IRON MAIDEN: 'Flight 666' To Be Released On Blu-Ray, DVD - Apr. 15, 2009
"Iron Maiden: Flight 666", the feature-length documentary film which follows the IRON MAIDEN bandmembers on the first leg of their "Somewhere Back In Time World Tour" in February and March of 2008, will be released on extended Blu-ray and DVD formats, alongside a double-CD soundtrack album and limited edition double-vinyl picture disc. It will be available Monday, May 25 on EMI Records in Europe, and Tuesday, June 9 on EMI Records Canada and UMe in the USA.

For "Iron Maiden: Flight 666", IRON MAIDEN was accompanied everywhere by award-winning documentary makers Banger Productions from Toronto in Canada, who have received international critical acclaim for their previous movies "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" and recently "Global Metal". Producer/presenter Sam Dunn and his team bring an intimate, behind-the-scenes view of this remarkable journey, with a close look at the logistics involved and following Team Maiden in the cockpit, on the plane and on and offstage, getting to the heart of this global adventure of a band that has very rarely even let cameras backstage before.

Shot in high definition and with superb 5.1 surround sound, mixed by the band's producer Kevin "Caveman" Shirley, "Flight 666" brings to the screen all the drama, excitement and hysteria that followed the band around the world every time Ed Force One (the band's plane) touched down in a new country. The film documents the intensity of the punishing show schedules, the struggle with the time zones, the pressures of ensuring that every performance matched the energy of the many thousands of ecstatic and expectant fans from many cultural backgrounds, unusual angles from the spectacular shows... and, of course, the fun had on the way!

A special international "Iron Maiden Day" is being planned for April 21 with simultaneous showings of "Iron Maiden: Flight 666" in selected digital cinemas around the world.

As a very special bonus for the fans, MAIDEN has included a second disc of the entire set from the 2008 segment of this tour with the DVD (and as a long-play Blu-ray). Sixteen songs from sixteen different cities in eleven countries around the world, for the first time ever encompassing such varied places and cultures in one concert. (See full track listing below). In addition to a standard double DVD, EMI will release a special souvenir limited-edition deluxe DVD with 30-page booklet. The soundtrack audio version of the live show will be available on two CDs, as a limited-edition vinyl set with two picture discs, and a digital download especially for those fans who do not have DVD access or just want to enjoy the show as a great live album. All are lavishly packaged as an ultimate memento of a tour to remember!

To recognize the global phenomenon of MAIDEN, the Blu-ray/DVD are also subtitled in Hindi, Japanese, Dutch, German, Spanish, Brazilian, French, Italian, Portuguese and Swedish.

Comments band manager Rod Smallwood; "It's been a mammoth undertaking. From the first twinkle in Bruce's eye it's taken about three years to put band, crew and equipment in a giant flying 'splitter bus', to go through all the long and tiresome prep and safety regulations and planning, to the actual filming and of the tour itself, through to post production and right up to putting together all these items in the very best quality possible for our fans."

"It's great that with Maiden Day on Tuesday April 21, we can give our fans the opportunity of seeing this digitally on big screen in Hi Def with the full-on 5.1 sound experience with other fans around them. It was also very rewarding that it has won the prestigious SXSW Film Festival Award for Best Music Documentary.

"The 'Somewhere Back in Time Tour' reached almost 2 million fans in 39 countries and, if there is one thing l know from managing MAIDEN all these years, it's that our fans are not happy to wait too long, so we are delighted that EMI (Ume USA) are rush-releasing the DVD. This closes the chapter on an absolutely brilliant experience delving into the past for the band, myself and my team, the crew and hopefully all of you fans out there. After the summer and some deserved time off, we will concentrate on the 'new,' with the band starting to put together material for a brand new studio album due sometime later in 2010. And, of course, after that we will look forward to seeing all our fans again!!"

The film "Flight 666" is being released in the following manner:

* Long-play Blu-ray with "Flight 666: The Film" and "Flight 666: The Concert" (215 minutes)

* Double DVD

- Disc One: "Flight 666: The Film" (112 minutes)
- Disc Two: "Flight 666: The Concert" (104 minutes)

* Plus limited-edition deluxe double DVD of the above with special packaging and 30-page booklet

* "Flight 666: The Original Soundtrack" album - Double CD*

* "Flight 666: The Original Soundtrack" album - Limited Edition Double Vinyl Picture Disc

I am looking forward to this so much, and as I have said before, I really think the live footage is not going to be watchable. I cant stand 1,000 different camera shots going on within each song. It's like "Damn, Dave is playing a solo, why the hell are the so called professionally filmed studio going to show Nicko for 2 seconds, then back to the crowd for 1 second, then show Steve, then show Bruce, then get a quick glimpse of Dave soloing for 1 second, then back to the crowd for 1 second, then back to Nicko for 1 second, and then show Adrian for 1 second. Then the next song is performed and the whole prcoess starts again."

