfield. I won´t forgive the 90´s albums and the one of 2003.

Tha´t´s all folks.

Pavarotti said Rob Halford was the most amazing singer he's EVER heard. No doubt he's not what he's used to be, but he's still excellent. It's amazing that the top three haven't turned their vocal chords into hamburger by now.

anyone who thinks Dickinson is a better singer than Halford clearly has never heard the Sad Wings of Destiny album.