This is fucking awesome.

It's very cool that I was at the show in Jersey last year where 'Rime...Mariner' was recorded for this album.

People have been complaining about the predictability of Maiden's setlists for YEARS, and nothing ever really changes. Steve is simply too stubborn and set in his ways, and won't change for anyone.

Metallica and Maiden are the two undisputed two biggest metal bands on Earth right now...Metallica has the clear popularity edge in the U.S., while the demand for Maiden internationally is simply unparalleled.

...for the double live CD part, because I'm not sure I have live versions of those songs in my collection.

Still, the DVD part will be amazing...I'm going to look for myself in the Number of the Beast segment. Best concert ever...

there with Maiden....Metallica are in a league all by themselves.
Priest are certainly just as international as Maiden and bigger here in the USA. I can't wait for their 'British Steel' tour to begin this summer.

Priest rules

ha ha, good one. Seriously, you want to sell more copies, indeed put a bonus disc of Lauren on it, but she has to have no clothes on and no audio track.

Up the IRONs forever. I will of course buy this release, with or without nude Lauren - it's MAIDEN and that's all that needs to be said.

Sorry dupe...I love Priest, but they're nowhere near as popular as Maiden.

They do comparable business to Maiden in the States, but that's about it. Priest always tried to cultivate more of a U.S. audience than Maiden going back to the '80s, and it paid off.

No way in hell could Priest sell out 80,000-seat soccer stadiums in Scandinavia and South America.

Plus Maiden have sold over 60 million albums to Priest's 20 million.

Not bashing Priest by any stretch...they're legends and I love them, but Maiden leave them in the dust commercially.

Gimme a fuckin' break.

I'm gonna buy the 2-CD set and the 2-DVD limited edition.

$35-40...big deal.

I love Iron Maiden...saw 'em twice last year, two of the best shows I've ever seen. I'm going to really enjoy being able to re-live those concerts by watching the DVD and listening to the CDs.

Maiden are still a first-rate live band with great chops, who record new material regularly, PLAY a lot of the new material live, and who don't scalp their fans with exorbitant ticket prices.

Unlike, say, hmm...Kiss?

Greed? Hardly. Just a well-loved band who deserves their success.

Sorry Aces_High99...but stating who is more popular means absolutley nothing. If you want to go that route with album sales, then ask yourself this question. How many albums have Michael Jackson sold, or how many stadiums he can fill? Now ask yourself who is better? Iron Maiden or Michael Jackson? Even asking that question is laughable. I respect Maiden, but think Judas Priest are a way better band, but again it is personal taste, like apples and oranges.

I was simply talking about commercial success with respect to METAL bands.

Going strictly by the data available (album sales, concert attendance), the two most popular metal bands on the planet right now are:

1. Metallica
2. Maiden

That's all there is to it. I'm not saying that makes Metallica the better band artistically.

I happen to prefer Maiden to Priest, but both are better (again, in my opinion) than Metallica.

Artistry and commercial success are two different things. Why are you trying to say that I claimed something that I obviously didn't?

Its cool man. Its just that you stated that there nowhere near as popular. Breaking the Law is played on contempory rock stations all the time. From my experience that song is more well known throughout the entire Music Industry as a whole compared to any Maiden song. I mean what would you say is more popular? Run to the Hills? Also, Rob Halford is more of a household name than Bruce Dickenson. So I tend to disagree with them being nowhere near as popular. Again, its cool. I think the ultimate bill would be Priest and Maiden. Although, just like during the 80's Maiden would be the opener.

I don't agree that Halford is more a household name than Dickinson, neither one of them is a household name but I can tell you Dickinson is a pilot, fencer, radio host, writer just to name a few things other than being a singer.......what else does Halford do?? Not much I think. Like you said both bands are like apples and oranges. I, like Aces_High99 like both bands a lot, but I prefer Maiden.

You can talk popularity and say Priest is more "popular" than Maiden here in the States, which for the most part may be true, but I think that the reason the fans like Maiden so much is because they are not playing on radio like every other fucking band, Priest, Def Leppard, AC/DC, Van Halen, always got the radio play here in US so I could call them all more "popular" than Maiden ok, but like you said popular could also mean I like Michael Jackson or Madonna more than I like Maiden (!) point is that you saying priest is more popolar doesn't mean dirt buddy.....the fans like Maiden because they have never compomised the integrity of the music (like 'Tallica) or changed styles dramatically. Priest had their Turbo Lover

bands like Maiden do what they want and the fans love them for it If they want to play a 13+ min. song they do it. It You may be right by saying Priest is bigger in US than Maiden, but for the rest of the world they don't have a chance. When was the last time Priest was in places like Australia, India, Central America?
waey wanty, Maiden sure as e fanshell would nolast time t be opening for Priest like in the '80's, tha
